From u.k. Like your channel, just found it today! Been playing guitars forever only discovered the baritone 2 yrs ago. Got a tanglewood, which will do for now. I don’t like the steel strings, but that’s me! Can you recommend a baritone under 300 quid. I’d be pleased if you could thanks
Hello mate, thanks for the love! Yeah I prefer the nylon set up rather than the steel too 😊 there’s a new uke that released this week, they’re electro acoustic from Flight and SUS: www.southernukulelestore.co.uk/flight-carabao-lite-mango-electro-acoustic-baritone-ukulele-w-gigbag-22
I have been waiting for an affordable Baritone with Steel Strings for a long time. A few months ago I purchased a Tenor Guitar but send it back. The small but thick neck was uncomfortable and the sound was less warm and not so smooth.... This one sounds amazing and I ordered one from Zoundhouse Dresden, Germany for 344 Euros. Great Instrument for a great Price. Thank you so much for this review ❤
I used to have a Kala tenor guitar but I was never really comfortable with the narrow neck(I have the same problem with guitars with narrow necks) so this is right up my street.
Such an unreal sounding ukulele. There's something very familiar but also very different about it. Excited to know that it's going to show up a little more here before going back!
Great review! My tenor guitars, even my Ibanez parlour tenor guitar are bigger in body than even my long body steel string baritone, and my other tenor guitars are a full O size guitars. The Flight Maia is a gorgeous looking baritone and sounds fab. I’d love to get my hands on one to compare it to my Pono. Thanks for a great video 😊🎼
Hello Sammy, thanks for your thoughts about the new Steel-String Baritone from Flight. Like the Name Maia and how it Sounds - has its own Charakter. I like the Baritone Aurora with the flurocarbon strings too. These Ukes are both really a bargain - the Prize is unbelievable too. All the best to you and thumbs up for this interesting Video. Mahalo nui from Germany, Bettina
Both sound beautiful Sammy but if I were to get one I would prefer the aurora. Unsure about the squeaky steel strings as you were fretting but hey that's subjective. Still a 👍
Hey Sammy, nice review! This instrument seems to have a lot of potential, but a learning curve to go with it. A lot of string squeak, but harmonics are totally awesome! Not your everyday baritone ukulele. Take that baby out on the race track and push it to it's limits. I know you'll see what it's capable of. Be well, my friend!
Okay, now I want one. I've been looking at tenor guitars, but the neck is too narrow. I have an Ohana solid mahogany baritone ukulele that I love but would like to have this steel string baritone by Flight, I know all Flight ukuleles are great.
I’m curious if you can tune it in fifths (CGDA or GDAE) like a tenor guitar… then you’d essentially have a very comfortable playable mandolin for Irish or bluegrass music
I love it! Can you tell me about the strap pin on the pickup? Is it as big of a pain as the LR Baggs 50? I play a Blueridge tenor with a Baggs and hate getting the strap on and off. This was a great demo video. I wanted a steel string baritone uke when I got the tenor guitar but none were to be found. This beautiful uke is now on my wish list!
Hi Sammy. I've just bought one of these and first impressions are very favourable. Firstly, it's such good value! It looks and feels great and I love the difference in sound between this and my fluorocarbon-stringed Kanile'a Bari. Will search out some less squeaky strings, maybe. Have Mummy & Daddy @ Flight mentioned whether there might be a Tenor Maia in the pipeline? 🤔😍 Cheers, Michael
MICHAEL hello mate! Mommy and Daddy are too busy to keep me in the loop so I often find out these things when you do 😅 wow tenor Maia would be realllll interesting, I’m sure Primoz would tell me if it would work or not!
I want to buy a new ukulele…I’m trying to decide between the flight tenor Comet ukulele and the Mustang. Would you do a comparison between those two ukulele?
I have Flight Fireball, initially with steel strings. But - it is difficult to find scores for baritone.. 😢. So I stringed bariton high G strings fluocarbon.. I am pity of that, I like more steel string sound, and do not want to go to guitar.. did you anybody meet this problem? thank you for video.
Heya Jason - from what I believe is that this kid has some extra reinforcement inside the body, as all the Flight baritones come with a truss rod, however it’s impossible to tell really without asking the main man himself!
Would love to hear this Sammy I did ask southern store how it would sound if it had traditional strings on, in the end I picked up the Aurora not disappointed thanks for the review also on that ukulele also😊
Hey brother, how can I pm you? …. I’ve an idea that’ll probably be insignificant to you, but possibly not …. 😏. …. anyways, I hope you and yours are well and happy.
Interested in the Flight Maia? Check it out here: thmn.to/thoprod/594476?offid=1&affid=1399

Thanks for your time!
You got back to me, unlike plumbers I could name!😂
It’s a beauty, thank you!
My replying skills trump my plumbing skills, so they have me there!

A pleasure, have fun with the new addition 😇
WOW! Just when you think you don't need another use... they pull me back in.
Rookie error - you always need at least one new uke 😂
I used to have a Kala tenor guitar but I was never really comfortable with the narrow neck(I have the same problem with guitars with narrow necks) so this is right up my street.
I'll be one of the first owners when this instrument is available in my country. A great travel instrument.

Those strings do make it a new beast!
I have an amazing 59 year old Gianni baraton ukulele made in Brazil and it plays like heaven

AH MORGANA! I would love to hear your thoughts on such a thing as tenor guitar veteran :)
You had me at moody mango with a racing stripe. AND triangular fret markers! 🤩Sounds fantastic, too. Thank you for the review, Sammy!
Thanks, Sammy. Great review. I love the sound of both the Aurora and the Maia. They are so different - wonder if I could justify owning them both 😻
Apples and oranges are both great 😉
Sounds really good!

Yes Colin, the usual setup still works best for me, but I can see it being what certain folks have been waiting for!

Lovely review of a lovely uke. Nice playing as always buddy.....
Cheers Paul, I loved your review on it too!
Thank you for the video very good. I have just brought one,. Your opinion on guitar strings 10 gauge or 11 gauge guitar strungs?
It's Amazing! if only there was a lefty option
Great review Sammy!!!
Thank you Gary!
I’m curious if you can tune it in fifths (CGDA or GDAE) like a tenor guitar… then you’d essentially have a very comfortable playable mandolin for Irish or bluegrass music
I did it high G bari strings, tenor uke are not suitable... GDAE

I have the same strap pin on my other baritones and I’ve never thought about it being a problem, however I can’t compare it to the LR baggs, sorry!

@4stringboy OK I'll keep my ear to the ground... It was good to see you at SUS - hope to catch you at a Festival next year!
@@michaelbeaufoy483 good to see you too! Fingers crossed I’ll be at one of em 😅
What kind of thumb pick are you using? It's very cool, I want to find one!
It’s one I designed with a Danish company openhagen.com/en-dk/products/electric-guitar-pickgrip
Great uke! Can it be tuned in GCEA tuning with low G and if so what string gauge should I use for each string?
Beautiful ukulele, I bought one. What I'm also curious about is that pick on your thumb. Where did it come from
Congrats on the nice uke! It’s something I designed, a felt based thumbpick openhagen.com/en-dk/products/electric-guitar-pickgrip
Get some Fastfret string cleaner mate it will help with the squeaky string noise.
I want to buy a new ukulele…I’m trying to decide between the flight tenor Comet ukulele and the Mustang. Would you do a comparison between those two ukulele?
I’ve never played a Mustang, but I should get one to have a blast with - thanks for the suggestion!
Very good, but what is that thing on your thumb ??? would have liked to hear it with skin to steel on bass strings ..
My skin doesn’t like strings so I have to use the thumbpick - it’s my own felt thumbpick
Can you share details on the thumb pick you are using? Very intrigued by it
It’s one I designed, you can grab it here: openhagen.com/en-dk/products/electric-guitar-pickgrip
Can you post the tabs? So beautiful..... especially on the steel stringed one.
Thank you! All the pieces I played are from my book Low Fursday www.4stringboy.com/store/p74/Low_Fursday_-_Fingerstyle_pieces_for_Baritone_DGBE.html
@@4stringboythank you! Just ordered the Fingerstyle Book👍
The flight Steel String Uke ordered yesterday 😂
Hahaha thank you, that’s a good combo!
Looks lovely, but such a shame there are no 3rd fret markers on neck or side of neck, cant be expensive to add .....
I wondered by the title if you can take it onboard while flying :)
Hahaha I mean - technically yes?
Is there any control over the pickup volume etc ??
There is - the double pickups always have volume and tone controls
Great question, thank you. I was curious too as I can't see any controls.
The Maia sounds great!
can you tell me what brand of strings are on the Maia?
Hey Fred, I asked Primoz and he said they made them specially made for the Maia!
@@4stringboy Thank you Sammy 🙏🏻
Are these strings for sale (in case they break)?
@fzelders no currently but they will be - if they do break a light gauge acoustic string (11s) would do the trick ☺️
@@4stringboy Thanks again. 😀
Can you drill strap buttons to it?
I don’t see why not?
Hi Sammy, the construction looks much the same as the fireball Baritone and both have a truss rod. Could these strings not be fitted to the fireball?
Heya Jason - from what I believe is that this kid has some extra reinforcement inside the body, as all the Flight baritones come with a truss rod, however it’s impossible to tell really without asking the main man himself!
Probably a gamble I'd regret when it snaps my fireball in half 😂. Always room for another uku though
Replacing the Fireball is the more expensive option 😬😂
I love the fireball, she's going nowhere! At some point this would make an interesting addition though.
That's mighty pretty......
None of my other ukes have a racing stripe ☹️
How to order
Check the pinned comment 🧡
In the final comparison segment... Hard to tell if it's the strings or just the tone wood making the difference.
Yeah it’s impossible to tell! If it were mine to keep I’d rip the strings off and try the Maia with fluorocarbon 😂
Would love to hear this Sammy I did ask southern store how it would sound if it had traditional strings on, in the end I picked up the Aurora not disappointed thanks for the review also on that ukulele also😊
@martystar4123 yeah I think it would so similar to the Aurora - not sure if the nut would need adjusting for the strings too.
Your playing style gives me James Taylor vibes.
Oh wow, thanks!
How can I buy one?
I think they're sold out at the moment :( but more should be coming in the next month or so, check your local store or head to Thomann.de
Pro tip: pure steel strings means you can also add a pickup and even a rubber bridge to this!
This kid does have a piezo, but you can’t beat a good magnetic pickup 🙏
@@4stringboy Yeah, magnetic all the way
Shame no strap pins ...
basically sounds more like a guitar to me.
From u.k.
I agree, I don’t know what you think but I don’t like it.
