  • After getting the Pro-V back from the dealer yesterday and then reloading my gear, all there was left to do was splash it and make the maiden voyage with the new Pro XS. Headed to a local lake that afternoon. There was a little wind & chop. Video footage below includes that first run as well as my first impressions at the end. All things considered this deal came & went together fairly smoothly. Huge Props to Maple Bay Marine in Brutus, MI True Professionals in every sense of the word. Besides being delivered a full month early (when does that ever happen? ) Mercury did make the new Pro XS very close to a plug & play replacement for the Optimax. So the dealer was able to remove the old, and mount the jack plate & new motor as well as test run it for me, all in 1 day. We had discussed using the same motor height & prop (Tempest Plus 21 inch P) and so far that seems to be very good. The dealer set the motor's computerized trim stops to prevent any steering gear hang ups. Motor matched up to my existing throttle and smart craft gauges seamlessly. So as of now, I am very pleased - and really happy with the 5 year warranty.
    There will mostly likely be more to come here as we go along.

    I'm taking my 2000 Ranger 518vx next week to get the Pro xs 200. It's replacing a 20 year old Evinrude Ficht 175. With the 175 I got a little over 57mph, I probably could have got 60 if I trimmed it out more but I was nervous about chine walking. The place that's putting the new motor on said I should be hitting 70+ with the 200. I'm also getting a SeaStar hydraulic jack plate with 6" setback and a pair of 12' Talons. I've been without my boat since March and can't wait to get back on the water. I also plan on getting the Supreme Bunk Boards that I asked you about on your video about them. Thanks for these videos, you are very thorough with your reviews.

    With that jackplate putting the motor farther back you should be able to take the motor higher for more speed without losing water pressure. To a point of course. It is amazing what a 1/2 inch higher can do in certain situations.

      Not doubt John. However some of the bigger water I fish stability & handling trump 'speed'. I'll always want the handling running the waves and any speed is a bonus. Currently getting plenty of both where it's at.

    I thought there is an extremely specific break in rpm regimen which includes wide open throttle for 1 minute a couple of times in the first two hours. Also it’s recorded in the engine for warranty purposes to make sure it was broken in properly.

    • @AjLynn45thParallelFishing
      @AjLynn45thParallelFishing  2 роки тому

      There was a 10 hour break in on this one and it did require speed variance. Always best to refer to the manual for specifics. Perhaps wind & water noise is making my rpm changes somewhat difficult to decipher, but I was on it. AJ, thank you for this and all of your high quality videos! They had a major impact on my decision to purchase a Lund 1875 Pro V Bass and I have not been disappointed! Few questions:
    ----what type of prop?
    -----did you go with the performance gauging?
    -----why did you go with a 6" jack plate versus an 8"?
    ------did you consider going with hydraulic jack plate and was there a reason you didn't go that way versus manual?
    Thanks again for your videos. They have been a great help!

    • @AjLynn45thParallelFishing
      @AjLynn45thParallelFishing  6 років тому

      Hello Jon and thank you for the kind words, I certainly appreciate it. Congrats on your New Rig ! Here's the answers to your questions: I am running the Mercury Tempest Plus Propeller 21 Pitch 48-825862 21p. Switched it off the 200hp Optimax - been working great. I did order the Pro-V Bass with smart gauges - they monitor & display a ton of needed info - big fan. Besides the performance benefits, I went with the 6" manual jack plate to offer a little more space between the SI transducer & the Pro XS lower unit (had some minor obstruction which is gone now) As for manual vs hydraulic, I run big deep water rarely super shallow stuff. Additionally I'd never run on plane in skinny water anyway - too risky. So I'd never have the need or the desire for the extra equipment required for the hydraulic unit or the extra weight that comes with it. Another reason I went with the 6 inch vs anything more was that the boat was running & handling Great. I did not want to alter that too much. Not interested in tapping more speed from the rig as 60 plus mph is plenty fast enough for me. I'd rather retain the stability & handling than lose any of that in the name of speed. Hope this helps. Enjoy your New Pro-V Bass - You know I do . . . .

    In your opinion could you troll with that motor? Say 3-5 mph for muskie.

    • @AjLynn45thParallelFishing
      @AjLynn45thParallelFishing  3 роки тому

      IMO, Barely. Even at Clutch speed my rig cooks along pretty fast. I never do it as trolling is not part of my approach for Brown Bass. Also, my 2016 rig 'wanders' a bit at slow speeds. Meaning it doesn't track in a very straight line at what is usually considered trolling speed. Hope that helps.

Good Luck with your decision & eventual purchase - and a solid way to ensure you're giving your rig every opportunity to provide it's best performance is to power it with the the horsepower to actually do it ~ Get the 200 hp ! :C)

    • @AjLynn45thParallelFishing
      @AjLynn45thParallelFishing  4 роки тому

      Intially, I did not have a jack plate when the Talons were installed. Additionally, by mounting them on the stern, they are 'further apart'. The wider they are set, the more stable a stance is achieved. Prevents the boat from spinning, while they are deployed.

      Hi Martin ~ I store this rig in my garage which has a standard 16 ft wide x 8 ft tall door. The height of the top of the ProXS going in/out is just under 7 ft - so I have plenty of room. This measurement was taken with the motor's lower unit still secured to the transom saver. Max motor height might be a little less without. I wouldn't ever recommend trailering a rig with the motor 'down'. Hope that helps.

      It's pretty much same Jordan. The power band is different between the two motors. It's hard to explain and I'm still getting used to it. But early on, it does appear that the V-8 has a ton more power & acceleration at the top or back end on the throttle. Meaning when you lean on it the last 1500 or so rpm's, it still throws you back in your seat. Something the 2-stroke didn't really do. I like that.
