  • Homecoming Opener. Interesting to note: the IT8 (at the 1:42 mark of the video) produces a very dramatic effect. I don't think I have ever heard another band perform it this way (besides other John Campbell bands, of course).

I remember being in 9th grade and this band coming across the field with the Aztec Fire wall of sound. I played the VHS tape repeatedly throughout high school. I will always look up to the 1984 band! A mature, balanced sound. 5 tubas led by Jeff Harper, a great trombone section and Jim Roe as drum major made for a very special band!

@109022993338319453369 Thanks, Paul. Yes, the '84 band was definitely the best of the three bands I was in. It had the most balanced sound (thanks to a fantastic low brass section) and one of the best percussion sections I have ever heard in ANY high school band. (John Lazel (sp) was the percussion captain). Although, in my mind, we paled in comparison to the '82 band who also did Aztec Fire for the Sr. HIgh/Jr. High combined show. When I first saw them rehearse it, I remember I was trembling uncontrollably and almost passed out! (I know, I was a VERY strange kid.)

bandgeek1969 As a member of the band 82-84 I would agree with you. 84 (my senior year) we were good, but the 82 band, especially the percussion section with captain Jason Styx, was phenomenal. That was truly a very special year.
