Great tutorial as always. 🙂 Nature has some great tools for spattering too. Small bunches of pine needles, various types of grasses, twigs, stems, etc.
I might have realized it if I thought it through, but it's great to know that the wetter the tool the larger the spatter drops. Very helpful video - Thanks, Lindsay!
Who knew??! You I guess. 😄 I had no idea there were so many techniques. Good to know. I’m not an artist (or I may have known about this) , but I do like to do mixed media back grounds for scrap pages. I will be using this info from now on. Thx!!
Thank you for this demonstration! I'm new to art stuff like this, and am trying to learn how to speckle ink or paint onto the edges of the pages on a closed book. That rotating bottle brush looks like what I need to try, and had never heard of them. Looks awesome!
Very helpful video, Lindsay! I was planning experimenting on this on my own and now you saved me the trouble. The brush with the "cork" is phenomenal and my favorite. Thanks a lot :)))
Thank you so much! Been trying to make the tooth brush do it all, with little success. The orange-spatter done with the tool almost looked air-brushed And is just what i was looking for. 👍👍👍👍👍💜
I think a well-thought out, controlled spatter technique can add much to a composition. Unfortunately, I think it is being overused by many artists in ways that adds nothing to the painting and, in many cases, ruins the mood or effect of the image. It becomes just another random technique thrown onto an image because the artist can't think of anything else to do and thinks it might "add texture" or "interest." Which it almost totally never does. Ugh. I like the use of splatters shown here because they have a purpose and relate to the images in the painting. Thank you for the video!
toothbrush in the dishwasher!! Of course why didn't I think of that. I run my sponge through the dishwasher too so why not? Also, you are really good at doing hands. Is that your hand sketchbook?
I used to dance around my back yard and splatter paint! (Aaaahhhhhh, the younger days!) I had some hanging in a restaurant in Abq. They told me several ppl asked them where they got their Jackson Pollak's!!! I had to look him up bc I'd never heard of him (ugh! the younger days!) Totally agree w Lindsay! Practice with several types of materials to find what works best for you!!!

Take care. As someone we know will say keep on crafting 👍
Thanks for this! I tend to be a control freak and have use a ball embossing tool or cotton swab to get controlled drops when I was creating a card background. It's especially good when trying to get controlled color blends. I'm working on the control/perfection thing. :)
Lindsay, how cool that we can add our own effects more naturally than with a stamp pad, for some that works fine but nice to know that there are so many options. Im waiting for my splatter tool from the site of one of your recent posts! I also ordered brushes as they were also on sale. Thank you for the great tips, Always!!!!
Thanks Lindsay. Oh man I frequently forget about spattering the background. Should have used it on a piece today. How many years until I remember everything I should? Better be soon before senility sets in. I'm getting up there.😉👍💜💜
Yeah I'm the first one watching!!! Thank you for your tips, I'd probably use the retired toothbrush, or a brand new one for a buck at the Dollar Tree. No snow here, why am I not surprised, LoL. Take care and God bless. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I don’t know about environmentally friendly in the long run. I bought a Russian military coat last winter. It’s like 60 years old and not sitting in some dump. Made with sheep lining (there is no synthetic material that exists that’s even close to being as warm as sheep) so it held up threw the years. Probably kept many people warm in that time. Still looks great. A plastic coat you probably wouldn’t get 10 years of use out of it. And often plastic that makes coat, bags and things like that are very a complicated plastic so it’s hard to reuse or recycle. So like your plastic brush, it probably won’t hold up threw the years. Well maybe a brush but definitely not a coat. And my coat is still being used and not in the ocean. It really depends on what product your talking about but plastic usually doesn’t hold up well so you might as well get a sweet Russian military coat that will last you years and years. Instead of a plastic one that’s not as warm and won’t last as long and end up in the trash. My coat is older then my parents it’s kind of funny
Love the video, not too many videos specific to brushes, or splatter, or using a ruler guide. Thanks good examples.

Fantastic video! Thank you for the knowledge.

Awesome!! Thank you for the tips. I'm a new subscriber. Heard of you from Maremi Small Art.
Where did you got the second last tool?
Amazon amzn.to/3tbpGBv or
amzn.to/3RE71Yt
Where can you find the brush you used with the orange color?
There is a Kemper Spatter Brush on Amazon.
😀
How can I create a similar splatter that’s on a jaw breaker
Make a mask/stencil to protect all but the jawbreaker and use a toothbrush to spatter paint
@@thefrugalcrafter i wanted to make the je breaker texture on fabric
I thought it was splatter
