Sax - "move outta the way man, got a solo!!"
Brian - "nailin a dubba 'C' here, hang on!!"
That diminished chord at 1:16 is SO sweet. Absolutely perfectly voiced, performed, and arranged. Beautiful!
Referred to as block chords, one of my favorite components of Jazz, and used to be so common in music...
In the 1950s, there were these huge rich harmonic block chords by vocalists/instrumental/piano. It was gorgeous
Airmen of Note - the best!
i almost passed out watching him....cant even imagine trying it.....
Brian you sound so amazing!!!! Bravo!
That's my band! This group is the smooth side of an organization whose purpose is to break things and destroy the enemy...
One of the best double A's I've heard
Nice pure A at the end of the solo. Gotta love it! Great air stream.
The runs and licks in this video are SO CLEAN! Ohhhh what I'd give to be in an ensemble like that just for a day! Great job guys.
Love my Air Force, love the Airmen of Note.
I am totally impressed with the quality of this video. Simply crystal clear.
Two of my favorite lead trumpet players in action! Nice work fellas!
What a lead! Congrats on this amazing performance!
I just stumbled across this. EXCELLENT. These fellows deserve a proper studio and recording!
I saw this live!
Love the way the sax guy steps up like 'get outta the way and let me make some music' ...
Doc would be proud!
Simply amazing
I love this guy!
Damn. That is pretty awesome.
He plays a Conn Connstellation 38B from the 60's.
2:12 all that screaming done with air. with the exception of the first two notes of the gliss, every other note was done using false fingering.....1st and 3rd valves. nothing but pure air power.
I'll check them out.
Bravo Brian!
Congrats
Sure is.I had one back in the old days(1955) and loved it.but how can you tell that it's what Brian is playing?
Hell Yeah!
Nice arrangement.
Absolutely ridiculous! Nice work!
watch in HD...
Thanks for posting these, Kevin. USA Armed Forces bands are and always have been the best of the best. Speaking of best of the best, is that the Bill Holman arrangement that the Tonight Show band used to do?
brian macdonald makes it sound easy!
The tenor solo was probably thinking, "excuse me show off!" Lol nailed it!
Amazing bro. What idiots gave thumbs down?
Yup... 0230 and I'm watching AON vids in my boxers...
Dang.
very nice... looks like a conn 38b am i wrong?
That is my name! I'm featured!? This guy is in my family!?
Ну что сказать? МОЛОДЕЦ!!! ЗДОРОВО!!!
How about the NYJO ?
Conn Constellation. Still a great trumpet!
what do you use to record these performances?
Just
Dag, yo!
Its funny how everyone can be a critic, and here we are just listening as they are out there performing ,at the top of their game too. SMH!
Not upbeat enough
Brian... you are ridiculous. Do you ever miss a note/
As well rehearsed as they are, you can still see that they are reading the music. Watch clips of original big bands....they have the music, but are not reading it...they are playing to the audience. of course, those bands played as a living day in and day out, so they really did know the charts. I guess I just don;t like to see, esp the sax players, hunched over with their faces in the music stand.
Sorry but this is NOT "Begin The Beguine". This is some other Tonight Show tunes thrown in with bits of Begin The Beguine. Not that it is bad. But I can't call this Begin The Beguine!
Yet..... this is the arrangement written for Doc Severinsen to perform with the tonight show band
Sooooo I’d say it is begin the beguine. Any arrangement has the same structure and tune. This one is just written for Doc’s style, which of course is incredible upper register playing.
Doc would be proud!
JESUS CHRIST, Brian MacDonald is incredible. He is so efficient, it looks like he is playing everything down an octave. And I've never heard anyone slot high A as well as he did at the end. Just fantastic.
LOL what about that earth shattering double C at 1:14
