- Guitarist Macyn Taylor performs "Ramblin On My Mind" by Robert Johnson in the Tap Milwaukee studio. Taylor, 17, earned a bachelor's degree in fingerstyle guitar from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in December, the youngest graduate since the 1970s, according to UWM officials.

Macyn Taylor and Mick Taylor. Both great guitar players.Excellent.
Awesome Performance ... Macyn, You just keep gettin' Better and Better Girl!
I like when you sing the blues the best! And your playing is always impeccable! Great job!
You have some great chops and a nice touch with that slide and the right hand picking Macyn. Keep the great stuff coming.
You go girl....wow. making it happen...BRAVO.
Shes very good! Its great to see a woman who has a very free and precise playing style. And great singing too, Brilliant!
Those slide fills definitely have Blues in them! Sweet rendition! Keep on rockin' Macyn.
i 've heard plenty of great blues players and i loved this.....i won't single anyone's particular comments...but they are no doubt JEALOUS as hell....keep it up darlin'
World class. Plain and simple. Thanks for this , made my night better!
thank you, Macyin.
You rock the blues young lady. Don't stop.
To be so young and have soooo much blues!!! Great job.
GREAT Macyn, you continue to amaze me, l know you have a wonderful future ahead. l dont understand why some people cant even make a comment without useing bad language, so sad...
Finally ,someone comes around who can sing and play on her own merits and some people have nothing but bad mouthing and and try to pick her apart. Yes she's young and will only get better, although she's superb already. I think if you give country music a try ,you should try a little Hank Williams. You seem to have a voice that could do great covers of his music. He was also young and look where he was when he passed away. Stay the course and be yourself and maybe one day I'll get to hear you play in Pennsylvania, the Lehigh Valley.
Bravo!
This is great. I've seen her do Leo Kottke chops before but here she sings really well, she sounds like a true pro blues singer. 🙂
Cool, Macyn!!!
Great Song! Great Voice! I would really like to her hear her singing in a country context
Most people lose the vibe when covering Mr. Johnson, but you've nailed it.
Amazing !!!
Unlike most blues I can hear every word and understand. I don't understand what it is about her voice that permits this. I don't understand why others singers can't? To me she is already a star.
the blues, she's Got it
I am quickly becoming a fan!
This girl is awesome.
Very cool.
Killed. It.
RJ was awesome. Nice cover!
Μπράβο!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell yeah!! Get it girl!
Great work, Macyn!
I love It!
Excellent timing and good control with the slide. Don't pay any mind to all this "mature" BS, The blues are a cultural framework, like Japanese Brush Painting. The context and form may seem constrictive, but there is a universe of music within. Just add what you do, and we all, and the music, move forward.
Carl Fletcher hilarious
Lady sings the blues... :)
👌👍
素晴らしい!!
Guitar - Perfect
Voice - ..............

Great job. Keep playing all styles of music, until you have developed a style you can call your own,
Yes I can :p open D.
What the???? Did the devil get her soul too?
Good Job but I prefer you to use the Banjo,
cute
God that was awful all technique and no blues.
what !! no you are wrong ! she definitely has got that bluesy drive with her playing, would she need to grow a mustache to convince you or wat ?
No soul or feel either. Memphis Minnie , Alberta Hunter, Ruth Brown and Sister Rosetta Tharpe are spinning in their collective graves. Help us lord!
Maycn, I think you should take "Big Al"s comments seriously. First of all, I am nearly 60 years old, so I've been listening to music and singers for a long long time. And although some people may bash me for this next statement, I have watched every season of American Idol and The X Factor, and have learned quite a bit from the judges and their critiques about the art of singing. My brother is also in the music industry and I have given him constructive criticism when necessary. I have also seen you play live, so I have more to go on than just a video. Big Al's statement that your vocals have an issue due to you dropping your tones at the end of a phrase is dead on. It is bothersome to the ear and it also makes it sound as though you are out of breath. Although the Blues are more authentic to someone who has a few years under their belt, more life experiences, more heartaches, I don't agree with Big Al that you shouldn't sing the blues, you do need to sing what is in your soul, but you do sound like you could cross over to country very easily. You are an excellent guitar player, I love slide, but hon, please take the occasional criticism seriously. You are too young to ignore what older more experienced ears can tell you. Work on your end notes, get rid of the flatness and "out of breath" sound when you are at the end of a phrase. And unless the blues is all you ever want to play, I'd like to hear something a little more upbeat and young, consider country. And as Big Al said, please take this criticism in a good way, we wouldn't bother wasting our time if we didn't think you were worth it.
I love the way 'armchair critics' on YT give out advice because they have watched 'X-Factor' etc (LOL !!). There is no 'art to singing', especially with regard to the blues, it's a feeling, Hendrix described himself as a terrible singer, yet people love his singing. Btw, I am over 60, my father was a professional jazz musician and I have played music for over 50 years. She already plays and sings many many styles. Please do not judge her by the standards of current 'talent' shows. They are one of reasons the music world is filled with mediocrity these days. Macyn is a rare talent, and if her playing and singing sounds good to people, then it is correct. That is what music is all about. I am sure Robert Jonson did not sing 'correctly', yet he is idolised by Clapton, The Stones and thousands of other PROFESSIONALS. It is the people who are different and individual that shine in the end, not the formalised pitch-corrected garbage we have to suffer these days.
Btw, the blues is full of flattened notes , that is what the Blues Scale is, a minor pentatonic with flattened notes ! As for 'Big Al's comments, they were incorrect and biased. Some of the greatest blues singers of all time were young women (Bessie Smith to name just one). As for the 'judges' on X-Factor (Cowell and the like !!), when were they ever serious musicians ?? Cowell is one of the most hated people in the UK, no music fan respects opinions from people like him, he is not interested in music, just in making more millions for himself.
Ya, I knew mentioning X-Factor and American Idol would get me in trouble, and yet a musician who isn't willing to take constructive criticism (and needs it) isn't going to go far. She's an excellent guitarist with a good voice, but could be improved. Just sayin
Oh, and don't misunderstand, I in NO WAY was comparing her to a talent show. I just found the way she drops her notes bothersome, and it does make her sound a little out of breath. But then, why should I care?
CuzKatieSaysSo I suggest you listen to some old recordings of Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson and others. They drop their notes (as did Hendrix when he sungs the blues) because that is how the original blues was sung, full of woe , mournfulness, nuances and feeling. Singing old times blues is different to other styles of singing. She is singing this perfectly the way it was intended. She is more than capable of singing 'correctly' (whatever that means) on 'Reynardine' and many other performances. With respect, I think you have little understanding of old time delta blues and with 14 dislikes out of 56,555 views she is obviously singing it wonderfully to 99.999% of people's ears. As I said, there is no 'correct way' with music. If it sounds good then it is good.
No doubt there are others on here who are more expert than me, but I say keep on keepin on just like you are young lady. As far as "sticking to other genres" goes, I find that to be a hell of a thing to say. Blues needs to be brought out in new blood as much as possible, and you picked that song as well as Robert J. himself. (surely that will irk some folks) All respect to the gentleman who said it's "adult" music, but yeah...hogwash. In this world of Taylor Swifts and Katy Perrys, to discourage a young lady wanting to sing and play the blues is just misguided, and , well, wrong.
Well said. I only found out about her a month ago. I don't think she's quite found her voice yet but when she sings Johnson in particular it sounds like she's getting there. What I really love is how she makes difficult guitar work look easy!
Greetings from a 64 yr old fart from Kalbaskraal, South Africa - couldn't agree with your comment more, she is obviously listening to some of the old, and older greats, some well known, and some not so well known, by the choice of her songs, and thats a good sign, her guitar work is beautiful, she's accomplished on it, and Don Taylor (also only discovered her a few weeks ago), agree 100% with you on the voice, not quite there yet, and in fact on one or two of her posts I have encouraged her to keep working on and honing the vocals, but all in all, what a ray of light and sunshine to see and hear such a pretty clean fresh looking young girl doing justice, and reviving the good stuff - And yes Daniel, I asked her on one of posts to consider some of Mississippi John Hurt and Mississippi Fred McDowel stuff - (I'm also no technical expert, as far as I got was a crappy version of the "House of the Rising Sun" on guitar)

Only in a country that celebrates and encourages mediocrity and downright inferiority (the United States of America) would this video gather 18 downvotes. Her other videos where she plays impeccable versions of difficult music collect haters also...Look at the Grammy nominations this year or in years past. Absolute crap lauded as stellar artistic achievements. If you can perform at the high level Macyn Taylor displays in this and other UA-cam videos, you get shit on by the hoi polloi. The US is so fucked up I can barely stand to live here any more.
You are fantastic, Ms Taylor. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to your craft. I wish you a long, successful career and a happy, fulfilling life.
+Jan Kafka Couldn't agree more. Raw dedicated talent burns through all the overproduced concept shows any day - Yet you are blessed in the US. I wish we had something close to Macyn Taylor in my part of EUtopia
15 dislikes out of 64,000 views. No further comment necessary. More blues singing and playing please Macyn, we love it !
You freakin' killed it.
I know this is an old vid but the music NEVER gets old...
I'm not sure why anyone would have anything negative to say about this...she's undeniably talent and does a great job with this song. Keep it up Macyn!
This is an amazing rendition of the master of blues and rock and roll, Robert Johnson, who has influenced everything from blues to rock to country and jazz. This young woman does the most impressive job of capturing Johnson's spirit that I've seen. Than off-tempo thing that Johnson does during the guitar solos -- she pulls it off better than ANYBODY. And that's sayin something. The rest of her guitar work is masterful, too. Good stuff!!!!!!!!!!
Now that's a nice young lady!!!! Taylor Swift? Ah hell, no! Macyn Taylor!
Love her playing especially the blues
Keepin' it alive. Talented young lady can sure play the slide in open E.
I think you sound fabulous. Don't compare yourself to others. Follow your heart and you can't go wrong. And if ya get low, listen to tommy emmanuel .
I LOVE IT!!! It's nice to hear a woman actually SING!! :) It's women like you that should be making a name for themselves in music! I admire your musical talent!
I'm a new Macyn Taylor fan! She's amazing!
Blues parfait dans la tradition; jeu de guitare exceptionnel et voix digne des plus grands
Been looking around at your vids... (linked from a folk site) and I LOVED them! Nice work, don't let the haters bring you low! Keep refining your craft! All the best... ~Blu~
I've never commented on a You Tube EVER!! This deserves something. Thank you.
I take music classes with her at UWM
There will always be critics. You sound really good to me , keep doing your thing. Well done.
man had a hard day but this made up for it. very talented
better than most Rock Stars
Hey you're pretty good young lady. Awesome Performance :)
You took a classic, ran with it and made it all your own, Superb!
Such a beautiful voice and guitar sound!
There a couple of ladies who bring new life into this old masterpiece. Great job Macyn!
If you love this song, as I do, you my check out Rory Block's version too!
Rory has recorded most of Rober Johnsons titles, some of them really brilliantly.
That was so freaking good
Wow found this 10 years to the Day it was made...4/26.2022...Love it. Great version thank you.
Great stuff, Macyn. This stands very well with Rory's version......unique spin on this. Just love it. More please.
Robert Johnson would've sold his soul just to play that guitar =)
ATTENTION: There seems to be something wrong with this video now. I watched it before, but now it won't play. It seems to be corrupted, it says it's there but goes through to the end in a microsecond. You can move the seek bar to different points and see her but it will not play. Maybe check with UA-cam? Please fix or re-upload as this is a great vocal performance. Cheers.
.
EDIT: I found a backup copy online so I have it if you or anyone needs it. It would be a shame to lose the comments and views though, see if UA-cam can fix this one.
Love everything about this, the lyrics, Macyn's singing and playing, wonderful.
young girls can play the blues toooooo, perfect, i wished i could do it like she plays it. a real talented girl
Excellent playing. Nice, distinctive blues voice! Those low notes will come easier if you take up whiskey and cigarettes (-;
I assume you are familiar with Elmore James. If not you should check him out. Another nice slide piece is Sinnerboy by Rory Gallagher.

Yes! I like it. Guitar good, voice needs extending, such as humming at the end of sentences..
Great vocal, Twiffer! You wear the blues like well broke in cowboy boots. Let's hear more. How's about something (blues) you come up with about your times in Wisconsin?
My 5-year-old is dancing and doing her "math homework" at the same time.
