Jsu’s victory lap is simply a call out tbh. Alcorns is a full arrangement. Jsu’s version is cleaner, but alcorns version is funky af and overall i can hear EVERY section from them. Imo it depends on your preference, and i like that funky shit, so i think alcorns is better.
Alcorn added some soul and groove into their arrangement. JSU just went strictly with power. Man, Alcorn won this because they embodied the overall essence of what you want in this song. POWER & SOUL!

Alcorn took the time to arrange the song and not just a lil excerpt like everyone else. For me the “wow” factor was the cleanliness/balance of the arrangement and then the tubas to bring it home at the end. Also, I never discredited JSU sound. So, I’m not sure why that assumption was made. My PERSONAL opinion is Alcorn has the better arrangement. 🤷🏽♂️
When honoring/paying tribute to an artist, it’s best to keep it as original as possible. Too much funk in my opinion from Alcorn although it’s a full ensemble. JSU’s call out is loud, crispy, and sounds just like the original.
