I remember watching Australian team before 2007, they were brutal, I mean they were some really tough guys, both mentally and physically, aggressive on the ground and playing mind games in Media, even before a tour starts. It's a bit of a shock for me to see how Australian players meet and start talking like life long buddies after 5 mins. Kinda amazing TBH.
Because social media wasn't as prevalent as now. If it was, those same players would have acted like this. Goody goody. Any rude incident would have been amplified so hard that they had no option but to become a good boy.
Stope this business of comparing different eras and generations and simply enjoy the cricket. I don’t understand why people are so much fixated in the past and their definition of toughness is limited with sledge and fiery body language. Game has evolved now because of taste and mannerisms with which its played. With advent of social media & cross border franchise cricket 🏏 any behaviour that too aggressive -in the face sort of, is labelled disgraceful and criticised especially by keyboard warrior, not to mention woke media.
The point at 19 mins is so spot on. Internet commenters think they're so smart pointing out a couple of points of contradiction when a celebrity speaks out about a good cause. E.g. when Sebastian Vettel started speaking out about climate change, people ragged on him for driving F1 cars as if he didn't know the irony already. People can't just instantly change their complete life circumstances if they decide to use their platform for good and it doesn't mean they shouldn't say anything until they're completely absolved of any contradiction. That's just unrealistic.
Zampa's chat on ethical sponsorship is very alien to an Indian cricket fan like me. Our title sponsors have involved a long line of scamsters to conglomerate crooks from Sahara to Adani to Byju's.

Although there is a difference for me between a company like Adani that skirts the law to cause catastrophic amounts of environmental damage versus a tobacco company that while selling a harmful product, is still doing so because the state gives it the license to as it is a valid lifestyle choice in the country. In an ideal world, we shouldn't allow both sets of businesses. But they're bad in different ways, and one is bad in a worse way.

Imagine all the trash from the single-use plastic packing that gets strewn all over the streets of India and inevitably ends up in the rivers and the oceans. The environmental impact of people who smoke it and cause all sorts of health conditions not only to them but the people around them. we have to then manufacture more stuff in the form of medicines / drugs to cure or manage their conditions, causing more emissions and plastic pollution. It has a lot of cascading effects, which can negatively impact the environment.
