    Hi, sorry to ask this kind of "stupid" question, but I'm a beginner bass player, and I'm learning this song tonight. Can someone explain to me what the "X" on the tablature means?

      And it's also kinda hard for me to do the "3(3)2" part. Do you have a secret technique?

      Hey Charlie, no such thing as a stupid question, we were all beginners at some point 😊
      The 'X' means whats called a Ghost Note or Dead Note. Basically instead of pushing the string all the way down to the fretboard, you want to just put your fingers on the string firmly but without pressing, then pluck like usual. With a bit of practice this will give a percussive sound (you can hear it in the video) and it's just a way of adding a different sound to the rhythem. They take a bit of practice to sound right (and they work much better with certain amp settings or effects) but they are fun once you get the hang of them!

      No secret I'm afraid, just practicing them once again! That 3 to 2 bit is called a Hammer-On, you play the 3 like normally then the press your finger firmly into the fretboard on the 2 without plucking the string. Once you've got it down correctly it gives a nice sound a bit like sliding to the note but more instant. No secret, it just takes practicing hammer-ons a lot, I remember in my beginner days doing them and not getting the correct sound for ages, but with practice you just get use to knowing how you need to hit them 😊

    sorry, beginner question, but on some tabs for this song it shows 3p2, what's the p mean?

    • @Brocharlie
      @Brocharlie Місяць тому

      It stands for "pull off". It's like a slide, but instead of sliding up and your finger staying there, you pull your finger off, plucking the string with your left hand (that is to say, not your strumming hand)
