What I don’t understand is if pip is increased then that increase goes to mobility - how is that possible in a financial contract ?

I agree with this because every year the amount increases but yet motability operations Take the full amount off you which is completely wrong, I do believe it is in their terms of conditions when you sign so there allowed to do this.
It shouldn't be allowed as no normal finance agreement works that way why should they get more ?

It's a good podcast this. It's essential for certain people to claim and use a car to be able to move about without having to struggle on a train or bus/ What they should be doing is having a certain type of car so that it should save them money in the long run . Great point when you say that some of your PIP/benefits are taken away if you choose to get a mobility vehicle. It's a good one this for debate as you have said the prices do vary and it really does need to be overhauled to save the government money but at the same time it should also be there to give those of us who wish to apply for it the option.

It needed to be addressed most definetly mate, people think PIP cars are free and its far from it, those who spend £2000 upwards on the initial upfront cost lease it's up to them personally i wouldn't and i think its limiting people on certain cars now, not everyone has loads in their bank and if they do the dwp wanna know why haha

@@DynamicDuoUK This is what I found on Google, don't know if it's correct or not: The CEO of Motability Operations, Mike Betts, had a salary of £1.7 million in the past. Additionally, he received a bonus of £2.2 million, making his total remuneration £3.9 million.
Mike Betts was the chief executive of Motability Operations, a company that provides cars to people with disabilities. He came under fire in 2018 after it was revealed that he was in line for a £2.2 million bonus, on top of his annual salary of £1.7 million. This sparked widespread criticism, with MPs describing his pay package as “totally unacceptable”.
      Resignation and Rehire
In response to the backlash, Mike Betts resigned from his position as chief executive of Motability Operations in 2018. He was set to leave the company by May 2020. However, in 2021, it was reported that Betts had been rehired by Motability Operations, with a new contract worth £3,000 per day.
      Legacy
Despite the controversy surrounding his pay package, Mike Betts was credited with turning around the business and making it more profitable. He was also praised for his dedication and passion for the company. However, his departure from the company in 2020 marked the end of his 16-year tenure as chief executive.

As soon as this election's over i will be making a formal complaint about the motability scheme to the new govt rep' because signing on to it and taking lessons/test results in me being obliged to take a lease car when i just want to pass my test and save for my own second hand car. This impedes my chance at mobility and therefore is in contravention of the 2010 equality act, as well as EU and UN declarations. I want to not rely on taxis and i want to go and see my dad while he's still around, what's wrong with that?

The problem one of my neighbours had was with his motability scooter. The amount of times he's had his scooter break down in a short space of time and was told it would not be replaced until 3 years were up and yet he still had deductions from his PIP for a scooter that didn't work. Thankfully he had someone help fight his corner to get the motability people to get him one that worked. I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem.

    Hi Cars and Rich-
My mobility scooter was returned because of the last time I used it the toggle on the tiller broke into two pieces because of the metal has been downgraded to the quality that makes it appear as if you initially look at it the optics are deceptive. It looks like a very stylish mobility scooter, but I have been using the same make and model of mobility scooter (the TGA Vita S) for over 12 years, and the last two scooters are not only outrageously expensive, but the last scooter’s toggle issue was returned to me only 12 days before. A few months before that my scooter had another issue with the same part of the mobility scooter and it took then almost 2 months to fix it because they were waiting for the replacement parts.
This is not the only noticeable decline in the quality of this critical part of my abilities to go places, as I have watched the quality, performance, durability and safety. This mobility scooter should be in the news. If this was any other scooter, pram, bicycle, moped, scooter, automobile or wheelchair there would be outrage from the public because they are making these scooter costs skyrocket in price while compromising the safety. My previous mobility scooter, that was the identical make and model, almost created a lethal outcome. As I was riding on the tarmac on a very busy street the tiller (steering column), which also controls your speed and direction (forward/back) snapped off and landed in my lap and I was unable to do anything but hope that the scooter was not about to become my coffin.
I have been in contact with Motability, as I had to wait four hours for Motability’s recovery service to come to retrieve me and the vehicle, and when their dealer eventually sent a loaner scooter the floor if the scooter was in a dreadful condition, unsafe to drive, and I was barely able to drive it until the right rear tyre burst. That was the last straw for me.
I have been waiting for the franchise owners to sign off that lease because of its so poorly made that they are in their repair garages. I have surrendered their scooters, which would allow me to test drive other mobility scooters. They have been stalling and refusing to do anything about getting me a new mobility scooter, even though I have paid a penalty for ending my 3-year lease on this piece of crap, and I feel like I am back in Covid shielding.
    And it gets far worse.
In my city we have millions of tourists that visit, and because of it being a World Heritage Site I need to use the tarmac, as that’s safer due to its larger size and its higher top speed of 8mph, but there’s also a huge setback for these scooters. Almost all Class 2 and Class 3 mobility scooters are unable to use public transportation due to their size. Class 1, which are limited to use on pavement, are extremely small, have a maximum speed of 4mph and a very limited range. This range is also impacted by the topography and by the temperature outside. Even a Class 3, which can reach a 20-30 mile range for the Class 3, can plummet to as low as one or two miles whenever the temperature drops below 5C. Imagine that you are able to get onto a train, coach or bus for an excursion to another place, and then because you have a Class 1 scooter. How are you going to charge your scooter? Also remember that the cost of charging your mobility scooter greatly increases your electric tariffs.
Mobility scooters are also deemed as a nuisance and are frequently refused entry due to their size. Rail service is our best option, but that service is the most expensive form of transportation in the UK when you look at the price of other countries throughout Europe, and the train companies refuse most people that have larger mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs because they have refused to provide access for mobility scooters. An able-bodied passenger can bring on their large bicycles and rucksacks without an issue, but for many people who are disabled we are hit by higher costs and so many restrictions that can turn your mobility needs into a feeling that you are shackled to your limited range and missing out on being able to afford or be able to attend events that matters to us. Imagine having to miss funerals, weddings, visits to family and friends and to important meetings that are not within your range of travel.
So I am stuck at my home without a scooter and unable to get to do anything but wait for Motability to repair their crap modes of transportation that they are still taking out of my benefits for nothing. The Motability Scheme looks like we are getting great benefits from visually appealing aids we need to get out and about, but in fact they’re just providing the illusion that we are getting something that makes us feel hated by the public because they mistakenly link us to those that are hiring the electric scooters that can reach speeds of 30mph, and mopeds that ignore our Laws as they deliver meals from expensive sites like Just Eat and Deliveroo. It sucks!
It would be wonderful to get out and meet people or to be able to shop at a market where we can save money at more affordable shoppes, but I am spending so much of my disability award that’s giving me nothing. Ordering online for delivery is not without the delivery fees, and you’re unable to see when there’s an offer that’s not shown or available on their website! If you need to buy clothes or items for your home and you need to return the item you will be charged for the delivery fees frequently for the delivery and the return, with many companies only accepting returns if you send it back via a delivery service that you have to pay for the shipping costs for both directions. That can easily cost you £10 or more. We don’t have loads of money to spare, so you better be ready to reduce your spending because if you need to return it you are going to spend money that could be spent on your everyday needs.
And then the public think that having to claim benefits is a choice. I don’t think that they are seeing the full picture. They’re just seeing what the corporate owned and controlled media portrays us to be.

  • @jeannetteralph2816
    @jeannetteralph2816 6 місяців тому +1

The reason the amount of upfront payments has gone up is because cars are more expensive to manufacture now. I have no idea why this is. So this means, the amount of pip you get does not cover the cost of the 3 year lease of the car. So they charge you more upfront to cover the total cost. I was with Vauxhall Motability for 15 years and loved the new Grandland X. But when I wanted it again for my next car, I couldn’t afford the upfront payment. It went from £695 to £2795 upfront in the three years. Needless to say, I’ve not got a Vauxhall now. The least the government could do is to subsidise the upfront payments for people who desperately need a vehicle. If I didn’t have a car on the Motability scheme, I wouldn’t be able to afford a car and therefore I’d be trapped at home with no way of leaving the house for all my medical appointments.

@@Buddingrose you can only change your car every three years on the scheme. Yes they loose value. This is why it’s all gone up as they account for some of those loses. They get some of the loses covered. How do you think the scheme would work if they didn’t get enough money back? There is no way the garages could afford to run the scheme if they didn’t get help from somewhere. Where does the good condition bonus money pot at the end of the lease come from? Plus they sell them on afterwards as well and get some of the money back. You can also extend your lease to five years if you want or buy the car at the end it.

And you can buy your car when your lease is up! But I worked it out that I paid £17,000 over 5 years for my last Motability WAV then they wanted £7,000 to buy the car outright!

Hi Rich, concerned if labour govt decide to remove options of Motab because of replacement of cash with vouchers! Annoyed labour got in. Hate tories and politics in general. They should (government) actually have people who have physical disabilities in their cabinet….accountants for the chancellors job…..someone from the transport industry (trains/trams and busses)….you get the idea. I’m annoyed as you have already given examples of the rising cost of Motab vehicles advanced payment. The other thing I have noticed is that they (Motab) are reducing the number of low vehicles. I’m only 4’10” I can’t get into a puma because it’s too high up, same as the Audi a1…. They are also limiting the number of automatic veh’s available with at would meet my needs. Can’t agree more, it took me years to save up the money I needed to be able to purchase the car. Also it’s a mild hybrid. There was no other option. I never wanted a battery on board that was to power the engine, like these sodding “skateboards” they’re all peddling. I don’t want one of those either. I was quite happy with my mk6 golf, but didn’t have the money to buy it after my lease had ended and could not find an insurer prepared to insure my adapted vehicle either……gave up on that idea. You find yourself a nice vehicle and like it but are forced to change it every 3 years! 😠
As and when labour introduce vouchers, there won’t be a Motab scheme for disabled people to use. They want us all as prisoners and hidden, but at the same time are going to force us into the workplace where no one will employ us because we are too high risk and will cost too much to employ. Disabled people will lose the lifeline of a pittance that is paid now and we will go hungry, lose our homes and be forced onto the streets where we will die. No one really cares. If you’re disabled “we don’t want you!” That is essentially the message but they can’t say it because it’s not PC. BOLLOX to PC. Truth and honesty should prevail.

    • @DynamicDuoUK
      @DynamicDuoUK  6 місяців тому

Hi, thanks for your message. Sorry I've took so long to respond, I've just been thinking actually so nothing has been said about vouchers or anything for a labour government. That was definitely a Tory idea.
What I'm thinking is that technically those who have the higher entitlement of pip are already in some respect using a virtual voucher of a set amount of £310! A month in exchange for a car
So it wouldn't surprise me if for the motability section they only offer a lower monthly repayment or an option for a vehicle going forward.
If that's the case, they would certainly need to lower The upfront costs because a lot of people cannot afford it and like you rightly said a lot of these vehicles are not suitable for people.
Thanks for the comment. Sorry again, I've not been in touch. I'm still a bit poorly so I'm on and off all week x

I’m on Motability and I’ve recently had to change to automatic. Due to having a wheel chair and struggle to get into and out of a standard car so I need a suv… as you know the prices are high !
I had to go for a grant and due to nerve damage in my feet and legs the car needs to have heated seats which makes the price even higher. Very happy to be accepted but the offer only had 1 suv with one of the main issues a addressed
The car has very poor visibility through the rear view mirror due to it being positioned to low and the reversing camera view terrible.

so you have to pay an upfront cost.. for a car which you're not allowed to keep.. then you've also got to supliment your own money into that, and also get the whole of your motorbility taken away from you, like you said £300 a month.. which equated to around £3600 ..
so the cars not even yours after that? doesn't make sense.

Some of the vehicles on the scheme cost around 40k to purchase outright without the likes of insurance, road side assistance and tyres and stuff so it could work out cheaper for some people if they want to get an expensive car I see that side of it.
Sometimes a cars just a material object I guess right ?
I do think they should allow the options to purchase after 2 years rental if I'm honest as I'm sure some people would do it

@@DynamicDuoUK 40k sat on the forecourt.. then as soon as it's off it's worth half that.
Still £12k spent for nothing to show over 3 years is an absolute sham to be honest. Some people just want 4 wheels to get about.
It seems also this is used as a way to show that disabled people are getting fat wedges of cash from the government to make those that are hard working jealous. Even though the disabled "own nothing and will be happy" Apparently by the sounds of it.

Motability wants those renting vehicles to get an EV or hybrid vehicles. They are trying to discourage renters from getting a petrol or diesel vehicle even though manufacturers only have to sell just over 20% of vehicles that are EV's. The dealers might tell someone who wants a diesel or petrol vehicle that the model they want isn't available or that the manufacturer isn't producing them. Are Motability getting those who get the diesel/petrol variants subsidising those who are choosing those who opt for an EV's and getting them for no deposit. My first Motability vehicle was just £99 deposit. I just looked on their site and I couldn't find the vehicle model I had in 2008 which was a VW Polo 1.4.
I seriously think those opting for ICE vehicles are having to subsidise those who choose an EV or hybrid as the EV is around £8,000 to £10,000 more than the ICE version of a similar spec.
