"James told me there's an old saying here on Earth: 'May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.' Not sure if Turian Heaven is the same as yours, but if this goes sideways and we both end up there, meet me at the bar. I'm buying."-Garrus Vakarian, 2186 AD
I just had that conversation with him a few hours ago.. man every time I finish this game it’s always sad and hurts like it’s the very first time I played through this game series. There’s no Shepard without Vekarian ❤️
+Vakarian My Shepard's already got a bottle of Turian Brandy on hand in the hospital bed waiting for the Normandy to return to her captain and her Crew to have the biggest party ever seen in the history of the Galaxy. I chose Destroy and I live damn it!
+Mel Thorn MassErffect chamged my life for sure. Maser chief was always my number one in a shooter, but for an rpg......Shepard all the way. I cry every time I here the music from mass effect because I know there is no way of ever getting my Shep back ;(
I felt so bad when i played my full Renegade playthrough and i just kept shooting him in the back as he was trying so hard to go cure the genophage. :(
Shepard: "You Gotta get out of here." Tali: "I can't stay behind" Shepard: "Don't argue with me Tali." Tali: "Don't leave me behind..." Shepard: "I need you to make it out of here alive, Tali....Get back to Rannoch. Build yourself a home." Tali: "I have a home...come back to me..."
That was geniuinely heart-wrenching the first time, and still is even after a dozen playthroughs. For all the places they dropped the ball in that romance arc in 3, this was one of the places that they kind of got it right. Was a good (missed) opportunity for Shep to drop the three words back to her though.
"Easy words from an ancestor we never heard a whisper from until today." - How a smartass like myself would have likely responded to Javik's audacity...
+Osman Velat Kabak (TasteThePumpkin) i feel the same way in most games when i get the option to be evil i take it but not mass effect i can't do it because i would lose these characters i love
exactly this! I've done at least 10 playthroughs of the series, all of them I went paragon. Just could not bring myself to hit some of those renegade options
The only reason i actually did several renegade/mixed playthroughs was to enjoy all the voice acting and the sequences in the trilogy, but morally i could never harm the crew as you said.
Frozen Wrath I once did a ME3 renegade run. When it came for certain decisions like Legion or Tali...too painful. Honestly glad there was a third door for that one.
So you’ll never hear Shepard saying “You big stupid jellyfish” to the preaching Hanar until ME3 Or the intimidating “I wonder what sound you’ll make before you hit the ground. Will you hear it?” In ME2
Anderson: "Feels like years since i just...sat down." Shepard: "I've think you've earned a rest." Shepard: "Anderson?" Anderson: "You did good son,You did good,I'm proud of you..." Shepard: "Anderson?" I fucking cried....
@@ariannay.v.3301Tali - when she is injured on the run to the beacon up to the citadel at the end. If she is your romantic partner Sheppard tells her she needs to stay, go to her home planet, build a home. That's her reply.
Both Tali and Garrus’ final goodbyes to their respective Shepard are some of most emotionally gut-punching scenes and line deliveries I’ve experienced from any game or media in general. The others were fine, but they just don’t hold a candle to how emotional those two get when Shepard leaves them on the Normandy; all that tacked onto the fact that Tali and Garrus are the characters closest to Shepard out the entire crew.
@@beeziebubs2756 Liara's simple statement of "I am yours" is actually just as powerful a statement. It just isn't as dramatic in the moment as the others. It's highly likely Liara saw Shepard as THE love of her life, and I wouldn't be surprised that in a canon where she and Shepard were lovers, that she never takes another lover despite her astronomically long lifespan.
Goodbye Ash Goodbye Legion Goodbye Thane Goodbye Mordin Goodbye Anderson "It's hard enough fighting a war. But it's worse knowing no matter how hard you try... you can't save them all." -Commander Shepard
Never played the Mass Effect games before until Legendary Edition. I have to say this series now ranks as one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. The story, characters, lore were so interesting and kept me engaged the whole time.
Same here. Played it for the first time this spring. It kept me on the edge of a seat for the whole month that I played it through. Totally my number 1 game *trilogy*
Fun note: The last minute or so of this song is a rewritten version of “From the Wreckage”, the song that plays while Shepard appears from the wreckage at the end of ME1. Some might even say that this foreshadowed that Shepard was still alive, even before the extended cut was released.
How is it possible? How is it possible that I played this trilogy more than 10 times and it still makes me tear up? I know what's going to happen. I know it had to be Mordin - someone else might have gotten it wrong. I know Thane's wish is for me. I know Legion has a soul. I know Anderson is proud of me. I played it, over and over. I know we've had a damn good ride - the best... How is it possible for a trilogy of videogames to make me feel so much?
I know! Played the trilogy through when it was originally released 2012, been coming back now and again to listen to this final piece and it always brings back the feeling and the chills. So epic journey and "I finally did it (with an awe)" is going through mind.
When Shepard said "It's hard enough fighting a war. But it's worse knowing no matter how hard you try... you can't save them all.", it reminded me of my uncle who said something very similar after he quit the police force when he wasn't able to negotiate with a criminal and three hostages died. It haunts him to this day.
It's why we love mass effect. It allows us to feel ways we couldn't normally feel. Your uncle did his best and Shepard would be proud of him for his service, and for trying. We all are. I hope your uncle has found peace
Even though the ending could have used some work, this is still one of my favorite franchises of all time. Out of ANY game, have I ever felt more of an impact and connection to fictional characters. This is why I occasionally come back to the soundtracks.
Dave Jackson Witcher 1 is the worst of the three games, however I'd say its a classic with flaws and is fun if you're into the Witcher series. Witcher 2 has a good story and improves a lot on the first game in terms of visuals and game mechanics plus i found it enjoyable. It's true that you don't need those games to get into Witcher 3, however it helps. If you have time to spare and want to get into the Witcher universe (which is very in-depth and interesting) then i'd recommend getting the previous games. However if you'd rather just get straight into Witcher 3 and not spend time i the previous 2 games id just recommend finding a youtube video that explains everything up to Witcher 3 so atleast you know what is going on, as it can be a little overwhelming getting into the whole universe. There are many good videos out there explaining the events of the previous games and even events before the games.
I have played all 3 games of the Witcher and also every Mass Effect game and I must say, THERE IS NOTHING so emotional as Mass Effect franchise, not even The Witcher. Bioware made hell of a work. :)
Taco1011 That's just the music talking. The ending is still the same with plot holes as far as the eye can see, like the destroy option for example Shepard is still alive but Bioware later states that ME4 has nothing to do with Shepard.....Then why the hell show him alive in the destroy ending if ME4 has nothing to do with Shepard?
lparker7 Well for one, the Destroy ending isn't the canonical ending. So most likely, Shepard will be dead in ME4 still. And who knows when ME4 will even take place anyway. I can't imagine anything comparable in scope happening in the galaxy for a while after the end of ME3, so ME4 could be 100's if not thousands of years in the future or take place before the events of the original ME trilogy.
it fricken well WAS if not in vain then at least pointless if you secure both fleets. jesus christ, couldn't legion just make a backup of the code and share it or something. fricken glowing ball techno mumbo jumbo fricken mass effect fricken... i'll never get over legion's death. i'm still angry.
"There's all these stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everyone loves happily ever after..... But the hero, never gets to see they ending, they'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference, they'll never know if the day was really saved....... In the end, they just had to have faith......" -RvB
Video games have to be special to make me cry. And I don't mean a single tear, I mean genuine cry. Mass Effect 3's ending was that. I know, it's a shitty ending compared to other games out there but this music, combined with the grey flashbacks of all your past squadmates smiling at you just broke me.
I agree, the music was incredible with the shots of lost crew members and your love interest that your leaving behind. The rest of it was generic until they redid the endings, but the music and the beloved characters are unforgettable
Even though it killed the character we loved, I think we can all agree it was an emotional send off. That might be bad but for me the ending was one of the best because of that.
I remember when I first started hearing this, as Shepard jumped into the energy stream (yeah I went synthesis for my first ending) and it hit me. This was the end of a three game, five year journey. At that moment I was overcome, and I am unashamed to say I broke down crying. I was so invested in the universe that....realizing it was over was like being hit by a freight train of emotion. Thank you, Bioware, for making such a memorable, awesome game series, and here's to future adventures. It was a good ride, Shepard. The best.
I would never say it is the best ending. Rather, it is the best ending of what is available. The other 3 endings just plain suck in their results and repercussions. Destroy kills the Geth. Control goes against everything Shepard fought for. Refusal is pointless and wimpy.
All these feels. I can't hold them. I remember the first time that I finished the game, with my very first character I had in the series. During and after the ending sequence, I started to cry like a baby. And I still do every time I play this game. Mass Effect has a way of showing us human nature, even through aliens. It's a story of struggle and pain and sacrifice. A story of what we go through to get what we want. That unalienable desire to not only survive, but to thrive. And it had to be Shepard. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
We have true insight. We can sit back and let the world flow. Watch in silence, only commenting to ourselves. You should try it sometimes. Just let others do their thing, just watch. Just listen.
Well put. I may dislike certain parts of the ending (mainly how no matter what choices are made throughout the series they don't impact the ending greatly) but I felt that it was fitting for Shepard to die in order to preserve life. He lived up to his namesake. Great series.
***** Sometimes, it is not about where we end up, but rather the journey we take to get there. It is the human experience. To find our way through our brief existence. Remember that.
Damn I just finished the whole Mass Effect Trilogy last week and had to come listen to this again. My Shepard was a broken man who lost his parents to slavers, lost his brothers to threshers, lost dear friends and comrades on his journey. Yet despite all the pain he carried he always did the right things, and in the end it was a broken man that fixed a broken galaxy. Will never forget these games.
We had a same shepard, i remember feeling really bad for him, when on some dialogue and some answer, he just looked so... Empty, his tone of voice, the look in the eyes. And that's how in a few details, we can see how destroy a man can be. Bioware did Art with Mass Effect and Dragon Age
I went on a walk today in Syracuse's Oakwood cemetery. There's a lot of Civil War era officers buried there. Every headstone was marked with a name, first and last, rank and dates of life....all but one....which simply read "Shepard."
This game is actually cruel, I mean... It touches you so emotionally... No game does it that way. This game literally plays with your emotions, with everything you've been through throughout this trilogy. I played the entire trilogy about 40 times an I still didn't know why ME3 was so special for me. Now, with the LE and all the dlcs, I realized why ME3 is and will be my favorite videogame of all time: it plays with you emotionally on all sides, in every possible way. I nearly cried even in the final battle with all the fleets, not only because it is one of the best scenes that could have been made in a video game, also because of that feeling of anger, despair and revenge, the feeling of "it ends here, at all cost"... hard to explain. If I almost cried in that scene, imagine for the rest of the game. This game is cruel... And that's why I love it.
The feeling "I want to fuck them up so bad" this scene gave me was so good when I saw reapers falling dead in destroy ending. I hope they didn't die instantly, I hope they felt the fear and the aknowledged fact they've lost. They were finally beaten by the ones they depsised so much.
So much time and effort spent into this beautiful trilogy.... So much bonding with characters and friends.... So much decisions and problems, but so many beautiful and wonderful outcomes.... The journey stops here, to an end, once and for all.
vinniy32 nah vinny, they confirmed a ME4 but it wont continue this series. Shepard's story is over but a new ME game is confirmed and will be released 2016
sadasdsadasdasdasify Apparently its going to be in an entirely new galaxy as well...which is kinda a bummer, due to the fact that it felt nice to be so close to "home" in the original trilogy, that our decisions actually mattered when in regards to saving *our* galaxy.
As much as I disliked the ending, this track has to be one of the most emotive, incredibly moving pieces of game music ever created. Always has me in tears.
Regardless of how good or bad the original ending was, or even how good the actual GAMES were, when this track started to play right after I made my final choice... it is simply indescribable how it felt. No other game series I know of ever built up such a weighty culmination of investment, of backstory, of agency, of emotional depth. And in that one instant, you realized... it was all over. the dozens, even hundreds of hours spread over three games, inheriting each of your decisions and relationships - it all came down to this moment. It was a cathartic release unlike anything I’ve ever experienced from any form of media ever.
couldn't have put it better myself. This track, and the voice of Liara from the memory capsule in the refusal ending, it gives you a feeling unlike any others. You knew then that, it's all over
Never felt so emotional for a game until this one.months after ME3 released, I got the Trilogy. played all non stop for a week, High emotions after this for dayssss. when i remember me3 i feel emotion. Best game ive ever played.
+mrArchduke Replaying the series again. When I replayed 2, Garrus, Miranda, Jacob, Mordin, and Samara were the only ones that made it, and it destroyed me inside.
+Wiley Oden it's not just that that you have to worry about, you also need to upgrade your ship, and choose the right people for the specialty parts when going through the collector ship.
Davyd Arnold I know let legion go through the vents and let garrus led the fire team then let Samara do that force field part and bam mission accomplished one minor note make sure you have Enough Paragon to convince Miranda and Jack or you lose the loyalty from the person you pissed off
Mass Effect has probably one of the best communities I've seen, from what I've seen. There's very little division, even in the battles for waifus. "I like Tali", "I like Liara". People don't bash each other's choices, they respect their tastes. Because no matter who you pick, you see enough of the characters to get their appeal for other people. They didn't lock quirks and charm behind romance routes, you got to know them no matter what your relationship was with them. For example, I played a female Shepard who stuck with Liara for the whole trilogy and treated Garrus like an older brother figure. They were my A-Team. By the end of the game, the crew of the Normandy didn't feel like a cast of characters cobbled together to tick niche boxes and meet some inclusion quota. They felt like a team that had come together from a variety of circumstances, bonding over hardship, to become a family. And as the head of that family, I was heartbroken when anyone was lost. I never had a game do that to me. That is why Mass Effect will always be special to me. It was a good ride that I have every intent to take again. Keelah Se'Lai.
i finished ME3 the first time with the legendary edition.... not gonna lie...this game had me tearing up many many times in the final game of the trilogy. the beginning was so sad....the nightmare-scenes with the kid running in this burned forest...oof i lost some fcking good teammates over the games. i hated cerberus so much when they got away on thessia and for all these crucial experiments..after that i wanted to bring them down so much. slowly while playing...i realized that i might not come back when the job is finished and the reapers are gone. And on top of that, Tali made me feel like i have to do everything i can, to make sure she will get her house on Rannoch :(
@@commentsection-chan i finished it 3 times and always chose destroy ending, just because i couldnt really deal with all the other ones. synth is just something no one should choose as a single person and its just not natural imo. Control is also way to risky, no matter what. and i didnt feel like my headcanon-shep would ever do that instead of destroying them once and for all.
@@cptnhero6116I feel like if you are paragon you choose control ending simply because shepherd wouldn't sacrifice the geth to win the war. If you are renegade you choose the destroy ending, since no sacrifice is to great to defeat the enemy. The synthesis ending is just weird. The doomed ending is also really good. I feel like that ending would play really well if Sheppard lost all of his comrades in a world where he was always against him that he simply gives up. That maybe the reapers have a point
Still find it hard to let go of the series. Just started playing it again in lieu of new games. It's that good. 10 years later and I'm putting in the one that started it all again, and I can't wait to get to the part in the third one that this song plays at. Just listening to it here brings back so many memories and emotions. I don't expect to ever find any story that hits me like this one does.
Try the Dragon Age Series, same studio, epic story ; Dragon Age origins has a shitty gameplay but a great story, for DA2 it's kind of the opposite, story is still good, but you'll love it for the gameplay, not the story ; the Inquisition one is the best game I ever played, with the best story. Okay the open world was kind of a mess, but the story, I know it sounds weird, but it's ahead Mass Effect. And god knows how much I love ME.
You'd think it'd wear off after a while, y'know. That it'd get old and lose some of its impact, like every other game you play multiple times. But no. Somehow, Mass Effect is the great glitch in the code for me. I have played the Trilogy so, _so_ many times and I still feel it as if it's new on each new run I start. I cry every single time when Legion, Thane and Mordin die. When I find David hooked up to all these horrible machines, and when I find him again, happy and healthy, in Grissom Academy. When Tali sees her first sunrise on Rannoch. When Miranda finally gets to hug her sister. When Anderson says he's proud of me and Garrus tells me he'll be waiting for me at the bar. Tears, always. Every. damn. time.
Despite 3s end, this trilogy shaped multiple generations of people. Very few movies or books can claim to have the lasting effect that Mass Effect does.
Recently played and finished the ME Trilogy (Legendary Edition) for the first time. I'm usually not that into Sci Fi shooters but this game had such an amazing cast of characters. You know a game is special when you can't stop thinking about it after finishing it. And this soundtrack at the end broke me 😭. Lots of people didn't like the ending (I can understand why) but I kinda liked it. I chose the destroy ending and it felt pretty fitting all things concidered. I completely forgot that ME4 was in development too so after remember it when I beat the game I got so excited. I hope the destroy ending is canon so we can play as Sheperd again. Man, what an awesome character. Great game
This trilogy is like having a child. Shepard is your baby, you watch them grow into who they are. You watch them become an image of your design. They mess up. They let their friends die. This fucking game made me feel so fucking hard I wasn't even ready to feel that hard. I love Mass Effect, no other series is quite like it - ever.
I had the same feeling when I watched Ezio Auditore die in Assassin's Creed Embers. Going from AC2 you literally start playing from the instant he is born into his manhood and straight into his elderly years over the course of 4 games and 1 short film. Although I'm not sure what made me cry worse, Ezio's death or Shepard's sacrifice. With Ezio, I cried like I watched my parents die in front of me. With Shepard, I cried because the ending was so powerful emotionally.
I've just ended this game 2 days ago and I still feel that my heart is broken. A huge part of me stayed there in the Normandy. I hope I will have a second life so I can play it again without knowing the plot. Best game EVER. Keelah se'lai!
I said i had joined the community a year ago, but thats wrong lol. Been 2 yrs. Ive beat all of them 8 times through, with a few replays of the first and second in between that i cant count.
"It was a good fight" "A great fight" "Then go and finish it. And when you go to the sea, I will be waiting for you at the shore" *ugly sobs until the credits roll*
Kalahira, mistress of inscrutable depths, I ask forgiveness. Kalahira, whose waves wear down stone and sand. Kalahira, wash the sins from this one and set them on the distant shore of the infinite spirit. Kalahira, this one’s heart is pure but beset by wickedness and contention. Guide this one to where the traveler never tires, the lover never leaves, the hungry never starve. Guide this one, Kalahira, and they will be a companion to you as they were to me.
We knew thane was on borrowed time when we met him, but his death hurt the most to me. The only time I ever willingly selected a renegade option my first time through legendary edition was when you killed kai leng in the cerberus assault, I wasn’t prepared for how awesome that moment was and I don’t think I’ll ever regret taking that option despite being the ultimate paragon player
One hell of a game. I slept on it until march 2024, when I sat down and finished Trilogy, LE. Hard to describe, but most of us here know. Synthesis ending in ME3 LE was best ending I've ever seen in any video game. This game... Men cry.
Mass Effect. The story of a hero who even when no one supported him he always comed out the best. A man who sacrificed everything for the future of not only humanity future but for the galaxy future. Even if he is a fictional character, he is one of my life models, besides Uzumaki Naruto and my father. He is, as his name says, the Shepard of Peace. May he find peace wherever he has gone.
I remember i cried like a little girl after wathing this gray flashbacks.A gave a part of me to this game. And i think if a game can make you cry,it trully can be count as masterpiece.Thank you Bioware for this magnificent trilogy.
Your not the only one. I completed ME3 the other day and I got a little choked at the end. I remember seeing the original endings and all I remember about them was being pissed off thinking "Wait thats it?" but with the extended cut it made more sense wrapped up the trilogy nicely.
Go out and get this trilogy NOW especially with the Origin holiday sale. When you get through all three games and see the Extended Cut ending, you'll know what true feels feel like.
^Damn straight. Play the games in order though. Over the course of the three games you'll become so attached to the characters that the feels during the ME3 Extended Cut will hit you like a train. ME3 was the first video game ever to make me cry my eyes out. After spending hundreds of hours getting to know these characters and building myself as a hero, you start to see it as less of a game and more of an alternate life; those aren't just NPCs. They're friends. Family. People you care about. You also start to see Shepard as yourself, not just a digital avatar. You're not just making the final choice; you're actually sacrificing yourself to give the entirety of life in our galaxy a chance to continue. The multiplayer is fun too.
In all fairness, "The Game That Shall not be Named" had all the potential to be a good game and a worthy continuation of the series. It was simply released too soon, was unpolished and unfinished, and was never truly corrected.
@@dada13771 Yeah I played the game for 10 hours and all I did was grind with no real story. They probably should've just made THE GAME THAT WILL NOT BE NAMED it's own IP and left it out of the ME universe.
Just played this trilogy for the first time on the Legendary Edition. It’s impossible to put into words how the ending made me feel. No other game has ever made me feel this much emotion, and I’m both ecstatic and completely dread-filled to play this again for the perfect ending.
Have you ever felt like the void would get you at the end of a videogame, like you don't know what to do with your life anymore, after completing a wonderful journey like that one, sitting on your chair in your dark room, in silence?? haven't happen to me in some time, until now....thanks Mass Effect, thanks for the emotions that you awakened in me again. For everyone that has to complain about the game, learn to respect the opinions of the others, cause you may find the endings trash , but is not like that for everyone...if there's something that ME can teach us, is to respect everyone, and think that we all have different stories and points of view. And i hope to find my Liara someday, somewhere :'(
LordManux91 I had the same feelings. And after this soundtrack I feel empty again... It's the greatest videogame, although the end is sad. Hope I'd find my favourite team with Liara too :(
Me to my friend....I want to see her in ME 4. As an old Asari looking at her pic of CMDR. Aaron Shepard. And with a small asari toddler running around.
Noobkiller1705 ...returning to her computer and transfering the new data for the governments - with her special signal: All the best, the Shadow Broker
Finished ME3 again. Its so heartbreaking when the game ends. Stories like Mass Effect are just too powerful and strong, and emotional. And this music fits the story and the feelings towards the game so incredibly well. Still its difficult to see it end, to see characters you've grown to love and care for die. The hardest part for me is knowing that shepard is gone( or fate unknown with the destruction ending)
yup, lets not rant about the ending, actually... i feel that most of the rant was originated in the fact that it broke our hearts and not that it sucked, its very hard to make me cry with movies/games/etc... but ME gets me...
Shepard's death was actually the least impactful for me. I went into ME3 with like 90% expectancy of him/her dying. It just seemed fitting to me for the character and considering the circumstances and what the scenario was. I guess in a way Shepard was a vessel for me to experience the universe, story and characters. I like to think I always did what I would have done in those scenarios so in the end if my death means stopping the Reapers and saving what's left for the galaxy, it's not a hard choice for me.
I too was expecting Shepard to die, it didn't exactly come as a shock. It did feel like they were leading Shepard to die a hero's death. I do agree with you, the commander was a vessel for the player to experience this story. Maybe that's why I took it so hard, because when Shepard dies your connection to this universe is cut and the story ends for you. I just wanted it to go on. It's like we've been fighting for years to defeat the reapers, to protect a universe we've grown to love, and then when the war is won you're forced to leave this world. The story was simply too good in my honest opinion. Its like reaching the end of a fantastic book but you wish there were more pages
+Gaël Renault agree man, Commander Shepherd for me is the most facinating video game character ever. Shepherd was the man who united the races of the galaxy against the Reapers, without him, every species was doomed... can you imagine how grandiose his achievement was? If Mass Effect universe existed in real life, and Shepherd survive the Reaper invasion; I can just imagine how much pussy he'd be getting.
You can also project your personnality in his, making choices you would make that bring you closer to the character. It's a fantastic game cause the story line is almost unlimited ( direction wise).
What I always like about Mass effect is that there really are no villains.Every character in the game is doing what they think is right, none of them are "evil" for the fun of it.
There is always something about the 3rd game of many franchises. The music, oh yes. Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Mass Effect 3, and probably some others that I'm forgetting.
They better make Mass effect 4 even more mind blowing. I've beaten ME3 3 times and love it everytime. The music is awesome and the ending is so dramatic, almost makes you tear. There are truely no games like Mass effect series. It's too bad they made SWTOR an MMO and ruined the potential. =/
We lost a good man today. We shall honor his life and all he has done for us. For without him, where would we have come? I wish to commemorate his death together, and together we shall remember him. As a true friend, a hero, a legend! His tales shall be passed down from generation to generation. Let us say our final goodbyes. R.I.P. Marauder Shields.
Mass Effect isn't a game, its a journey. Its a total different experience of gaming, hell I wish it was real. I also wish that someone will delete my ME memory and I will replay the series again, just like the first time. And Garrus is my fav!
I feel happy. I have all three games, yet I have only played maybe an hour of the first game. It was so off putting to me that I never touched either of the last 2. I know I need to play them though.
Jesus Christ. It's hard to believe this is almost ten years old and Mass Effect as a franchise is basically 15 years old at this point. I think as a kid I didn't grasp how significant this franchise was. Now that I've seen sci-fi and fantasy works in both games and television, it's really hard for any piece of fiction to hit the peak that Mass Effect did. The music, the characters, the choices, the settings, the environments, the designs - this game is so perfect, the world building is perfect. I think it's easy to get caught up in outrage culture and as gamers, I think a lot of the younger audience that was raging about the ending have grown up. This was always a very deep, dark, serious game and I think a fairytale ending was never an option but at the time, this wasn't something people really associated with games I think. The general consensus is "Good guy save world, world happy, end happy." What an amazing franchise honestly, I'm so excited to replay it.
Honestly, the older I get the more I appreciate the ending. When I played it I wasnt happy about it, even though the epilogue helped a bit. But as time passes by I find myself growing more and more impressed by all the ending. They are all interesting choices even if none of them are perfect. Thats how it usually is. The only thing you get in this world is choice. Usually they are not good ones, but at least you have that freedom.
@@tzimiable Very nicely summarized. Each of the endings(except giving up) are choices, your choices. Three game slowly brought you to this point. Each of the choice will change galaxy forever. If nothing else i like that they give you choice based on your "mind". Want peace? There is a way, but you have to bring the greatest sacrifice. Want control? Do it, but you, as an individual, will be lost forever. Wanna destroy them? Sure, do it and kill every single synthetic(and it even more hideous if you gave them free will first... You give them sentience just so you can use them and then you will kill them all), and god knows how many organics, because without Mass relays they will be stranded in that specific part of galaxy, not to mention BILLIONS of years of combined knowledge, from civilizations they harvested. In the end, not one of the choice is technically good. They are kinda equally bad, but that's what makes this game unique.
@@HanithSVK This is exactly why I loved the endings mate. They made you think before picking as each had their pros and cons. I never played the ME games when I was younger and just finished them recently. I think that with the way the endings are done, it makes it even more impactful and am not entirely sure why they were not well received originally
Переигрываю всю трилогию уже раз в тридцатый, кажется что знаю каждую текстурку и... мне не надоедает! Чертовски странно, но так и есть, уникальный игровой феномен. Обожаю эту трилогию!
Shame I wasn't around when these games were new. They made me care about the characters like no other. Hell I even shed some tears when some inevitably bit the dust in the third game. Tragic how Shepard will never see Tali again.
This music is so beautiful. Hearing this as my Shepard sacrificed herself to control the Reaper and thought of Anderson, Mordin, and Thane in her final moments just broke me😭
It has been 3 years. 3 years since the great war for peace. She sits on her balcony, admiring the night sky. She takes a sip of her wine, and reads the reports she has received from the office. Reports from all over the galaxy say that the enemy has been indeed destroyed during the war, and their return is unlikely. She sighs, reading the report, because she knows in her heart, their return will surely come. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday. she puts down the tablet of reports, and looks back to the night sky. She feels herself tearing up, but stops herself. She smiles. "I miss you...." She whispers into the sky. "...Shepard." Her tablet lights up. She picks it up to see a message. *"Commander Tali'zorah vas Normandy, General Hackett has requested an Extranet meeting with you."* She smiles, and takes another sip of wine, and goes inside to answer the call.
I understand everyone was pissed off at the original ending. But the truth of every hero's story is sacrifice. And here, Shepard isn't just sacrificing himself, he is sacrificing the future he could have had with anyone. But that is what life is. Everything has an ending and every hero has to die, including you - the player. This game kind of ends with a question, how are you going to live your life now that you know even the hero of the story has to die?
Finally someone who think that it is way more epic that Sheppard sacrifice his life to save countless others. I loved then end and can't think of another ending right now. The rush of emotions this trilogy gave me is just amazing.
im not bothered about the sacrifice or that shepard dies... I was upset at the lack of care seemingy put into the ending and the plot holes and lack of information given regards each ending. I replayed recently and romanced thane and that helped improve the sacrifice SO much, but i think most fans dont mind that shepard died, they mind about the piss poor ending. Still love the games though. I also agree it is a better ending if shepard has to die in the same way i dont like everyone surviving the suicide mission - im so glad i fucked up the first time around because i was nearly in tears losing four of my guys
Ngl, this was the first time I ever played it and damn it hurts to know I missed out on this for so long. Throughout it though, my favorite part of the trilogy will be the characters. One of the first times I was able to feel affected through them. Wish it was real, cause it damn well felt like it sometimes.
“God… feels like years since I just sat down.” “I think you’ve earned a rest, Anderson. Stay with me, we’re almost through this.” “You did good, son. You did good. I’m proud of you.” “Thank you, sir. Anderson?”
It's amazing that a heavily customised character with a decision tree has so much personality. I really didn't expect Shepard to be such a deep and well written character. Paragon Broshep will always be Shepard to me. A good military man who wore the burden of the Galaxy on his shoulders. Who tried to do the right thing always, even if it cost dearly. ME3 has small bits of animation that show how broken he really is. I picked Destroy, because despite my Shepard saving the Geth, and trusting EDI with his life, it just didn't feel like he'd ever compromise with the Reapers.
fck this game was too emotionally for me i feeling this like a real person died i always get the feeling of watching the end of a sad good story when i think about mass effect 3 it's making me emo I CANT HOLD THESE FEELINGS
Jacob Knight straywolf77's statement is more apt than you think. 'Shepard' refers to 'Christ', the Shepard of the Flock. Also the Savior aspect, the fighting to unify basically everyone, the Reapers (Hordes of demons coming to extinguish life), Legion's name is a reference as well, so on and so forth. It's worth noting that Shepard is *not* Christ, but that there are similarities aside from the name, as well as similarities between Mass Effect and Christian Lore. There's a fair amount of stuff within the Mass Effect series that directly or indirectly (intentionally or otherwise, as authors have been known to do this without realizing) relates or correlates to something in the Bible. I made the parallel some time ago. It didn't ruin my perception of the story at all, just a 'huh, that's interesting' moment that came and went.
Lyra Sinclaire It should be noted that I am rarely serious. Also should be noted that I don't think too deeply. MSTK3 Mantra runs through my head all the time. He does have a point, meanwhile I shall be blowing things up.
@@tomblantz2107 I’ve played the trilogy back to back religiously for the past 7 years. I used to always to Synthesis as I believed it was the answer that the Catalyst was looking but only Shepard can deliver. But then recently I thought to myself what if it’s lying, EDI showed that she could lied when she took control of the Normandy at the beginning, and her codes are based on the Reaper’s, what if the Catalyst was lying to Shepard. The recent ME4 teaser also heavily suggested that destroy was the cannon ending so we’ll have to wait and see.
@@tranminh-hm2nk I know right? The ME4 trailer was indeed suggesting that the destroy ending was/is canon. My point in the reply to the guy’s comment: when he said he misses EDI, he’s probably implying that he chose the destroy ending. Because the destroy ending would mean the end of EDI, no? When I said “when they’re rebuilt, she can be brought back.”, I meant that it’s assumed by some fans that the mass relays and other synthetic life can be brought in back.
I just got done playing this series for the first time via the legendary edition. I knew it was a classic, but holy hell I was not expecting it to be this good. I only wish that I had gotten around to playing it back when it released. This is definitely my new favorite game series
I'm honestly glad I waited until I was an adult more in tune with his emotions. I was a teenager when Mass Effect finished, and I think I can appreciate it a lot more as a more mature person.
Watching the final moments of Anderson, Shepard's final thoughts of people close to him and Joker's 'Damn it.' really hits me in the stomach like fucking hell... Damn feels...
Destroy was the best ending. If you choose synthesis, you risk turing ever species in the galaxy to Harbringer's slaves. Really, why would HE say the truth to you, and even if he did, he didn't say that there will be no "side effects"
I know I may be a little late on this. I finished the trilogy for the first time recently. No game ever has made me feel as much as this one. First game that made me cry. Made me feel empty for finishing it. And it felt weird; but the feeling of relief when a character survives, when you save someone who had your back all the time, when you had a laugh for nostalgia's sake or a bad joke... it all felt genuine. Each character felt more than just that, a game character. It felt like a true bond. I wanted all of them to live. I wanted the best ending I could give. I wanted my Tali to be happy (yes, I chose Tali). My bro Garrus, got him a date, hehe. It felt good. It's strange. No game made me feel like this before. It's special.

That hurts. It's at this point that you realize Tali's house is where Shepard is
Both Tali and Garrus’ final goodbyes to their respective Shepard are some of most emotionally gut-punching scenes and line deliveries I’ve experienced from any game or media in general. The others were fine, but they just don’t hold a candle to how emotional those two get when Shepard leaves them on the Normandy; all that tacked onto the fact that Tali and Garrus are the characters closest to Shepard out the entire crew.

You need to try out the Witcher series then!
+ThePiachu90 I just picked up wild hunt because I read you don't have to play the first two to get the story. Should I get all three?

I don't care what people think of this game and the ending. It's still an amazing and entertaining video game to the very end for me
I think so too. It was a great game (and series) with a fitting ending.
I'm gonna stick to my guns and say that it was an alright ending. Honestly, I could care less about what people like or disliked about the ending.
lparker7 Well for one, the Destroy ending isn't the canonical ending.
***** Rumor on the grapevine is that ME4 will take place during the First Contact War.

Yes it would.
"Shit, Shepard. We've had one helluva ride."

The best.
Synthesis is the best ending (especially if you brought peace between the Quarians and the Geth), so that's perfectly fine.
I would never say it is the best ending. Rather, it is the best ending of what is available. The other 3 endings just plain suck in their results and repercussions. Destroy kills the Geth. Control goes against everything Shepard fought for. Refusal is pointless and wimpy.
The best.
forcing all of the galaxy to merge is pretty shitty. EDi and the geth are sadly a necessary sacrifice. whatever it takes to stop the Reapers
What about controlling the Reapers? No indoctrination intended
Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
icwut u did thar
Yes. Indeed.
Cool story, bro!
They were finally beaten by the ones they depsised so much.
it was never about the ending, it was about the journey
So much time and effort spent into this beautiful trilogy....
So much bonding with characters and friends....
So much decisions and problems, but so many beautiful and wonderful outcomes....
The journey stops here, to an end, once and for all.
On A Stick I hear that they are making a sequel. Last time I heard, it was in limbo. Hopefully it will tailor to your last choice, whatever it was.
vinniy32 nah vinny, they confirmed a ME4 but it wont continue this series. Shepard's story is over but a new ME game is confirmed and will be released 2016
sadasdsadasdasdasify Thank God.
sadasdsadasdasdasify Apparently its going to be in an entirely new galaxy as well...which is kinda a bummer, due to the fact that it felt nice to be so close to "home" in the original trilogy, that our decisions actually mattered when in regards to saving *our* galaxy.
On A Stick You can always return for another playthrough, Mass effect won't be gone when you return to it;)
It's not a game. It's little life
When this game ended, i felt like my life had ended too.

This game made me tear up. The comments are now, in 2015, making me tear up. God, so many good memories. Such a good fan base. I miss it all.
+mrArchduke Play it again. im on my 5th playthrough
+mrArchduke Replaying the series again. When I replayed 2, Garrus, Miranda, Jacob, Mordin, and Samara were the only ones that made it, and it destroyed me inside.
+Holli C Gain all your Squad Members Loyalty and they'll survive.
+Wiley Oden it's not just that that you have to worry about, you also need to upgrade your ship, and choose the right people for the specialty parts when going through the collector ship.
Davyd Arnold I know let legion go through the vents and let garrus led the fire team then let Samara do that force field part and bam mission accomplished one minor note make sure you have Enough Paragon to convince Miranda and Jack or you lose the loyalty from the person you pissed off
Joker fighting the controls as he fights the tears.... Man. Rips out a piece of me every time I play.
Not until you bring up ME3's endings

Furisco The ME reddit is pretty chill though
i finished ME3 the first time with the legendary edition....
not gonna lie...this game had me tearing up many many times in the final game of the trilogy.
the beginning was so sad....the nightmare-scenes with the kid running in this burned forest...oof
i lost some fcking good teammates over the games.
i hated cerberus so much when they got away on thessia and for all these crucial experiments..after that i wanted to bring them down so much.
slowly while playing...i realized that i might not come back when the job is finished and the reapers are gone.
And on top of that, Tali made me feel like i have to do everything i can, to make sure she will get her house on Rannoch :(
Welcome aboard soldier.
Keelah se'lai.
Which of the 4 endings did you get in 3?
@@commentsection-chan i finished it 3 times and always chose destroy ending, just because i couldnt really deal with all the other ones. synth is just something no one should choose as a single person and its just not natural imo. Control is also way to risky, no matter what. and i didnt feel like my headcanon-shep would ever do that instead of destroying them once and for all.
@@cptnhero6116 Seems you only list 3 endings. I picked the 4th secret ending
It's is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.
cant wait for Mass Effect Andromeda and its sequels.
I never understood what people ment by the phrase "The journey is the reward" until I played Mass Effect.
Tom Sanada what? origins had one pf the best RPG gameplay systems ever. ill take it youv never played KOTOR.
This song makes me think of the emotions going through us right before death. Sadness, acceptance, and ascendance
Great game

I fucking hated myself when mordin died on me. I truly loved his hyperactive personality.
DirtGuy And when he sang, in ME2? Brilliant.
Aiden Pearce
Go away, you've been replaced Aiden ...
Aiden Pearce 6 years are really quick...

Mass Effect. The story of a hero who even when no one supported him he always comed out the best. A man who sacrificed everything for the future of not only humanity future but for the galaxy future.

And i hope to find my Liara someday, somewhere :'(
Well said my friend.

I completely agree, there were too many feels in the end : )
You sir, are completely right, I hope more people would understand it.
Its like reaching the end of a fantastic book but you wish there were more pages
playing the Mass Effect series, I learned so much about leadership from Shepherd.
+Allinmind agreed
+Allinmind Not only Leadership...
Well, being a leader who cared about his crew OR a heartless jerk who let's everyone he cares about die. Both are fun
You can also project your personnality in his, making choices you would make that bring you closer to the character. It's a fantastic game cause the story line is almost unlimited ( direction wise).
7 years later and still one of the best games I have ever played. Loved the story, the characters, the villains, the music. Thank you Mass Effect.

Except for Halo. Halo and mass effect are two very incredible games that changed the gaming industry to this date.
DaoDC93 I would say Kotor as well. Kotor really revolutionized role playing games. Mass effect picked up that torch and perfected it

But first, I gotta calibrate me emotions...

"...Shepard."
Her tablet lights up. She picks it up to see a message. *"Commander Tali'zorah vas Normandy, General Hackett has requested an Extranet meeting with you."*
She smiles, and takes another sip of wine, and goes inside to answer the call.
I love those books. The republic commando series.... Awesome to find someone else who does too.
My favorite books of all time
Bal kote, darasuum kote!

Agreed and to me the other endings feel a bit too much Like indoctrination

Shepard=Christ... Just saying...
You must not have read TV Tropes entry on "Everyone is Jesus in Purgatory"
"because of her, I'm alive! And I'm not alone..."
I miss EDI
She can be brought back when the Mass Relays are rebuilt. That’s what I hope can happen. Though Joker may not live to see the light of that.
Remember why did we get here?
To destroy the reapers.
EDI, the geth and quarians didn´t want Destroy. Synthesis was the best ending, despite us being biased to destroy the Reapers from the start.
Anarchy Edgelord Why kill when you can Control? No one gets hurt in the process.
Destroy was the best ending. If you choose synthesis, you risk turing ever species in the galaxy to Harbringer's slaves. Really, why would HE say the truth to you, and even if he did, he didn't say that there will be no "side effects"
Synthesis is a utopía for all,is the good ending, destruction is the sad ending and control is the bad.
Heat_Spectre how can the life prevail if don't allowed evolve.
This track absolutely destroys me everytime I hear it
I know I may be a little late on this.
Tali is bae, and yeah, I wish I could go back and experience it again
@@xxvaltielxx1789 I'm going for my second run, but with a female Shepard. Still feels good. And sad.
@@dredgenshade7137 one of these days I'll sit down and play the whole trilogy again, maybe on my next vacations
