    Been happily married 11.5 years and dated for 3.5 before. The best advice I can share with any couple through learned experience is that when you get upset and are about to fight, you CAN control your reaction. When you realize and understand that actions/reactions are choices, not reflexes, you then have two options. You can choose to add fuel to the fire, or you can choose to throw water on it and try to extinguish the fire. If both of you are aware of this and genuinely work to start doing this, it will absolutely change your relationship. That, and honest (but not brutal) communication. Grace goes a long way!

    I am as well so passionate about that subject regarding child exploitation. This whole topic has really shifted my mindset and it made me realize that maybe it was wrong of me to talk about my child’s issues online.
    My daughter went to a friends house with my husband a while back and when she came home she told me that there was someone there who knew so much about her and said that they have watched her grow up on facebook and she had no clue who this person is. She said she thinks that’s weird how other people know so much about her and we didn’t ask her if it was ok. Ever since then I have privatized all of her pics and I will only discuss my own stuff and nothing about my kids. I will leave it up to them to discuss their business when they are older.

    This is absolutely no hate towards any of you, because I like your podcast, both of you have really cute families. It's just my own opinion about children on the internet.
    You mentioned that when your child says "no, I don't want to be filmed", you'd turn off your camera. And that is awesome and more people should do that, but I don't think a 2 year old, let's say Jack as an example, is aware of what the internet is. And you might post something about him that he says yes to and then 10 years later he regrets that video is on the internet forever. And it's not even just about little kids, because you can't give informed consent until you are 18.
    Another thing is the memories, I get that, but you don't have to upload those memories to millions of strangers, because they are for you!
    I also understand how it makes you feel good when people message you and say lovely things about your family and kids, but I could not not think about those people who don't have good intentions towards my family.

    • @AW-1811
      @AW-1811 Рік тому +19

    • @livm99
      @livm99 Рік тому +15

      They (the kids) don't understand the impact of it all... and I strongly believe they have no idea what those videos mean - in terms of how they're on the internet for everyone to see and that's infinite once something's out there.
      There are many celebrities who do that (protecting their kids) and one thing they always say is that they themselves chose this life but their children haven't and so I feel like in order to want the best for your child you shouldn't show them unless they can rightfully consent.
      I'm sure they all know how lucrative it is to show the kids... not saying they're exploiting it, just saying they're definitely aware... especially considering the recent content I've been seeing about their daughter (Beeston's).

    • @-neleh-
      @-neleh- Рік тому

      @@AW-1811 I believe that they do understand things about the internet. They have social media accounts, they vlog, the spent half the podcast talking about it. They understand enough to make their own choices on the topic and it's kinda rude to say they don't understand anything about what they work in. Maybe they shouldn't show their kid as much as they do but it's not your job to criticize them for it and it's not your choice what they do.
      They specifically say they know what you're talking about so maybe watch the podcast and learn more about who you're criticizing. They started tearing up about the topic so don't say they don't care about it.

    • @ananastea
      @ananastea Рік тому +3

      yes, it’s important to consider this but i also have this in mind: do 10-year-olds fully realize what they’d consent to and what “the internet is forever” means? yet they can do and say so many more “controversial” things than a 2-year-old.

    • @liliphdr
      @liliphdr Рік тому +8

      @-Goose- if you really actually care about your children and you even mention the dangers of the internet so you are aware then why are you not protecting them? When Sarah said "we know there are creeps out there but at the same time our followers send us messages like I love your kids they are so cute" I could not believe what she just said. I get it that it makes you feel loved that other people love your kids but those people are strangers and even though they are nice how do you that that message wasn't sent by a creep? Just because it was a nice comment it means it wasn't one?

  • @imolaa11
    @imolaa11 Рік тому +618

    About the filming of children topic, i just want to say that I think it's important to consider what kind of content are you putting on the internet. Would your child be ok with that in 10-15-20 years? Would they be embarrassed? Would they be ok to see that their parents showed the entire world some really hard moments they had (like some tantrums)? Because I'm pretty sure at 2 years of age they can't really decide whether it's fine with them or not. And it's not about them not wanting to be filmed right now, but more on the impact those videos may have on them once they realize how exposed they were once.

    • @AW-1811
      @AW-1811 Рік тому +64

    • @afullchalicevlogs7979
      @afullchalicevlogs7979 Рік тому +57

      They can’t ever consent. Even as they get older- their entire lives- mommy and daddy are “so happy” when they decide to film. What kid is going to say “no” when that is their “normal”? They have no ability to predict the outcome, to understand how it will effect their peer group, or know that the internet is literally forever. If my parents did this to me- I would have nothing to do with them. I don’t care how much money they made off me- I would sue them for it as an adult, write them off, and then share every private and personal detail that I could about them. Return the favor, ya know?

    As pertaining to filming kids, I think it’s ridiculous when creators say, “These videos will be our home videos.” The same was said by Kate Gosselin about the Gosselin kids and look at the way that turned out!! I think creators have to be very careful because they know if they don’t have their kids in their videos, their videos won’t be as popular.

    Sarah and Derek were the first couple that showed up on UA-cam for me, I didn't know couples did this as a thing, normally I wouldn't follow a couple or be interested but there was something about how humble they were that kept me watching, I guess the pandemic caused all these couples to arise on social media, it's still weird to me how people do this as a living but I still enjoy watching them, not so much many others, it's them seeming sweet and humble that makes the difference, i like Hannah and regal too, bringing Jesus into their platforms makes a huge difference, not trying to dog matt and Abby but I feel they have changed with more of a following, humble is more attractive in a person in general especially these days where we are living in the most narcissistic generation yet, not trying to hate, just be honest, we are living in some weird times, I didn't know what social media was really til I was 30, I'm 42 now, still find the world odd, if I wasn't bedridden and so sick with chronic illness, not thinking I would be watching anything like this in general

    My children are bigs now, so I have to explain that this little baby & little person time, that sometimes feels overwhelming & stressful, it really goes by super lightning speed quickly. I always said, I’d miss the messes & toy chaos, when they were too big & it was true. There’s a moment when you pick up your youngest for the last time. No one talks about how hard it is on moms especially, when your children grow up, go to college, get jobs & don’t need us anymore like they did. Just savor the littles time, even when it’s high stress & chaos… because one day it stops & you miss it fiercely. I don’t think people speak on that enough. You all are amazing parents & I love watching y’all’s content, because that’s my favorite times of my life, when they were wild & fun babies, being goofy & innocent. I never took that time for granted & now I just want to tell people that so they don’t take it for granted either. There’s a lot of parents who do social media who part of their influence is dogging on parenting like it’s “so hard”. Hardest thing ever, was my eldest going off to college last year. It pains my heart missing her, but this is a new stage of life, but it’s been super sad for me inside. Hug those babes & embrace the chaos. It’s the most amazing & glad you have it all documented. ❤️
