When I was little I didn't realize how horrible & out of place Loretta's dancing is lol.
Basically she's like a pair of jingling keys.
Aw come on guys give it a break. Besides, this was back in "2004". So it WAS awesome at that time. But even watching this now, all I can think of is reminiscing on a great part of a childhood memory!!! And honestly I'll take this over today's BS ANYTIME!!! DAMN I MISS THOSE DAYS!!!

I think once hsm brought in so much money and success, they wanted everything to be that great, and they just failed

They were really good. Good acting, writing, music. You could actually feel touched by some of the lessons like in this movie. I can barely watch disney channel now without cringing 5 minutes after I turn it off.

when I look back at these old DCOM clips on youtube, I feel sad because I am no longer a child and I can only go back to these moments in my head. and I'm feeling the bitter realization that life will never be as good as it was.

This movie had one of the best lines, that quote hit me like a brick:

I like how this movie reflected upon issues with the music industry. It showed how people cared more about their image than their sound. Also-- it gave a character to relate to. (One that liked Avril Lavigne.)
For Disney being such a machine that it is, their movies really capture certain realities of the world
I always thought it was more about the philosophical question of what it really means to be human: what distinguishes us not only from animals, but from artificial intelligence as well, like Blade Runner or something. For example, near the end of the movie, Loretta says she envies Sam because Sam is the dreamer, but Loretta will always just be the dream. Also, notice how Loretta becomes more self-aware as the movies go on. At the beginning, it seems she's completely controlled by Roscoe, almost, but at the end she's thinking on her own...almost like...a human?!
notrllyedgy theres also a feminist lens where one might observe how the male lead represents a more general male population when he uses loretta as a physical (literal) projection of his fantasy woman, to counteract the female lead and how she challenges his wants with her own opinions. Although not perfect, seeing as it was a movie meant for kids/teens, the movie does kind of introduce an idea of unrealistic standards for women

To me it was a comforting message about how making mistakes and getting through struggles and obstacles are what makes life more vibrant and beautiful. If some ppl want to see it as unrealistic expectations set for women you can, but that really isn’t how I see it. This can apply to anyone who has a dream that seems unreachable
even as a kid i remember thinking how her dancing was just too weird and random and her singing voice was clearly not really hers....i still think that now lol haha love this movie though !

Or her voice was pre recorded, like it was done in the movie, and even in the movie, her character was lip synching.
Well, technically the actor was lip syncing, but the character was not apparently since it was a "live" show so she would have been singing live. Of course we know that's not the case but who cares.
You need to learn how vocal synthesizers work even if really, this is real and not artificial

God I remember watching this the first time it aired on Disney and being amazed by this performance. Looking at it now, FIFTEEN YEARS later, honestly from a technical standpoint, the performance is awkward; her lips don't match the lyrics being sung, the dance movements are strange at times and don't really match the song itself. But this is adult me talking. Back when I first watched it, this was a holographic girl who could sing and dance and it was magical.This was a movie made for kids and to our young eyes, it was great and that's what mattered. The nostalgic feeling just overpowered all the flaws of this song.

I happen to be 46 yrs old with two young children who absolutely adore all those old disney movies like Pixel Perfect. I have a library of these movies that my kids watch over and over and they learn from them. Not too late for anyone to lern, either!
