    Hello for everyone who had commented bad on pinnawala vidoes of srilanka. Please try to understand that no matter what elephants are wild animals. Do you know how many accidents had taken place in our country due to elephant and human conflict?? We don't know when these elephants would get wild. That is why we have chains to control them if they did so . We can't risk hurting some human or even other young and abnormal elephants. Especially the young adolescent males gof absolutely nuts sometimes. We don't hurt our elephants. Pls try to understand. Ok maybe in a few places Cuz every country has got its own rascals but your thoughts that pinnawala orphanage hurts elephants is so so untrue. Most of these elephants are here since their babyhood when they've lost their mum in the wild. Our caretakers have been taking care of them since then. We bath them we feed them and we also have doctors checking on them every month. Buddhists and Hindus in our country know very well how to treat innocent animals so please dear foreign brothers and sisters don't misjudge us.
    With love from Sri Lanka

    The 3-foot elephant stepped on a landmine, as many do. If they are lucky enough, some of them get a prosthetic at their sanctuary.

    Hi Rasanga thank you so much for the additional information. I do appreciate it. We didn't know about the other one when we were there. Nevertheless we thought Pinnawala was awesome. We loved it. If we go back to Sri Lanka we will try to Udawalawe Sactuary - thanks for the tip.

    Thanks for watching and commenting on the video and the information you shared. I will be sure to check out the reserve in Kenya if I ever get there. There were no animal acts in Pinnawala but there is a lot of human contact. They also rescued a blind elephant and a an elephant with 3 feet. I think they do care. You are right, these elephants are not reintegrated into wild herds but they are taken care of properly and it is still a beautiful place to visit - once again, thanks for your comment.

    0:26... This poor, abused and tormented soul, from how much money they make they could make a prosthesis. Shame on the person responsible. These animals are abused so violently for the sole purpose of "distracting" ignorant tourists and people who are simply indifferent to the torture involved in watching. Shame on those who might stop her but fail to do. Their suffering for the income of their "owners". But their lives are pure hell. Shameful, inhuman. Unthinkable and unforgivable. Sri Lanka uses elephants in the name of religion. They are chained to them and live in isolation. Many are captured from the wild, torn from their families. Then they are beaten until they are broken. This is to make them obey. Then tourist walks in temples are used. They deserve to be happy too and not be chained. The Buddha says that all animals should be free. "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated" (Gandhi). “

    Why do you support a place where they are riding elephants and putting chains around elephants? This is a truly terrible place in Sri Lanka and it is important for people to know that you SHOULD NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE in ANY WAY! Please read Trip Advisor reviews and ask around before going to elephant sanctuaries as many of them (like this one) are not ethical and just keep the elephants caged to attract ignorant tourists. Please remove this video if you actually care about the elephants.

    Most of these elephants who endup in pinnawala are the ones who were already domesticated and unable to send back to the wild and babies of them. If u go to the udawalawe santuary they do have program that often wild elephant babies are rehabilitated and then send back to the wild

  • @ogfergie
    @ogfergie 10 років тому +6

    Animal cruelty is commonplace in these kind of places in Sri Lanka. The whole idea of it being an orphanage is a facade and a lot of these elephants are stolen from the wild - often the mother is killed if she puts up any resistance to the babies being taken away. Whenever a bullhook is being used, animal cruelty is taken a place. Please always question why they have these bullhooks as generally it is indicative of animal abuse.

    • @QuinnyKR

      ogfergie bullhooks are there to maintain the elephants. Do you have any idea what an elephant can do ???????
      May be you should read about Human-Elephant conflict in Sri Lanka!! Every year about 60-70 people and about 100 wild elephants get killed by attacks on each other. And guess what do u know why Pinnawala elephant orphanage is there ?? It's there to take care of the baby elephants whose mothers got killed because of Human-Elephant conflict in this country.

      Bullhooks are there to control the elephants by hurting them when they do not obey the mahouts command. Do you know how they get the elephants Quin Kel? They murder their mothers when they are babies. Then then subject them to years of punishment and torture so they obey their commands. And for what? So tourists can ride on their backs? These animals belong in the wild, they do not deserve this bullshit.

    • @QuinnyKR

      ogfergie I live in this country.. Every years elephants kill about 50-60 humans (mostly by wild elephants).. In return the humans kill about 100 wild elephants who crash in to their villages.. It's called "human elephant conflict" in here.. That's how some of the small elephants get orphaned.. Others get lost in jungle and they are given to the authorities when someone find them.. In case you don't know elephants are the biggest killer animal in Sri Lanka, and taking care of elephants is one of the most dangerous jobs, coz they kill the handlers very often.. Bullhooks are just a deterrent, they use it very rarely... So if you don't know much about a topic don't talk Bullshit here and there..
      You remind me of old day Europeans who thought elephants didn't had bones.. You know nothing about elephants probably never seen one and yet talk like you know everything..

      Quin Kel, As for "do you have any idea what an elephant can do??????" if that is the case then maybe you evil people should leave them alone. Sri Lanka is hell on earth for elephants. I'm sure the elephants hate all the noise and people, the idiots yelling commands, not to mention the bull hooks. There is no evidence of any of Buddha's teachings in this place, and for that you should be ashamed.
