  • Iconic ska pioneers the Skatalites hit the stage of the Nectar Lounge for a night of rhythm, horns, keys and a whole lotta dancing long overdue in Seattle. In this live set they nailed 'Confucius', a hypnotic tune which appears on the album Ball Of Fire. The band's other jams such as 'Latin Goes Ska', 'Freedom Sounds', 'Fidel Castro' and 'Music is my Occupation' have been looping in my head for an eternity-- and I know I'm not the only one!
Simple and full of life, jazzy and complex, there is a unique mystique to the music of the Skatalites seldom found in reggae music today. Driving the big Jamaican beat, It was a delight to see the legendary group perform live at such an intimate venue. There is an unlisted video "A (Shorter) Message to You Rudy" featuring Lynval Golding that can be watched at • Video
