This helped me a lot! After about 2h of practice, I'm getting close to finish the 3rd course of the Strafe Jumping Practice map that comes with Quake Live
Orthorf GOOD JOB!, it's annoying when you are trying to teach ya buddies, but they cant even press the arrow keys and space at the right time saying 'it's too hard'.
I have been practicing circle jump for a few hours now, on xcm_tricks2 - there is a section called cricle jumps - and there are 7 different pads for circle jumps, currently im on the 4th pad barely managing to jump it.. I wonder what is is a good circle jump showed in a map or section specifically for circle jumps. 520ups 490 w- those are just numbers.. there so little oinfo on them.
Very nice ! I especially like how you devided the strafe into its different parts. This is why I quit 8 or 10 years ago but thx to videos like this the stiff learning curve is at least somewhat flattend :D More please
Thank you very much for this video, i stopped playing because i just couldn't get use to the movement! Time to try again with this awsome tutorial! MUCH
Really outstanding tutorial with the slowmotion and all. My only question is. Do you push strafe and flick your mouse BEFORE hitting ground and jumping or you have to do it simultaneously?
@Maelstrom555 Ill assume that you are referring to the mouse flicks. High sens users tend to swear by the fact that they can spin around instantly. They dont realise that with a mid sens, you can spin nearly as fast because your hand can move much faster whilst still in control. Beware though, if you lower your sens, you need a good mouse or you will hit its speed limit and it will skip. I use a razer deathadder, and a sens of about 9 inches/360 (~20cm/360) and it never skips.
I've been trying to work on my movement but it seems hopeless. Basic movement is fine but when it comes to really fast movement, I can't seem to grasp it. I can only really complete hall 2 and even that only occurs occasionally.
Man, ur video is very helpful, thank u a lot! Short and useful how-to with examples, i like it:) One question - where can i get this HUD? I found one on QL forum, but that is a newer version which is not very handy for me. Can u please upload ur version of HUD to any file hosting and place the link here? I'll be very appreciative for this:)
@Zirrealz dunno why, just checked and it dowloaded fine. video description: map link, map link (click me), regular download, download file from sendspace, save.
@egoprick I used a modified version of "QL automatic key recorder" by yatar, which is probably the version you found. Ill upload my version and put a link in the description.
Dude, Joseph, can you still do this? Lane 8 is freaking amazing to see. A guide to Diabotical movement when it comes out would be nice :) Do you ever think of posting more vql/vq3 stafe instructions? You seem to be top .1% of strafers. Chow.
@qutaibah95 to get to the console, press and hold ctrl, alt, and the little squiggly thing next to the 1 key. something should come down and it will be all black and white with words on it. that is the console. type that in there and you should be good
@timcrim follow the link in the description. The download link is at the bottom of the first post, after the red text Installation instructions are at the top
@QuakeJoz ts is a mod for Half-Life one called "The Specialists". It's basically the quake for action movie fans and non-autistics. You know, quake for normal people. Search up TS3 if you don't mind putting that $400 CRT and $5 intellimouse to work.
14 years later, thank you for the great memories
Hey guys I figured it out, you're suppose to press the strafe keys after you jump not at the same time you jump . OMG! This tutorial helped thanks

Im not really sure how to make the curves while strafing.

Such a somber song for a tutorial lmao
Thanks for the help, even 14 years later, hope you're doing ok
Nice video. I've been strafe jumping wrong for a long time now. It's subtle to master.
Really outstanding tutorial with the slowmotion and all. My only question is. Do you push strafe and flick your mouse BEFORE hitting ground and jumping or you have to do it simultaneously?
Love you for this played over 7 years did not know about 10 of these small points lol

thanks, this is the most detailed video I've found so far. I don't quite follow the mouse curving though (as opposed to mouse angle) ?

Best strafe-tutorial on youtube!
The only useful video about strafe jump.
moonlight sonata 1st movement is a calming tune for something so nerve-wracking as re-learning sjing
