I was part of that cast. I was going through old photos of the show all morning after hearing the sad news. Diahann was so lovely and a legendary diva. She will be missed :)
This is a dream come true! This has confirmed my belief that Diahann Carroll was a revelation as Norma. My only regret is that the entire performance wasn't filmed with this quality. If only we could see the entire AS IF I NEVER SAID GOODBYE. Thank you!!!1
Spiderwoman you have made my entire week by posting this! I begged everyone I knew to take me to see this production and no one had any interest. I grew up in Rochester and would see the commercials daily for this production and loved the highlights recording. This is far and away my favorite thing you’ve ever posted! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
aurora spiderwoman - I got the American Premiere recording for Christmas the year that this production was getting ready to premiere in Toronto. To this day I adore how regal Ms Carroll comes across in the role - truly like no other Norma does.
I’m pretty sure footage does exist somewhere. I used to know a guy from NYC years ago who told me his whirlwind weekend trip to Australia from NYC when he was a young student to be a seat mate with someone who needed a companion to sit beside while he filmed Sunset Blvd on stage.
Thank you for this! I used to play this Cast Recording more than the OBC, I loved Diahann's performance on the CD. I also much preferred Rex Smith's vocals and their orchestrations.
I wonder if Sunset on Broadway had gone on for longer, would Carroll (and Smith and Charles for that matter) have joined that production? They clearly missed out.
Yes, I've always assumed that if the NY "Sunset" had been a bigger box-office hit, it would have gone on to eventually inherit Diahann Carroll and Petula Clark.

Because of her beauty, her vocal talents were never fully appreciated. And you still hear it even at this age,

Hi Christopher---Love this comment, thank you. Delighted that this was something you had been interested in seeing more than 20 years ago.

Agreed! I played the Canadian soundtrack many times
Would have loved to see Diahann Carroll as Norma Desmond, she will be missed. I was lucky to see Betty Buckley in London
Rest in peace, Miss Carroll. 🙏
Simply stunning!

@@auroraspiderwoman5886 Perhaps Rita Moreno as well?
Sure, why not?
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 When she's the right Age, I would love to see Audra McDonald play Norma.
I thought Diahann Carroll was tremendous in this, if only because she could actually sing the score full out without compromising.
Oh bore off
RIP Ms. Carroll. x
Our beloved Miss Desmond, Miss Carroll has left us Spiderwoman...you were one of the first people I thought of...
Thanks for thinking of me---stunned by the news.
She was big. RIP
It was the Pictures that got small....
Saw this back in the days when Livent was a force to reckon with for Toronto’s theatre scene. Sigh...
RIP
Without taking anything away from Ms. Carroll, Glen Close was Norma Desmond heart and soul!
Glen Close didn't gave the soul the understanding or the voice for Norma. Thank god there is footage of the amazing Miss Carroll xx
@@hefinrosser8685 disagree…Patti Lupone!!
Elaine Paige was my #1!!
