    They used the wrong spring. This is the perfect application for a torsion spring. I have one on the way finally and my own machine shop. I'll try to report back if I get positive results from my line of thinking.

      Where can one find a torsion spring to replace the existing?

    • @jeremyhere2002
      @jeremyhere2002 3 роки тому +4

      Any gunspring place like wolff will have many different types. I think some minor machining will have to happen to fit a torsion spring though. And of course some experimentation to find the right spring rate.

      @@Blxzers marginally. I haven't tried the torsion spring yet. I did relieve to top area of the hole in the trigger housing so when the trigger stop rocks back that the standard compression spring can sort of rainbow up. I did that on my mill but a person could easily do the same with a Dremel.
      As you are looking down the hole for the spring in the housing, relieve the top half of the hole to be more like a cone shape, grind away about 3.5 mm from the 12 o'clock position, tapering back such that you don't remove any material at the 12 o'clock position at the very base of the hole. I have absolutely 0 spring deformation so far.
      What sucks is I have only shot about 80 rounds with it. My 10.5 pistol just isn't going to work without tuning with this trigger. Even with H3 buffer the cyclic rate is so fast that the action isn't picking up he next round off the mag. Tried with H3,H2, and standard buffer. I'd get 2 to 5 round bursts every time. It could also be not enough gas so the action isn't cycling fully. At some point I am going to machine a booster, like a krinkov, and try that route. Next in line is my trusty ole M16 clone with it's 20 inch barrel and as intended gas system.
      Trigger itself is good to go after the mod. Now to figure out how to pair it. But I don't want to waste too much ammo at the moment.

    • @jeremyhere2002
      @jeremyhere2002 3 роки тому +3

      @@Blxzers primary issue with the torsion spring is how to integrate it in with the existing design. I haven't figured out a good way to do that yet and just haven't machines my own housing to accommodate it.

    Gen 1 or not it’s a $400 trigger & at that price it should operate flawlessly so long as you use the recommended buffer & BCG with it.

      It's why I no longer buy "gen I" of ANYTHING anymore. You're 100% correct. This malfunction has been showing up within 300 rounds on most of the YT posts I've seen. This tells me either they didn't test this product, or they KNEW but wanted to get it to market ASAP. Couple that with the tyrants doing what they do best, and here we are. They've come out with a "modified" locking bar that supposedly fixes the issue, so basically, order the bar, extra springs and now you have a $380 + $25 + 3 + shipping trigger.

    Personally, my fix would be to remove the linear compression spring and put in a torsion style just like the hammer has. This is a 100% guaranteed fix with correct geometry and consistent force throughout the range of travel. There is more than enough material to allow opening up the pocket for the proper clearance.

      You can take out a little at a time and rock it until it fits in there without distorting if you plan on doing it. he is basically going in straight, the bit is slightly curved so it eats less the deeper in the area, and MORE towards the outside which gives the spring a channel to lay in..

    I was lucky enough to order mine the first day they went on sale, got it a couple weeks later. Due to laziness and covid, I've only gone to the range with it once. Put around 300 rounds through it and later learned of this spring issue. The spring in mine is showing signs of it, but it hasn't quit yet. Glad to see there are fairly easily obtained replacement springs in the comments here, as well as possible DIY fixes because it's highly doubtful rare breed will do anything about it. They most likely just want to make as much money as they can and/or flood the market before the ATF starts shooting dogs over them. Can't blame them for the former, and I'd actually support the latter - make it that much more impossible for an unconstitutional organization to do its illegal job.

    Dont modify the trigger! It voids any possible future replacement and jepordizes the structual integrity. If your having problems with the spring being damaged just take the spring out of a BIC lighter and cut it slightly longer. I’ll take them apart now abs find out

      I haven’t installed my trigger yet but, it appears that the forced reset lever located at the top rear of the trigger housing has a return spring that gets pinched between the lever and the housing and causes malfunctions. It may be caused by the spring pocket and lever not aligning during movement and or by to much pressure on the trigger. BROzooka arms has another good video on the problem and fix.

    Hey MGG,
    Just spitballing here,
    But would it possible to install a slightly shortened spring with a rounded edge plunger pin at the end, similar to the spring and pin for the mag release button or captured retention pins that connects the upper to the lower?
    I feel like that would alliviate the spring getting caught and bending while giving a smooth surface for the action to work

    • @mp2103
      @mp2103  3 роки тому +1

      I tinkered with this idea myself. Something to the effect of a bolt release spring follower. The problem is but the time the tab is pushed forward by the BCG, the pocket in the tab and the pocket in the housing are so far out of line it’s still going to distort the spring in the middle. You’d still need some sort of relief in the bottom of the black tab to keep the tension off the middle of the spring.
      I like where your heads at though! Same place I went initially.

    If there’s a gen-2, a better solution for rare breed would be to use a torsion spring because torsion springs are designed for non-linear motion. Due to the pivoting nature of that piece, there will always be some degree of non-linear motion in this application no matter the angle of the spring recesses. The non-linear motion can be reduced and/or alleviated as you put it, but not eliminated.

    I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my FRT-15 (FINALLY got the back-in-stock email in time, two days ago!) so I haven't even held one, let alone experienced this problem and developed and tested a solution.... But looking at all these videos about a spring that is misaligned with its direction of compression, I can't help wondering if the simplest and most durable fix wouldn't be to cut and fit a chunk of elastomer to fill that entire cavity in the back of the trigger assembly. There may or may not be sufficient clearance to retain it with one or two tiny zipties; if necessary it would be fairly simple to drill and pin it and the trigger. Does that seem like a viable possibility? I have some heavy black rubber sheet material that was discarded at work despite being in brand new unused condition; I am sure it is at least 1/2" thick. I would be glad to cut a piece (even though cutting this stuff is a MAJOR pain in the butt!) and send it to you to experiment with, if it seems worth the trouble. I would just try it myself, but nearly all of my shooting is done at an indoor range where extensive FRT-15 testing would probably be frowned upon....

    Unfortunately the quality of the parts doesn’t make up for the design flaw, lack of quality control and virtually no customer support other than if you don’t like your trigger, list it on gun broker and get your money back. Gee, thanks Rare Breed. Way to take care of your customers who drooped $350 on your defective trigger design (that could be easily addressed and corrected). Btw potential customer, the issue is not with your weapon platform. It lies in a design flaw concerning the angle of a reset spring within the trigger housing itself. Caveat emptor.

    Good video. My issue is less that spring, which I already fixed on mine and my buddys, and more with the over travel on the trigger. It’s very easy to apply too much pressure to the trigger & end up locking the bolt back. Is there a way to adjust for that over travel? I don’t know if it’s the underside trigger spring or the contacts on the reset trigger. But 99% of run fails in my experience are over pull on what is already a very sensitive trigger system,

    • @colesilverman9023
      @colesilverman9023 3 роки тому

      over travel? the hammer moving backward should be forcing(and locking) the trigger forward, the only thing I would think that would cause that is a non-auto/m16 bolt?

  • @izazayahbanyahawadah
    @izazayahbanyahawadah 3 роки тому

    2 things, what's the possibility of the spring slipping out of the cut out?
    2nd- Does the lever rotate enough that would allow something like a metal sheath/cap over the spring? Something like the buffer retaining pin? Or something that resembles a bolt catch plunger?
    (Just thinking of drop in solutions)
