I recently added PAX East and had the pleasure to not only meet a bunch of you, but do a little shopping while I was there. The pickings were fantastic, so I'm pumped to show you all what is my personal favorite game haul I've got in a long while.

They are amazing games. And they are, in fact, made by another familiar company, not known for their RPGs somewhat.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is one of my favorite games from that era! If you like mythical weird WWII you'll love it Matty. Also the PS2 and Xbox variants of that game each have a few levels specific to each port so keep an eye out for the PS2 version for your collection if you don't already have it 😁
Summoner was a great game. It's stuck with me to the point that I still think about it regularly. The music still randomly pops into my head. It was made by Volition.
Summoner was the only game i was able to get with my PS2 on launch day since every other game was sold out by the time i got there, needless to say i played the hell out of it. Some of my best PS2 memories.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was a great game. The MP on Xbox live was great with a class system and the campaign was fun as it is two player co-op. I remember beating it with my cousin I lived with at the time!

There is a ww2 jrpg Xbox 360 exclusive called operation darkness. Kinda pricey but worth checking out. Made by atlus too
More of a strategy rpg. Should have mentioned that. Kind of a hard game but the world building is cool. It’s ww2 with vampires and zombies with atlus jrpg

Good haul man! Return to Castle Wolfenstein has a special place in my heart. When I was a young teen I would go over to my Uncles to play it online and had an absolute blast with it.
I loved master blaster as a kid on the NES. I even read the novel. It was good also, lol. I had no idea there were sequels. I'll have to check those out

I hope you find and do a review of Freedom Fighters. My stepbrother had an OG Xbox. I beat Freedom Fighters there. It was a cool game. Good story for the time. I loved how you could command individual soldiers under you. I would set up traps for my brothers in capture the flag.
Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil was actually a expansion to the original game. They ported it to Xbox because they also ported the original game and to beef up the package, they included the classic Doom games. In fact, the collector's edition for the Doom 3 Xbox port also had the classic Doom games included.
Yeah and right at the beginning of the game/expansion they introduce a new gun which is essentially the gravity gun from Half-Life 2. HL2 released around the same time as Doom 3. They must have been inspired. RoE throws you right into the action. You would not want to play it before playing Doom 3.
Dang I missed ya at PAX! I picked up Night In The Woods and Arzette from LRG and then I grabbed the physical Castle Crashers from behemoth. I told myself I’d only buy retro if I found a few very specific games I was looking for but no dice there. I was really excited for the VGNY booth since I’ve been to that store a few times and it’s incredible but I was shocked at how many games they had that I had never heard of.
Return to castle wolfenstien is so weird in a good way I remember being completely addicted to playing that game on the og Xbox

Return to wolfenstein.....ah the memories. If I recall you can unlock wolfenstein 3d beating the campaign. Double win
I remember playing Summoner 2 as a kid but I had no idea what I was doing. There was a quest where you gotta find parts to put someone together and I just ran around making no progress
Building up that good old collection is fun doing when you don't have much duds
I own Bard's Tale for PS2. It has a slow start which I know put some people off the game. but if you just stick with it, it gets better and more fun and interesting after the "Tutorial" village. I played it for the first time last year and had a blast:D

Just curious, roughly how many independent retro stores were at PAX East? Pre pandemic the number was always 1-3; I wonder if fewer publishers & a smaller WOTC presence led to a larger amount of stores selling?
Also PAX West 2019 the only retro store at that convention was Pink Gorilla, but they have a stranglehold on the retro game scene in Seattle.
You should play the Summoner games and make a video. Both are great but for different reasons. 1st can take a while to get used to and is a little bland visually but story is fantastic. 2nd is more colourful and sharper. Both have humorous parts as well.

I loved project sylpheed as a kid. The story was cool the graphics were great for the time and it had a nice progression for upgrades which carried over to new playthroughs so you could be overpowered and change the outcome for certain missions (to a small extent). I was always disappointed that a port never made its way to PC lol
If you like golf games you have to try Golf Story... a very good and funny golf RPG!
I also picked up doom 3 but with the steelbook

Yooo!!! I bought State of Emergency day it came out. I haven't played it since that era. One of those Rockstar games that's missing from storefronts. I liked it more then Manhunt which was same timeframe.

State of Emergency is a fun arcadey type game. They also made a part 2 i believe.
Ya, I never been into buying retro games. But a friend and me found a local game store, we have went there about 3 times and we have spend about $90-$120 each time. lol

I have one problem with Brain Age, the only times I've lost DSs, they had Brain Age in them. I do not want to touch it again.

Hour of Victory was considered one of the worst 360 games, i think it was a launch title too lol budget CoD off of wish
State of Emergency cost me $40 on Xbox for a near mint copy. So $10 is a steal mate . Xbox games are expensive in OZ for some titles now though. I did manage to just get FFXVI new for almost 50 percent off on Amazon though with free delivery .
Summoner is worth it solely for the bonus video on the disc.

The way the industry is going now, I think this might actually be the last gen to support physical. Xbox has all but confirmed it, and Playstation would not mind locking everyone into their overpriced store either. Sad day indeed.
