The OP made the implication that this is how you're supposed to protest while respecting our anthem, and that commenter combatted that by saying if black people choose to kneel & NOT participate in the anthem, then it's their right to do that. Nobody, including the OP, should be policing which type of protesting is acceptable or congratulatory. The premise itself (kneeling during an anthem) is not "disrespectful". The fact that OP implies this premise was the context clue (or should I say, dog whistle) of what they were actually trying to say. A kneeling sports player has just as valid method of protesting as these girls wearing t-shirts. Let's not play stupid here.

@@jamesduda6017 Lift Every Voice and Sing has been a staple of the black community since the early 20th century. It is so much a part of Black culture that it has been dubbed as the Black National Anthem. The better question is why do Blacks feel like National Anthem does not represent them?

Redlining very much happened and very much has lasting implications. St. Louis for example you can clearly see where the line happened. Schools are suffering, the housing, and people's health just to name a few. Two zip codes that are right next to each other have a 17 year difference in life expectancy which boils down to redlining and the distrust of hospital systems. Even though slavery was years ago there are still lasting implications still to this day. Do not forget that I carry the last name of the people who owned my ancestors. The majority of people who say BLM are not even affiliated with the organization.
