    Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact, any money you keep in cash or a low interest account declines in value each year. Investing is the only way to make your money grow and unless you have an exceptionally high income, investing is the only way most people will ever have enough money to retire.

      @@Andrew-o9k6h Many people underestimate the importance of having a good advisor, often only realizing their value after being caught up in their own emotions. A couple of summers ago, following my lengthy divorce, I found myself in need of a solid boost to keep my business afloat. That's when I decided to seek out licensed advisors and discovered one with exceptional qualifications. Thanks to her guidance, I’ve seen my reserves grow from $275k to $850k, despite the challenges of inflation.

    One lesson I've learnt from billionaires is to always put your money to work, and diversifying your investments. I'm planning to invest about $200k of my savings in stocks this year, and I hope I make profits.

      You are right. The best approach I feel is to diversify investments- by spreading investments across different asset classes like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown.

    Newbies need to learn the ropes, know how much risk they can handle and diversify their portfolio. Some folks get help from money experts or do their homework before making investment moves. It's all about being smart with your funds.

      That's correct. At first, I wasn't too pleased with my gains compared to my previous performances, I was doing so poorly, I thought I needed to diversify into better assets, so I got in touch with an investment-advisor. I havent done anything to it but now want to explore investing in stocks and shares. But do i open a stocks and shares ISA or invest from this Lifetime ISA. Also how do I decide on what to choose. They have their wealth list but i still dont know the longer term concept. Most say min £100 set up and a £25 monthly dd. Is that the dd i already have set up or would I set up amother one on top. How will i track the value. Will i see it go up or down every month and can sell at any point when i see a profit or do i leave it there for the next 10yrs? Can I just choose companies like Costco, Starbucks etc. Would they be profitable?

    I currently have a Pension, Savings, Bonds and other fiscal diversified stuff which I have been doing for decades.
    What is the best app to use - as I am completely bewildered by the options, and just want to make one that allows me to do a little S&S ISA with my taking a small punt each month.

      Crystal Ball required. Until recently Money Saving "Expert" kept saying that very few people would exceed the £1000 limit. Now you could do it with around £25000. Less than the price of most new cars. Also consider that a train driver doing a few overtime shifts could easily reach the higher tax threshold where the limit drops to £500.

In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life.

(You could put money into a parters isa) for tax purposes. I’d be careful in choosing the advisor, get some recommendations, and always understand the underlying fees of whatever products you by, I’d also suggest as you are a newbie it doesn’t have to be complicated. Or even more experienced investors don’t necessarily advocate complexity, we have lives to lead.

    Had no clue about a LISA and missed the age limit

    • @MPD90
      @MPD90 9 місяців тому

      A LISA is good for saving for your first home. Beyond that, putting more in your pension is usually a better option. Higher rate tax payers are better off contributing the extra to their pension over a LISA, as the tax saving is greater than the government bonus on a LISA. Basic rate tax payers will see the same benefit between contributing to a pension and contributing to a LISA (i.e. to put £5k in the pot you could either put £4k in a LISA and gov grosses up to £5k, or put £5k in a pension and tax saving nets the cost down to £4k, even result either way). So you probably haven't missed much 👍

      @MPD90 9 місяців тому +1

      @@palmtree-e2l Personally I'd disagree. LISA you pay the income tax before you put it in, pension you pay the income tax after you withdraw it. Plus with the pension you'll only pay the tax on 75% of it when you withdraw, due to the 25% tax free amount. Lots more options for how you invest a pension also. But each to their own, neither is a bad option.

    I’m curious as to why you are advising setting up a direct debit when it should be a standing order. DDs are for when a company is claiming money from you and they can choose how much, so are normally used for utility bills etc. When an individual is sending money and wants to control the amount you use a Standing Order.

    • @MeaningfulMoney
      @MeaningfulMoney  9 місяців тому

      While that's true technically, many providers will pull the money by direct debit and may not give you the option. You are covered by the Direct debit guarantee though, and with any modern provider you can log in at any time and change the amount being contributed, so practically, it makes little difference

      @@MeaningfulMoney SOs are far more manageable though, I don’t have anything of this ilk going out by DD. I can change an SO the day before it’s due to debit my account, or even cancel it for a month the day before. DDs by nature of being claimed by the company are far less manageable.

    I'm 55 this year and have a private pension that's only worth £15,000. I have a few thousand in savings and thats it. I work self employed and earn around 40,000 a year. No mortgage I rent but have no major debt. Just the normal vehicle on finance and a credit card. As I'm turning 55 it's worrying I haven't saved more but through bad decisions and life in general I am where I am. Any ideas how I can build up more money over the next ten years ? To make what I have grow and to invest more monthly into something that would help me .

      Worry not - you have time, but you will need to tighten the belt and get laser-focused. This might help:

    A suggestion for the next video "How your money is protected".
    Should that £1 million in the title be split over twelve platforms? How are pensions, which could easily exceed £85000 protected ? Hopefully things have moved on since the days of Robert Maxwell, and Bernie Madoff but what rules do we have to be aware of ?

    Can I transfer from a flexishare account to a stocks and shares isa?

    • @MeaningfulMoney
      @MeaningfulMoney  9 місяців тому +1

      You’d likely have to sell the shares and re-buy them in the ISA. Need to check with Centrica who offer the Flexishare account - they may offer an ISA themselves…

    This is great. Very clearly and concisely explained. But my question would be: why are you only suggesting these two options: stocks and shares ISA or Lifetime ISA. Why not SP 500? Isa s are for people who want to save on tax. Most of us ordinary mortals will not be saving/investing enough to pay tax. Plus Lifetime Isa is only for people up to 40...

    • @markwaudby
      @markwaudby 9 місяців тому +4

      Listen to the video again, the options, once you open an ISA on your chosen platform, then you must choose the fund or funds you want to put your money into, ie in your case the S&P 500. Just make sure the platform you choose has the S&P500 on it as platforms do differ.

    • @Banthah
      @Banthah 9 місяців тому +6

      First of all the S&P 500 is an index which you can invest in through a fund that tracks it. It’s not an alternative to an ISA.
      An ISA is a tax wrapper that gives you the platform to invest in a fund - for example the S&P 500.
      And the reason it’s important is because all capital gains and all income from that fund is tax free, forever. You might not think that’s important now but as your investment grows over time, you would likely pay tax on your investment gains if it’s not in an ISA.
      So why would you not choose an ISA??!

    • @noahcrafting
      @noahcrafting 9 місяців тому +2

      You can buy S&P500 inside your ISA

    • @m1nkeh

      I love paying tax, that’s why I don’t use an ISA said no one ever 🙄
      Simply buy an index fund (S&P500 if you so desire) and put it in your ISA.
