      It took a while to make this video cus I was like… I know this but how do I explain it lol. There’s like a web of stuff that stems from pressure and I need to make it coherent

    I love discussions like these. There's an old old old magic article called "who's the beat down" and it discusses who is supposed to be applying the pressure and who is supposed to be countering the pressure in any given match up. Great content keep it up

    I think this was a great video for trying to explain "pressure" to new players. I think the term used for this concept in most card games is more or less tempo. If you are controlling the tempo of the game, you are the player that is making actions that forces behaviors out your opponent so I believe that is more or less what you are explaining here. But it is very difficult to articulate, good stuff!

    This was so informative. As a newer player to OP but also really good at games I knew a lot of this from my MTG days. Hearing it and confirming my theories helps a lot in justifying why I make the plays I do in game. Especially the note about Blockers being both Defensive and Offensive options at the right times. I try to help my friends understand these things so they can be better too. I will be sharing this video with them. You did a great job explaining everything in a simple and easy to understand manner.

    This is a fantastic video! Really well done!!! I wanted to add something that you kind of touched on but didn’t get into too much. Card advantage is huge in a game like this. I (like I think many) come from and mtg background and just like there you play drastically differently based on what could be in your opponent’s hand. That’s one of the reasons 1-drop searcher’s are so good: they give you a body on the board as well as keep your hand stocked with either counters or something else you might need at a later time!

    • @heartpiratestcg
      @heartpiratestcg 7 місяців тому

      Yeah this is another game where you have to keep that in mind because if your opponent counters with multiple 1ks instead of 2k it gives you perfect knowledge into their hand. It helped me win my local tournament today against pluffy keeping that in mind.

    I’m playing purple Luffy this set and the points you’ve made make a lot of sense. I lost out on a winner pack by one game against sakazuki last night simply because I was pressured into applying early pressure. Doing things like playing Kaido and sheep’s horn mid game to deal with blockers and go at life while having no board or game plan to close the game. The sakazuki player DID have a ton of removal and managed to remove my Kaido as well as the queen I played to keep myself alive but at that point he had a board with a Rebecca and tsuru blocker, Lucci, etc while I had zero board presence (he was at zero life with 3 cards in hand) so there was no way to get back into it even at two life

    I used to play cardfight vanguard, I'd say I was competitive but I never took note of opponents hand size or cards I know they have or any types of concepts.
    Now playing one piece I've kinda instinctively keep track of their cards I know of, knowing the terms going wide or high, knowing when I can go lethal or drain their resources. I honestly haven't had so much fun playing a card game in ages

    • @fanboymikey22

    • @liri7184
      @liri7184 6 місяців тому

      @@J-roll1Honestly it might just be burnout. I felt like that about Vanguard from time to time, and I've never quit the game, but instead take a couple month-long breaks from time to time.
      Right now I still like it as much as OP or even more, but I certainly just leave it to the side at times.

    I guess that explains why my Betty games into Saka are so free half the time. Saka wants a clean board. Betty gets triggers out of life and has some rush as well as blocker evasion. Plus Karasu is disgusting. It's so easy to pressure with that deck.

    • @samuelschriber9348

  • @djphxsuns2935

    Related to pressure, but how do I know when to swing life vs attack into their characters and try to control the board state.
    I find it confusing to know which (as long as it isnt a bad don investment to swing over their power levels).
    I naturally want to attack their board so they dont crack back and hopefully burn some cards out of their hand in the process. But will this create less pressure? And end up losing me the game?
    I gather from your video that swinging good numbers into their life is how you create pressure, should I be thinking about this, rather than attacking board?
