Many of the tool videos I watch have a guy showing tools that look like they’ve never been used before. The tools sit in a veto backpack that probably just came out of its packing. Feels like I’m watching a commercial. Chris uses the stuff and gives us an honest opinion of what you need. 👍🏼
I remember when I first got into the field back in 1983 I took my first paycheck and went to Sears. I bought this huge tool set, 1/2” drive, 3/8” drive and 1/4” drive socket sets standard and metric. It came with combination wrenches, all different size screw drivers. I was like a kid on Christmas morning. It came with a metal tool box and when I loaded it up it weighed a ton!
Shaune Slaton hey man that’s awesome ! And remember you don’t have to have this your first day either but it’s good to be prepared . Thanks for watching man 👍
I’ve watched this video probably 5 times in 2 weeks because I love it so much. I am in my secound semester of school for hvac and i am so excited to start in the trade and this aids in my day dreaming. Keep up the great content Chris
Weird coming back to this video. I’ve been working as an hvac tech at a hospital for a little over 6 months now, this video fulled my fire to keep me optimistic through tough times in school and crappy jobs until I got a good one. I’ll be finishing school this December with an associate degree, this videos help a lot of people
Absolutely man ! This isn’t for everyone that’s for sure. Glad you are liking it man. This trade needs many people that wanna do it and it’s short handed always
Good call Chris. When you get started it can be a little overwhelming. A lot of companies will provide tools like impact drivers, meters and out of the normal hand tools. I started with a Craftsman 3/8 ratchet set for $29.95, 26 years ago. I still have parts of it. I have a Vacco 1/4& 5/16 30” nut drivers that I purchased to work on this Teledyne- Lars boiler that was part of a closed loop that I worked on. Anyways great video. Keep em comin. Have a great weekend. God bless.
Awesome take on tools. I have pretty much the same set up. For the new guys coming in to the field tools are important you will find yourself just buying tools. Gages are good to be your most important ones. If don’t know your operating pressure on a unit hard to know what the problem is
Ole guy here. Can’t ever have enough tools. Used a 5 gallon bucket in the 80ies before I got into bags then I went big Now I take as few tools to unit as I have too. Lol. 👍🏼
Good comprehensive tool video. I figured out other tools that were necessary as I progressed through the trade. My career had me on installation and diagnosis and I have many additional sheet metal tools as well as tech stuff. Definitely like the comment on digital guages. Thanks.
Good video👍. I would add some sort of manometer 4 static pressure, gas pressure ect. A saw, razor knife, there's all sort of things, just depends on whether they doing residential, commercial HVAC or Refrigeration. It's hard to throw it all out there when there's so many different areas to the field.
Very good tools to mention man ! I knew I’d forget many things with this video . But for me I don’t use that stuff too much . I’m going from a commercial refrigeration point of view . That’s why I count on fellow brothers in the trade that are my subs to pickup where I leave off !! Hahah. Love when you guys leave comments for others to see 👍👍. Thanks bro !
@@Cscrefandhvac that's why I mentioned it's hard to cover exactly what's most needed when you don't know what they're going into. I remember when I got my first job, I went out to the local lumber yard and bought miscellaneous sheet metal tools that were not the best because I had absolutely no idea what I really would need or what brands were good. So if anything, I would say the best thing for some of these guys to do is to work a couple days and see what their fellow employees are using. Because we're so diversified at times. (Just incase I'll mention) By no means take what I was saying as any kind of criticism, I love your videos.! 👍👍
Thanks so much for the video's Chris. I have the same thought on the klein screwdrivers and pliers, they have there place , but man i hate when i leave them on a roof or some other place lol. It sucks that's for sure. Be safe and stay warm.
are my tools going to be missing from my van tommorrow morning? ..LOL you have like the same brand stuff i do ...thanks great video for my INTRO to HVAC class. i like how you just tell it like it is,..
Great advice for aspiring technicians! I’ve been wondering about a hammer. Do you think I should buy a 16 or 20 ounce hammer? Would a fiberglass handle suffice the hvac demo work? I enjoy your content!
Great video very helpful!! I have a question, for manifold gauges, do I need different types for diferent refrigerants or just one will work? Because I am undecided on buying either the yellowjacket 42006 for R22/134a/404A or the yellowjacket 42004 for R22/404A/410A or both? I plan on working on residency but never know. What should i do? Get both or which one would be better? Thank you
rafael marquez I’d get the ones that do R22/404A/410A . Especially most residential and commercial ac now will be 410A. Eventually you’ll end up with multiple sets of gauges anyway haha
@@Cscrefandhvac hahahahha that's what i imagine, that at the end i would end up with many, but i was not sure. Hahahhaa Thank you for the video and the replies men really appreciate it and helpfull 100% supported!!
I am a Junior in highschool working in Hvac at a career and technology center and all the things in the video I already had in my toolbox except for the mirror and the light
@@Cscrefandhvac okay sir I'm sorry. I'm from Philippines and my area here doesn't have ice plant I'm planning to build my own ice plant & trying to figure out how to do it. Hehe thank you sir.
Thanks Mike , I like it a lot man it has 3 different light settings . I wanted to get the rechargeable one but at the time I didn’t want to spend 70$ on it. Hahahha.
I just watch this for the second time and realize you're wearing a Bentleys hat..... Wife and I have been there a few times great place. And no she does not have anything hanging from the ceiling. Well not that I know of anyway. 🤣
Younis Layth Hahahah usually man I just buy my lunch and if I do bring my lunch it’s sandwich’s and stuff that don’t need to be heated . A lot of times out on the road doing service or whatever there is nowhere to heat your food hahah .
We have the most expensive trade in the industry as far as tools are concerned. Thousands and thousands of dollars just to start out. People have no idea. White for paint pens.. good for belts! Get some pistol grip needle nose.. you'll love them!
Superhydrophobic Coating yes you have to have your own tools . Companies will supply some of the bigger tools like tech wry machines and vacuum pumps etc . But the techs have to have their own tools yes
Michael Lee this is just a starter video. Not getting into expensive tools. This is meant for new guys where they’d be working with someone else who would already have those things to teach them how to use them
