اُس نے کہا ہاں خُداوند کِیُونکہ کُتّے بھی اُن ٹکڑوں میں سے کھاتے ہیں جو اُن کے مالِکوں کی میز سے گِرتے ہیں۔ And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
The statement by Jesus toward the Syrophoenician Woman seems jarring and out of character, ar first. But notice how Jesus turns it all around? He compliments her faith and performs the requested healing. In Mark 7:26-30, we read: "Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoeni′cian by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. And he said to her, 'Let the children first be fed, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.' But she answered him, 'Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.' And he said to her, 'For this saying you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.' And she went home, and found the child lying in bed, and the demon gone." This is even more dramatic in Saint Matthew's account: Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly. (Matthew 15:28) Context and Explanation: Whether you call the woman a Canaanite as Saint Matthew does or a Syrophoenician as Saint Mark does, the woman was a Greek-speaking non-Jew who the Jewish disciples of Jesus viewed as unclean. In Matthew 15:22-23, we are told this woman begged the disciples to help her daughter. Instead of trying to help her, they went to Jesus and asked him, “Send her away, for she is crying after us." The disciples were prejudiced. They did not even look at this woman as a fellow human being worthy of dignity and compassion. It is in this context that Jesus at first seems to play into the disciple's prejudice, and then turn it on its head. As Saint Emphrem the Syrian wrote, Jesus used this occasion as a teaching opportunity for His disciples. He teaches them a lesson they will never forget. Inwardly the disciples must have been cheering when Jesus aks the woman: "Is it fair to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs?" Then the woman replies with great humility and wisdom: "Yes, Lord, but even the little dogs get to eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table." In that one sentence this pagan woman acknowledged Jesus Christ as Kyrios, the Lord, her God and Savior. And that she would be happy to receive even a mere crumb of grace from her Master's table, to save her daughter. And then Jesus, in the presence of his disciples, calls the pagan by a proper title of dignity and respect: "Woman." Not dog, but the same title the Lord uses to address hus own mother, Mary. "Woman." Perhaps the disciples are aghast as suddenly their prejudices are repudiated by Jesus. "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire," Jesus says. She is no dog. She is a human being made in God's own image and likeness who God desires to be saved and come to the fullness of the truth. "And her daughter was healed instantly," we are told. The woman returned home and found her daughter restored to health and the demon gone. By Matthew 28:19, when the Risen Jesus tells His disciples to go out to all the peoples of the earth, they no longer have their former prejudices. Indeed, by Acts 10:34-35, prior to catechizing and baptizing a pagan household, St. Peter will declare: "Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality, but in every nation any one who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him..." Peter bears witness to this pagan household accepting the Gospel and being received into the Church in the waters of Baptism, and becomes a proponent in the early Church of evangelizing the pagans. I hope this answers your questions and addresses your concerns. The New Testament is amazing in that it repeatedly portrays the Apostles, the men Christ chose to build His Church, as flawed human beings. They were works in progress, and so are we.
Dear BroThomas, I am very grateful for your effort to have the courage to speak the Word of God, but I ask you, brother, that this answer is not so useful in the society in which we live. How to respond to it in this way is not useful
