The Blough looked so amazing as she pushed out against that wind and those waves. Your head on was just a wonderful capture of her steely might! What a wonderful looking ship.. So sorely missed by all.... ⚓⚓⚓
Mike Gustafson My top 5 James R. Barker unique 2 tone Paul R. Tregurtha Big sounds to match the biggest freighter Joseph Block great sound, sometimes with the bagpipe bonus Roger Blough, just classic Alepena, old school steam whistle. But that is just me. What a beauty ! One would never expect her bow-width, when only seeing her slim and slender side-profile. I am stunned every time! Impressive head on shot ~ thank you !!!
@@alaricdogface the Blough was constructed in 1972 as the last american freighter with the pilothouse foward and she was the Queen of tge lakes until the Cort arrived
US steel had their reservations whether the size of those super carriers could operate on the lakes so they went conservative when they built the Blough. Not nearly the length of a 1000 footer or definitely not as deep. Wasn't until Bethelhems Cort was running the lakes just fine did they decide to build bigger
The Big Fitz is my favorite of all time then the Middletown no longer in service then the Anderson and The Roger Blough The Wilfred Sykes and the Edward L Ryerson

Looks so low to the water. It must be a frightening experience sailing through one of them monster great lake storms, watching them Hugh wave breaking over the front of the ship...... And sometimes the side 😲

She was a unique vessel and I always enjoyed seeing her. Her loss is a huge blow to those of us who love the great lakes ships. 😥
Out standing Video.
Thanks - we were out standing in the wind!
Nice salute. Her pipes are #4 in my ranking of Great Lakes freighters.
Yeah she has a good whistle.
What are your Top Five in order, if you don't mind...? 🤔

I've always enjoyed seeing the Blough, she's such an interesting looking ship.
Awesome video. I live not far from the sea shore. I take the fairy sometimes just for the ride
I would too, if we had one. So I take the tour boat instead.
@@alaricdogface
Oh nice. The fairy goes from Delaware to New Jersey an back
Finally a proper master salute from the Blough! First time since 2017!!!!!

Another beautiful spring day...
alaricdogface cold cold here. Can’t get any weather. Rain and wind. Florida sounds nicer every day.
@@atlanticocean640 This morning I was sweating it was so warm and then the wind switched off the lake and I froze the rest of the day.
alaricdogface I helped a friend today do carpentry and was warm then froze. Same day I guess
Good old Roger...she is a beauty of the U.S Steel fleet!
Yes she is!
@@alaricdogface no offence but I dont like the silver and black paint on the bow of U.S Steel ships I like it more when they where all red
@@ac-maleanimatronic-6265 Of course then they looked like Interlake ships.

I like how she sits low in the water.
With a load of iron ore 43,000 tons more than the Roger Blough weighs empty

@@scottburns5376 Very interesting. The Blough and the Cort have similar self unloaders too.
LOVE this! I love to see the ladies steaming against the wind ❤️
Gonna punch a few waves on the way out!
That's a pretty cool shot of the ship coming right at you. It's a good looking ship!
Tough to hold the camera still in that wind but it is fun to get that shot.
I agree! I love the look of them old freighters.
Massive
Not the longest but very wide.
O Superior looks a little angry today 🛳⚓✌
Everybody gettin wet today!
We don't need no steenking tug!
