Wow. Fields of Fire. You're in the deep end of the pool now Two things worth mentioning: you should include the Mortars, MGs and Bazookas in all scenarios. The "Missions" header is a misprint. It should say "Ammo per mission". Also, note that terrain modifiers are always added whether units are under a cover marker or not. Cover markers just give an additional modifier.
Excellent video. I've been piecing together how to play this, but it's been sort of frustrating keeping track of all the rules so I find myself playing Thunderbolt Apache Leader for my solitaire sessions. Hopefully I'll get the hang of things now.
This is SO helpful to me. I really appreciate your time and efforts in making these. Has really helped me out. I recently got this and was like....what have I done....haha but after many attempts and plays I think I know around 50% of the rules now :) nah, this has helped me a lot and I appreciate it!
be aware that the LOS explanation (17:54) is wrong, see 5.2.1, you can fire through a card if both crossed borders of this card are white, you can always cross green border on the originating and target card.
finally got a hold of this beast, but wow is it a struggle to get my head around it! Real shame your tutorial is so short because you have an excellent way of explaining things.
The Mission column in the OoB is errata: it should say "Ammo per mission" You start with everything listed in the OoB from Mission 1 on. Anything thats mission specific will be listed under attachments in the mission info of each mission.
Just received FoF2 today, so using your vid as an intro to the system. I’ve had volume 1 for years and never quite got into it despite several starts. Thanks for the video!
I bought the game based on this and your earlier video, the rules are dense as you advised, so really looking forward to all the help with the next tutorial in this series, please don’t let it be too long before posting but no pressure ☺️
Thanks, I’m looking forward to future episodes. Small nitpick though: aren’t the staging area cards meant to come from another time period’s deck, e.g. when playing Normandy, you make the staging area out of cards from Korea or Vietnam? I know that would look odd, but it is the RAW, IIRC.
I recently bought the game myself and so far i `v been able to play one time, but this game is outstanding. I`m waiting the episodes. As i observed if u get a heavy machine gun team in the multi story building u have a huge advantage. Anyway, can one get a HMG team on a multy story building? hmm
Thanks for the time you took for this. I have the game and after reading the rules decided it would be too much bookkeeping to interest me. After seeing this & the subsequent video I’ve decided I will likely enjoy the game. Seems to have “teeth.”
Andrew Swan no, sadly, it's just been pushed back forever. I've resigned myself to never seeing it. Kind if like the combat commander Pacific reprint (although that's a slightly different case).
They reviewed the game and figured out that Hull had too few errors in the game. They are waiting to publish until it has a sufficient amount of errata.
There are some differences, but I didn't play 1st edition so I couldn't accurately list them. You should at least be able to follow this.. generally speaking, but there will invariably be nuances that have changed from 1st ed.
I'm actually re-redoing this series soon, because I got some things wrong, and they have the new Volume II. In the mean time check out Blue Tweezers, he has a "corrected" series that is very good.
lol. I understand! Thanks for circling back around to it. It’s a game that still throws me for a loop at times. Your breakdown already showed me some things I did not know. Look forward to the next time!

More than 100 hours playing this and counting. This is my desert island game, definitely. Great to see you play this !
Than u should make an in depth tutorial/playtrough. U have the experience :-)
Marko Ramius Educate us good sir and allow us benefit from thy knowledge!
I like the look of this game so it’s going on my wish list. You and Grant are teaching me so much about wargaming, keep up the good work.

This is an excellent and useful video for people like me which need an induction to play this game properly. Looking forward to the first action

Great video. Cannot wait for the next one.

Fantastic looking forward to more vids on this
finally got a hold of this beast, but wow is it a struggle to get my head around it! Real shame your tutorial is so short because you have an excellent way of explaining things.
Agreed, but I’m waiting to get a hold of the new rules and start it over. Apparently they’re much better (a relative term).
@@ThePlayersAid that'd be fantastic!!
You did it, you really did it. Well done, hooray, looking forward to seeing this progress! Thank you!

Excellent video! This is a great but fiddly game, it needs as much tutorials as poossible.
Super. Waiting for the rest.
Excellent intro video, looking forward for in play training!
Thanks for doing this series
Awesome L2P, just got the game & love it so far!
More vids still coming?
Just got the second ed. update kit.
Nice!
So when the next part is coming?
Note also that (I think?) you should be assigning your Rifle Grenades to specific squads, not having them sitting on the Command Display (9:00)
Great video by the way, looking forward to more. Even better if we can see your well dressed self in an intro! ;D
And u forgat the mortars and bazookas. Also HMG and LMG teams. I believe they are in the mission briefing too.
Yeah, I goofed, there's an errata already about how that was printed in the mission briefing.
No harm in forgetting them for the first play or two.

The rules say so but I don't think it makes much difference unless you actually work all the way through the terrain deck, does it?
at 25:06 i'm not sure that attack position is adjacent to the objectives.

From what I can tell I believe that is the case.
Keep' em comming :-)
Thanks for the time you took for this. I have the game and after reading the rules decided it would be too much bookkeeping to interest me. After seeing this & the subsequent video I’ve decided I will likely enjoy the game. Seems to have “teeth.”
Also, any idea when volume 2 (Marines) is coming out? GMT keeps pushing back the release date.
Andrew Swan no, sadly, it's just been pushed back forever. I've resigned myself to never seeing it. Kind if like the combat commander Pacific reprint (although that's a slightly different case).
GMT's April newsletter pushed it back till Oct-Dec this year. Which means next year earliest.... ;(
Yeah, I've been reading the newsletters, I was just hoping TPA had some inside knowledge to share.
They reviewed the game and figured out that Hull had too few errors in the game. They are waiting to publish until it has a sufficient amount of errata.
❤
I got 1st edition, do I need to get the upgrade kit to follow this series? Is the upgrades cosmetic or essential?
There are some differences, but I didn't play 1st edition so I couldn't accurately list them. You should at least be able to follow this.. generally speaking, but there will invariably be nuances that have changed from 1st ed.
And the episode 2 is ....... please....
A poor lonesome french wargamer😊
I'm actually re-redoing this series soon, because I got some things wrong, and they have the new Volume II. In the mean time check out Blue Tweezers, he has a "corrected" series that is very good.
And episode 2 is expected when...?
Soon, I have it set up and just need to get a quiet moment to do it.
lol. I understand! Thanks for circling back around to it. It’s a game that still throws me for a loop at times. Your breakdown already showed me some things I did not know. Look forward to the next time!
how much of a difference is there between 1st and 2nd edition?
Mostly Erratta from what I gather. I'm hoping Volume II addresses the issues of the rulebook layout.
