      @@davidrabie if you have a clean record no you have to apply for a licence and do a safety course and you cannot get semi auto rifles for all intents and purposes but bolt actions pump action straight pull are available there is no mag capacity limit in my state
      Pistols are a separate licence and are only allowed for competition shooting and you must shoot 6 times a year you cannot hunt with a pistol
      The issue is self defence is not an acceptable reason for possession
      Also there are more firearms in circulation now than before the buy back / theft although there are more guns in fewer people's hands also firearms must be locked in a safe etc

    I bought this rifle today, in 22 WMR, with the 24 inch barrel. I put the only scope I had laying around on it, a 40-odd year old Bushnell "Sport View". It took only 10 shots to sight it in, and then I shot it 5 times at 100 yards, 3 times at 50 yards, and twice at 25 yards. You can cover all 10 holes with a quarter! I zeroed at 100 yds, then shot 1/2 inch high at 25 yds, and 1/2 inch low at 50 yds. This is the most accurate rimfire rifle I have ever shot/owned. I have an old 3X9 variable Leupold VX1 on a .308 Winchester that I never shoot. I thought about putting it on the CZ 457, but heck, it is pretty close to perfect with the old pice of crap Bushnell scope! Good review, sir!

    For me, the 457 is a great rifle because CZ offers it in a left-handed model, it’s accurate, well made, reliable, beautiful, and it didn’t break the bank. What more can one ask for?

    Well you said to wait and it was worth it. Great write up, I started checking on the CZ last night based on your comment. I appreciate the detail on scope and rings, very helpful, it looks like I may go that route, and I really like the idea of changeable barrels. Also, from the videos I watched, the difference in terms of accuracy between the CZ and Tikka was negligible, both far better than I am. So, again, thanks.

      Follow up - bought the 457 with both .17hmr and 22 LR barrels. I've shot the 17 on the range and in the field at ground squirrels. It was spot on shooting at the range and deadly on squirrels out to about 140yd (the area we were in wouldn't let us shoot past that safely). I put a Leupold V-X Freedom CDS 4-12x40 with Tally rings on it. Next up 22LR. Again, thanks for the review of a great little rifle.

      @Alan Shook Regarding the scope, I'm trying to decide between 2-7x33 Freedom and the 3x9 that DD has. I'm getting the 457 in .17hmr and wanting to be able to reach out with head shots on squirrels and rabbits at say 75 to 100+ yrds. My question is, will the 2-7 be sufficient for that? I like the fact that it reduces the weight a bit more than the 3-9x40.

    My 455 17hmr shot 5 shot one inch @ 100 yards out the box...its accurate.
    Safety is tight, i polished it down to make it slide easier, a bit of metal removed.
    Polished the bolt ramp to make it easier to throw the bolt.
    Leupold 3 3-9x50 fits 90° bolt perfectly.
    A suggested vortex had a large rear lens, doesnt fit worth crap, ...you need high rings to mount a scope so i put the leupold on it, which has a small diameter rear lens.
    Careful on buying a scope, lots of trouble getting a good fit.

    Nice review Desert Dog. Have the 455 varmint in 22LR and the 457 varmint in 22 WMR. The LR shoots fairly consistent .4" 50 yard groups and my best group was .29" with bulk Browning BPR high velocity ammo. The WMR isn't quite there yet, but we'll see. Both guns are keepers.

What I mean by this is I have a Bergara BMR in 22 mag and when throwing it in the truck, slung on my shoulder just walking in the woods the bolt always disengages/ sometimes then sliding back when walking. So I have to walk with my hand on the bolt as I have missed countless opportunities shooting game because of this issue.

    I was visiting my wife's family during the summer of '20 in Kalispell and got my hands on the American at the Sporthaus. Very nice, but I wanted irons and set my sights on the Lux. Of course I left the credit card at home, so I couldn't make any ridiculous spur of the moment purchases. By the time I got home, all the inventory of the Lux were sold out and I had to hunt for a Training, which I was lucky to find in a lgs at the time. Fantastic rifle! It's easy enough to find the Lux stocks, if I really want that handsome wood, but I've yet to purchase one. I did recently purchase a Scout LNIB for 400 bones for my 5 y/o to grow into. The barrel swap feature is excellent, but factory barrels sell out quickly. My old Marlin 883 has chowdered feed lips and the part is NLA. It still cycles fine, but I'm hoping to score a .22wmr barrel for the CZ in the near future, as it hits with authority. Appreciate the excellent review. Thanks DDO!

    Man i wish there was a way to swap a rimfire bolt into a 223 cz 527. With one or a couple of those 223 caliber adapters, you could have one gun for plinking, small game, varments, deer and hog sized game. Maybe not the best caliber for the job, but i know guys that use the 223 quite effectively on deer. Plus it would be a good supressor host as well. Hell, you could chop it down, fit it with a folding stock, and it would be a dam fine survival rifle.....like a modern day M4.

    Hey DD, Happy New Year (2022)! I am interested in buying a 457 Varmint w/20" barrel. I have not been able to find much info on how these 22LR rifles are chambered. I think they use the CIT (German?) specs versus the SAAMI specs, and the chamber appears to be close to the Bentz (American) version. I have asked CZ to verify but it seems to be a closely guarded secret. CZ also has MTR (Match Target Rifle) chambers. I have heard these rifles are very accurate - MOA or even better - and I want accuracy without spending thousands on a target rifle like a RimX or Vudoo. What info do you have? Thanks.

    • @desertdogoutdoors1113
      @desertdogoutdoors1113  2 роки тому +4

      I would have to say that your comment is completely wrong. The 457 has a much better trigger, a better safety (which actually operates the correct way), better machined bottom metal and components (vs stamped and plastic), shorter bolt throw, smoother bolt, bolt is WAY easier to break-down and clean, chamber indicator, pillar bedding, etc, etc. CZ made the 457 MORE EXPENSIVE to manufacture, not cheaper as you stated.
      I have owned a 452 and currently own a 455. The new 457 corrected every shortcoming of those rifles and improved the things we already liked.
      You should handle these guns, or at least do your research before commenting.

    • @desertdogoutdoors1113
      @desertdogoutdoors1113  3 роки тому +4

      The 550 "premium" rifles were limited runs that had higher grade wood and checkering compared to the standard 550's. They also had "hand fitted" actions (some with jeweled bolts) and slightly better finish on them. The "CZ Premium" rifles were equivalent to a "M70 Supergrade".
