How To Make An Indoor Tornado In 3 Easy Steps!

  • In this incredible science experiment I'll show you how to make an indoor tornado in a few easy steps! I'll show you how to make a giant tornado out of dry ice and show you how to do it in a few easy steps using only dry ice a fan and warm water! I bought a large industrial fan and a lot of dry ice and flipped the fan upside so that the suction will pull the "smoke" carbon dioxide upwards and create a vortex!
Guva Juice tried to make an indoor tornado and Steve Spanger did it as well as a random college class made whats probably the world's largest indoor tornado! Links below...Here's how to do it - Put the dry ice in warm water and you'll see alot of vapor form...then put the fan upside down on top of it and you'll see the suction start to make a tornado from the carbon dioxide. To see more weather related science experiments check out this play list:

The problem: your boiling air mass has no initial angular momentum. Try setting two fans on the ground to start the vortex, like a figure skater’s arms, then use the industrial fan to draw the updraft-which then draws surrounding air into the tornado. 8:04

The fan being pointed at the ceiling is ending the air along the top of the room and down the wall with no place to go is then hampering your attempts at an uninterrupted flow of smoke. Outside on a 0 wind hot day day will see better results. Also please ask your wife to be careful with long hair and fans x

the problem you had was turbulent air creating eddy currents in the room, to get a twister you need a laminar flow of air, it would help if you vented the turbulent air outside the room via ducting hose then you will get a much better twister,

Fans are pointed too far inward. They should be pointed along a circle. The updraft fan will pull the air together.

There are two primary types of tornados: wedge-shaped condensation driven tornados, and tube/stovepipe-shaped deposition driven tornados.
The simulations here simulate tube/stovepipe-shaped deposition driven tornados.

In the college students video they had fans on the ground. Maybe if you try a few at different angles, it will create a circular movement. Also, cold air goes down, hot goes up, you want it to go up...

You have it all wrong man.
Have you ever made fire or get a charocol going? Remember? You put a pipe right over the fire and watch it take off.
The heat goes in the pipe and creates a heated air in the pipe. That hot air inside the pipe has low pressure and it rises, The air outside rushes in and get sucked into the pipe. You can hear the air as it goes into the fire and up through the pipe like a wind turbine of an airplane.
Now you simply take that idea.
    Here is what you do:
Make a tube using some sort of card board or whatever. With its diameter a little larger than your smoke box. And say 4 feet long of a pipe. Design your pipe so that at mid section it's diameter is half to a quarter of its size. This way it will cause a venturi effect. The air rushes in to pass through that mid section. Hang the pipe few feet above your smoke box. and watch what happens.
If you want to speed up the process, put a fan above on top of your pipe and bingo.
    Cheers.

So you were dispersing a bunch of c02 into your house? Are you completely sure this is safe? I mean dry ice indoors is normally gone because all the c02 falls to the ground but doing this is directly mixing it with5he oxygen and just seems really unsafe.
