    I bought one in 1996 and still have it today. It’s a great machine that at the time, was one of the only ATV’s with rocker shifter and full running boards, highest ground clearance (12”), largest displacement (454 cc’s), all wheel one lever disc brakes (that worked!), semi independent 4-link rear suspension, full featured instrument cluster, brake light, 4.75 gallon fuel tank w/fuel gauge, and a 5 speed w/additional 5 in low-range… was a bit heavy to steer when stopped but you could steer with one hand when moving. There were a few shortcomings, but all in all they were great! Back when Suzuki made their engines (King Quad engine). In 1996 it cost me $6,300. Things last if you take care of them…

      @Nigel 900 These things are great reliable wheelers and yes very ahead of it’s time.

    Thank you for the video …was looking to see what I just bought….just got a 98 from my buddy…it’s been sitting outside uncovered for years….pretty ruff but runs needed a coil that’s why it sat for the last ten years…he’s got more treasures in his back yard…trying to score what I can when he’s hard up for cash…lol he came to my place after we made a deal for this one and said damn all my good stuff is at your house now…got his 72 c30 bread truck….a boat from him and a Yamaha 85 225 Dx…and the deal before this one scored a 2000 YZ125
    I just enjoy restoring the old stuff….so I’m very lucky he’s my friend…because he hordes and finds all the deals..
    Thanks again for taking the time to make and share the video

      The old Cats are pretty tough machines, The 454 and 500 especially.

      That’s great that it didn’t take much to get it running again. Sounds like you’ve put alot of time into all the accessory’s. These are very dependable machines. Glad you enjoyed the video.

      The choke is off when the lever is up. When you pull the lever down towards you the choke is on.

    awesome video! I also bought a 96 arctic cat 454, however my engine was in pieces and almost everything from frame to handle bars and wiring need to be re done. Im currently looking to doing a big bore kit since the cylinder walls have major pitting from rust sitting in the cylinder. does anyone have any information for such kits and or std sleeves for this engine? ive been having some difficulties sourcing parts in my area. im hoping i can restore the quad with a reasonable budget.

    • @rockspowersports
      @rockspowersports  3 роки тому

      @Icancu. I do know that LA sleeve have standard sleeves for pretty much all atvs. As far as a big bore kit I’m not sure if the 500 cylinder would fit...

    So is there no clutch lever to depress when using foot shifter? I have 500 automatic transmission

    • @rockspowersports
      @rockspowersports  2 роки тому +1

      @CooterELee That is correct it is a semi auto, so there is no clutch lever. There is a centrifugal clutch that doesn’t engage until you apply rpm’s.

    How is the suspension smoothness with that straight rear swing arm?

      It’s really not bad. Not as smooth as independent though.

    • @rockspowersports
      @rockspowersports  3 роки тому

      Ya these are getting pretty old. If it’s been sitting I’d be looking for a spot where the mice might have chewed the wires or possibly just a bad ground from rust.

      Look right by the handlebar stem if you are blowing solenoid fuses. Otherwise just start by unplugging everything except ignition and coil and keep going until you find issue. Good luck.

    Where is the dip stick on this 454?

    • @rockspowersports
      @rockspowersports  3 роки тому

      These 454s don’t come with a dip stick there is a sight glass on the right side of the motor. The oil should be about 1/2 to 3/4 full in the window when the machine is not running and on a level surface.

    • @naserjahanbiglar6269
