I have been noticing some other Southeast Asian fellows in your channel look down on Vietnamese beaches and islands, but they don't know that Vietnam is the only country in MAINLAND Southeast Asia to possess a volcanic island (disclaimer: Nantha Kyun island in Myanmar is formed by mud volcano, so it is not real volcanic island). Interestingly, Vietnam doesn't have one Ly Son volcanic island, there are many other volcanic islands like Cù Lao Bờ Bãi (near Ly Son), Phú Quý islands, Hòn Hải, Cồn Cỏ,... And I must say volcanic islands, together with limestone islands, are much more beautiful and interesting. It is about the diversity of island types, Geomorphology and landscapes, not the quantity of many beautiful islands but same old repetitive landscapes.
Thank you for your comment! I agree with you, the islands in Vietnam (especially if we count the bays in the north) are beautiful and diverse, I honestly don't understand how they are relatively unknown by tourism. I mean islands like Ly Son, Nam Du, Phu Quy (never been there, but I've heard about it and saw it in videos, I'll go one day for sure). One thing I love about Vietnam is that there are so many nice places to explore!
@@thaonguyen-jg3zu Thank you for your kind words! I have some plans for future videos. From other countries, too, but I live in Vietnam, so I'll check out some more places here, too, for sure! :)
They are jealous. Vietnam not only has many islands unexplored and not yet discovered but many beautiful beaches in some of its major cities which the rest of Southeast Asia rarely has
Well, I think they have a reason to boast about their beaches and islands. But I believe that it is the diversity of Vietnam landscapes, seascapes and climate that beats them. I firmly believe that no country in SEA can experience a winter at sea like the north of Vietnam's sea. The lowest temperature can drop below 5° C at islands and coastal cities in winter. Meanwhile, Myanmar can only experience winter deep into the interior and at high altitude, not at the beaches and islands. (I mention Myanmar a lot here not because anyone from that country being jealous here, just because they have a marked winter and also the country is also really diverse). That is to say, traveling in Vietnam brings much more than we imagine. Traveling in summer or in places year-round tropic? As old as hills. Want a change of air? Why not visit beaches and islands in winter? Hits different.
Wow... I had lived and worked in Vietnam for many years, but I did not know about Ly Son island. It will definitely be on my bucket list. I better visit it next year before the place becomes a tourist destination and the island is filled with backpackers.
I was stationed on Ly Son island with the US Army on a Decca navagation site (Green Central ) in 1968-69 when it was know as Co Lao Re island. I was shocked to see how much the island has changed in this video over many decades. The one thing bewilders me though is the disapperance of the air strip that was adjacent to our base. I'm guessing that the only way to get to the island now is by boat. Also, it see the volcano has now been filled with fresh water. How strange it all seems to me now.
These changes seem to be very big, indeed. For me it was really surprising that Ly Son was super laid back, there are no luxury resorts, no tour groups, which is a great thing of course, but the island is easily accessible and it is gorgeous.
Hey, I'm following you travel route! Cam rahn and then on to ly son, how did you book your speed ferrry in advance? We will go from sa ky. Many thanks!!!
Hi! My friend who is from Vietnam booked it for me, he found the phone number of the office at the port and made a reservation! Maybe talk to someone at the accommodation where you are staying at, I'm sure they can help you out! Have a nice trip!
