      No, please don't tell me his books feel even longer than they are! I have read a couple of short(er) stories by him, and I likes them all. They were also all not "classical" Horror stories. I have also seen several films etc. based on stories of his, of those, some were "classical" horror. I still hope I'll be in the right head space to read another book of his one day, and I would like to read one of his more typical stories for once. And those are long!

    Never read a Steven King book but literally the reason he wrote the Shining was because, while at the Stanley hotel, he had a nightmare that his son was being chased by a vacuum cleaner. That's it lmao

      that's not true at all... From memory, he got into a near marriage ending fight while drunk at the hotel and, reflecting on this, had the idea for the novel and decided to stay there until he had finished writing it. At least, it's something along those lines... Maybe he had a dream about his son being chased by a vacuum cleaner and that inspired a scene, though there's no such scene in the book, but it's not the inspiration for the novel.

      He asks that because its a reference to the joke from that very book. The Wolves use golden flying bombs named as snitches from Harry Potter books and since the characters are from the 70s they don't know this and assume its from a Star Wars movie from the future.

    I'm actually reading my first Stephen King right now, halfway through 11/22/63, and it's honestly one of the most compelling reading experiences I've had, period. I had steered clear of Stephen King for the longest time because of his popularity, but now I feel silly because he really is an excellent writer, and I'm definitely going to read more after this one.

      If you want to read another book by him, Misery, Shining and Pet Sematary are all really good horror novels. The Mr. Mercedes book is also a great dark detective novel as well, less scary but a very entertaining read.

      I suggest also Bag of Bones, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, and Gerald’s Game. Really fantastic books

    Rereading the Waste Lands rn and yeah, "what if trains were scary" is a pretty succinct summary of (the latter half of) that book

    11/22/63 isn't even a horror-based story (it's thrill/mystery-ish) but looking back, for some reason, "what if time travel was scary" fits it perfectly.

    Honestly, I get that this is tongue-in-cheek, but forcing yourself take something utterly mundane and somehow find a way to make it horrifying is actually a pretty good way to make an original kind of horror.
    People have done ghosts, but it’s hard to think of many horror stories about a dog of all things, so you have to actively look for things scary about it, which can help make it feel more immersive and real, I think. Sorry if this was ramble-y.
