I think if there's any other rock band that can truly pull off this kind of shrieking gutteral voice on lead vocals, it's Our Lady Peace. A band with a name that sounds religious but is also very unafraid of controversial lyrics. Try the song called Clumsy if you haven't already.
Melancholy and The Infinite Sadness was BY FAR the best $23.99 I’ve ever spent on an album. I wore out both CDs in my 3 second skip protection Walkman.
Leaving out this song... my fave songs by the Smashing Pumpkins: 1) Siva ... 2) Zero ... 3) Today ... 4) The everlasting gaze ... 5) Quiet. Other songs - '1979' ... 'Love' ... 'Cherub rock' ... 'Rocket' ... 'I am one'
"Whiney voice." At 70 yrs old now, I felt the same way about Neil Young's voice...but grew to love his music. When Billy came along, i went through the same process and have loved his stuff for years. Glad you liked this one.
It's funny I'm in late 40s and still can't handle Neil Young's voice lol. Pumpkins is definitely a unique voice and when I first heard on radio in 90s I didn't like it. Roommate in college had the album and I started really listening.. definitely enjoyed then. I've heard Neil Young plenty enough I still can't get past the voice:)
I do not care for Neil Youngs voice similar to my thoughts on Billy Cogan's voice but they both have some songs that i love. I can listen to Needle and the Damage Done over and over. I can say the same about Drown by the Pumpkins. Something about those songs just speak to me.
Heh...That was the first thing I thought of: "That's what they all said about Neil"...These Pumpkins songs depend on the character of his voice. If you had a more conventional voice singing these, even a more conventional hard rock voice, it just wouldn't be the same. The way he sings and the way his voice sound are essential, something I always said about Ozzy in Black Sabbath. If you can't get past his voice, you just aren't going to like this band...
Top 5 Pumpkin songs that you haven’t reacted to. Definitely not in any order. 1. Hummer 2. Rocket 3. Drown 4. Starla 5. Disarm Honorable mentions Daydream Rhinoceros Landslide (Fleetwood Mac cover. It’s beautiful) Tonight tonight I Am One
One my favorite songs of the Smashing Pumpkins. It is a great rage song when I have a bad day to scream with Billy Corgan. Typically you are correct, I normally also wouldn't like his voice. But Billy Corgan makes it works in this song and other songs. Also wonderful Jack Skellington cup. Also Billy Corgan writes all the music. 1) Disarm 2) 1979 3) Bullet with Butterfly 4) Today 5) Stand inside your Love 6) Tonight Tonight
Jimmy Chamberlin is one the best drummers of the 90's Bar none. 1. Hummer (Put on your leather jacket and Levi 501s, you're 22 in 1995!) 2. Silverfu_k/Sweet Sweet -They kinda go together well. 3. Soma 4. Jellybelly or Here is No Why (sorry I just can't decide.) 5. By Starlight But everyones gonna just say Tonight Tonight so might as well get it out of the way, lol.
I love By Starlight so much. I had to list 7 songs on my list, and I couldn't even list a song like By Starlight that I would've loved to have put on there.
Mayonnaise is one of my favorite Smashing Pumpkin songs. Try Rotten Apples and To Forgive too. They have so many awesome heavy songs, mellow songs and everything in between. They are truly their own genre and so unbelievably original and authentic.
I agree with these. I love the mellow ones slightly more than the harder ones. mayonaise, try try try, perfect, drown, 1979. BUT To Forgive hold a vey very special place. I know i prefer mellow with accompanied strings (violin, cello etc.) when they fuse together greatly.
@@eddyeffendy_ lol, im just sayin. Sometimes the comments seem like ppl just copy what they see so the same songs are always brought up. Ftr i love mayonaise its a beautiful song. Really just said that because im pretty sure ppl just copy what they see.
I don't know any Smashing Pumpkins songs except for "Disarm" which I absolutely love I certainly need to search out some more of their songs. That Billy Corgen is amazing. His vocal talents really showed out on this one...
Thank you, I LOVE me some Pumpkins!!! You've reacted to many of my favorites already. Some other favorites to check out: 1. Today 2. Disarm 3. Zero 4. Drown (such a great riff!)
Jimmy Chamberlin was one of the 90's best drummers, he was a jazz drummer with impeccable technique before joining the Pumpkins. And from memory this is the last video where Billy had hair.
I’ve always been a fan of smashing pumpkins. When it’s not a crying voice so to speak. I’ve seen them live several times and never left disappointed. This song for one was a magnet for me. The riffs, the drums, the guitar it’s amazing.
Darcy (1 of the early bassists) is from the same region of Michigan that I live in. I also heard some of "Siamese dream" was recorded around this same region as well.🤘🧐
The singer is awesome. He made the band and constantly had to deal with his bandmates bullshit. 😂 He even recorded everything for their first two albums because studio time costs money and he was the only one that could record in one take. Basically he gets demonized for not being a peoole pleaser. Also his social skills aren't the best. He's a lot better these day though. He's had a lot of therapy. One of my favorite bands.

I remember when this song came out, people changed the lyrics to "Despite all my rage I'm still just a BRAT in a cage" because the Smashing Pumpkins at that point weren't "cool" anymore according to the haters and Billy's reputation tainted the band so they say. I started listening to them in 1991 when they released their first LP named GISH. Saw them the first time open for the Red Hot Chili peppers in 1993. Amazing show.
I would agree with those who prefer their album Gish, (since that's what drew me to them to begin with) "I am one," "Bury Me," "Siva," or "Rhinoceros"...next perhaps.
My Top 5 Songs that I think you would really love (that you haven't heard already) by the Smashing Pumpkins: Soma, Siva, Snail, Rhinoceros, An Ode To No One. All absolutely amazing songs!!
Thirty-Three, Soma, Zero, Through the eyes of Ruby, For Martha These are in no particular order and tied with about 20 others for the top spot of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs
