    I am a retired airline pilot and got to fly the 727 as a flight engineer and the 737-100/200 series as a first officer early in my career. My first ever airline flight before I became a pilot was on a United DC8 from Boston to Las Vegas. Your knowledge of these old aircraft is very impressive.

    The NE livery, designed by Raymond Loewy, is one of the very best. 14:22 Loewy also did TWA and Air Force One’s liveries. I can still hear NorthEast’s pitchman urging frozen New Yorkers to “come on down” to Sunny (and warm) Florida.

      The artistic people that created the classic airline memories of yesterday year are pretty much forgotten as almost nobody knows who they are nor the advertising agencies they worked for. So it’s nice that you named one here I appreciate that.

    The DC-8 behind the nose of the Braniffs is Loftleidir Icelandic. My first trip to Europe was in early 1974, JFK>Keflavik>Luxembourg and back with them. Likely that same aircraft.

    In summer 1972, my family (I was only 8 years old) went from upstate NY to LGA on Mohawk, then New York Airways helicopter to JFK, then to the UK - and then a few weeks later the reverse direction. I still have some (short) memories of part of it - it was BOAC to/from the UK, 747 on the way there, VC-10 on the way back. I have distinct memories of the helicopter part. Thanks for the pictures of Mohawk in LaGuardia. I always wondered where Mohawk was located, and now I know.

    I'm looking for footage of 747 refueling during the 70s. I think it is impossible they carry the claimed 52000 gallons of fuel and use 1 gallon per second of flight. The worst air disaster is partly blamed on a 747 taking on 55 tons of fuel delaying the takeoff by half an hour. 18 wheel tanker trucks at gas stations only carry 9500 gallons and can only pump at 350 gpm MAX. To put that much fuel in the plane in that short of time they would be pumping nearly 500 gpm. If you have a video showing these little 3000-5000 gallon trucks refueling one please let me know. This must be like what happened with nasa where actornot Don Petite claimed they can't go to the moon because they destroyed that technology. They must have lost that amazing pumping tech from the 70s as well.

    At first, I was like, "this is just stills? No film footage?" but I love vintage aviation from 1960s to the 1980s and found myself hooked on the content and your enthusiastic description of each photo. Love this stuff! Moments from distant yesteryear captured on film. On reflection, the early 70s were the sweet spot of airliner evolution. It was when the most interesting designs were still relatively new and liveries were the result of a very distinctive rationalized Modernist graphic design. One of my best memories from childhood was watching those Braniff "Flying Colors" 727s taking off while visiting Florida in the early 80's. Liked and subscribed!

      Thank you so much Vibe I very much appreciate your kind comment and subscribing to my channel. Yes, I’m a collector of vintage aircraft slide so when I get groups of slides that are common to a theme, and can make a video like this one, I do present them, even though they’re still images. It is not too often that I do get these sets of slides so you’re right, they do have to have a special meaning from a special era like these. I did a similar presentation on YVR Vancouver BC airport (my hometown airport) in the late 1950s and it was quite well received by the viewers. Thank you for your support and wishing you all the best.

    The United "stars and hockey stick " livery, time stamp 3:34, was their best.❤ Wish that they would go back to using it. At time stamp 7:56, is an airline known as Seaboard World. They, along with Flying Tigers, Evergreen International and Airlift International, were known mainly as cargo operators but they did have passenger operations as well; mainly charter and military contract flights. Deregulation set events in motion that spelled the end of these special and unique carriers. In fact I miss all of the fun, colorful airlines that made flying an enjoyable experience. We need them back....badly.😢

      @@JetFlix same here .I was born in 1964. I'll be 60 in October. The airline business has changed so much and not for the better. I think MORE airlines , created a healthy sense of competition and their unique styles allowed people to "Taylor" their travels to the companies that they enjoyed flying with. I usually don't advocate for government control but the industry needs to Re-regulate, so that the airlines can go back to focusing on passenger service and comfort. I remember when some airlines featured in-flight bars/ lounges and even piano players. On one Delta flight that my mother and I took to Atlanta, the flight attendant had skills as a magician and put on a show. We ALL loved it, especially the kids.🤗

    When do people consider to be the end of the "golden age of aviation"?

    • @JetFlix
      @JetFlix  Рік тому

      This is a great question thank you for asking. For me personally, the end of the golden age would be when the final DC-8s and707s were retired in the late 70s and early 80s. These were the very first jetliners and they were the narrow body jets that were replaced by the 747s on international services. I think everybody might have their own answer to this question but for me it has to be the end of the narrow bad body, classic Jet era.
