    Great job Calvin. I just came across your channel yesterday. I have a Tracer 900GT. Thanks for these great videos. You provide great detail and instruction and I like how you are very methodical and provide lots of tips. Thanks for all the effort you put into making this available to me and making it easier for me to do my maintenance. Much appreciated. Happy riding From ON CA

    Thanks for posting. Was looking for reference material before I attempt a spark plug change on my 2019 Niken GT. Similar engine, should be similar approach. We’ll see how bad it is to remove the ignition coil packs from the spark plug cylinders.

    Hello, I just bought a 2015 FJ09. I am writing to you from Venezuela. I wanted to know what scanner you recommend me to be able to make the adjustments for the bike. Thank you very much

    Great video. Do you remeber how long time the changing take? From removing all the fairings to reassembly everything.

    • @Calvinm

      It would take about 3-4 hours the first time if I wasn't filming.

    You can completely eliminate the AIS and get it out of the way with an ECU flash. I haven't done it yet, but I am going to when I get into it this winter to change the plugs. It's all currently on there but has been disabled I just need to buy the block off plates.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Рік тому

      Ya I’ve seen people so that mod. I’ve read it makes it easier to tune the bike because a wideband O2 sensor can accurately read the air fuel ratio when they’re blocked. Hope your install goes smoothly!

    Hello Calvin, do you need to empty the tank before disconnecting the fuel hose or is there a check valve that will prevent fuel form flowing? Also, when I did my plugs, the elbow (pipe breather) coming out of the cylinder head cover, was completely loose. In your video it is solidly in place. I didn't see any kind of seal or sealant on the cylinder head cover that would help securing it in place. Is there such a thing ? How is yours secure? Thanking you in advance for any input!

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  2 місяці тому

      @@philippedesormeaux7694 you do not need to empty the tank. Somehow the fuel does not drain out the fuel line. I’m not sure if there is a seal that holds the breather pipe in place, I can’t recall.

    5:42 I see a bloody paper towel. How did you cut yourself? so I don't do the same when I change my plugs this winter.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Рік тому +1

      Wow keen eyes you have. I busted my knuckle while pulling out one of the coil packs. Didn’t notice it till it was already cut. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

    Hey, please can I get your opinion. Got the same bike as yours.
    When I'm accelerating in 2nd or 3rd gear the bike hesitates/bogs/stutters as if it's low on gas. (It even cut out today when I got to the traffic light. Any opinions please

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  3 місяці тому

      Could be spark plugs, a tired fuel pump, or a bad ignition coil. Many things are possible, but try and eliminate one system at a time.

    Hi, does it make sense to replace spark plugs on 2014 FJ-09 with only 6,000 miles on it? Never replaced, but also no issues. I replacred clutch cable using your videos revently, but for spark plugs it seems to be even more work and more hoses abd wires to disconnect. It scares me.

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  5 місяців тому

      If it ain’t broke… I wouldn’t bother. Things like the updated clutch cable can help but spark plugs last. There is no reason to replace them until necessary.

    You should have just kept the FZ6. IMHO. I think its cool to have a bike for a friend to borrow if he needs. It comes in handy.

    Is there no way to get through the radiator?

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Рік тому

      You probably could, I haven’t tried though. I followed the process laid out in the Yamaha service manual. It might seem like a lot but you would have to take off the same plastics to get to the radiator.

    I used a pencil magnet to lower the spark plug down.

    I really wish I knew why my FJ09 was so unhappy at about 3500RPM. There's a mechanical... something... that just gives me the heebie jeebies. It's not smooth at all. Is yours sewing-machine smooth?

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Рік тому

      That’s odd. I don’t notice any weird vibrations around 3500rpm. Mine feels smooth through that range

    There are 3 spark plugs to be changed on this engine, isn’t it?

  • @billslicer3203

    I hesitate to just Drop the plug into the hole. I’m afraid it will hit, and close the gap

    • @Calvinm
      @Calvinm  Рік тому

      If you have a quality spark plug socket you can use that to hold onto the plug as you lower it in. With that said I’ve never had the gap close down from lightly dropping it into the hole. Doesn’t hurt to be cautious though 👍
