You got this! Some people just learn faster than others! I have faith in you. I know it is from a year ago. But if you practice for like 5-10 min a day you will get it.
Who here is Irish and loves doing Irish dancing it's so fun I really hope everyone learns it. Trust me you'll have so much fun dancing to music after you learn this
I used to take classes on this when I was little but now I have no clue how to do even the most simple steps 😳 I’m trying to learn for a show I’m doing on saint patties day
Absolutely no Irish here (except in my heart, of course) but Argie, coming from listening to so many traditional Irish tunes that, at some point, I'd better start learning the basics of trad Irish dance.
my 5 year old son has learnt this (and others) , has been having lessons since last october.. did his first fais in december (came first) and dancing for the county in april in the under 6s :)
I'm just learning this because of Niall Horan but I can do it just a little try but if I do it every it will help me to do it because I always fall so thanks for this video I can do it better
No problem ;) What really gave me a boost was the hard-shoe stuff (the type of dance that got me started taking classes) I knew hard-shoe dancing only from the local theatre and from TV till then and never in my life have I experienced something so beautiful and incredibly loud and powerful as 12 pairs of hardshoes hitting the floor. I just sat there and watched in awe...
YOU ARE MY LIFE SAVER!! i just started level 1 irish dance and i,m the oldest, AND to make it worse everyone knew there 1-2-3 and i didn't i mean i knew what it was supposed to look like, but i couldn't do it, YOU sir just saved my life
To beginners: think of step dancing as skipping. Much if Irish Step dance is a skip sequence- you can start by lifting the front kick leg about 1/4 high than shown and then follow the steps. Once you get comfortable and build muscle memory, you will naturally be able to left your legs higher. It's about muscle memory and strength that is built with practice. There are always beginner modifications if each step sequence
My school favours beginners to start on thick socks: it gives awareness about which part of your feet should touch the ground (glad I didn't have shoes on try-out class, balance would've been nowhere) Arching your toes is also important and very hard to see when you are wearing shoes. Best thing about taking classes:There's a room with a mirror and (important) a teacher who tells you if you're doing a good job or not. And: don't be surprised if a student gives you some encouraging words ;)
I knew I'd fin some Niall comments.. Don't get me wrong, I am a Niall girl all the at, but the reason I looked this up is cuz my grandfather suggested I learn since his grandmother was Irish, and it actually intrigued me so now I have my heart set on learning. I agree with the others. Yes, I am a Niall girl, but don't come here cuz of him, come here cuz you want to learn.
Do not be 'intimidated' by how high he jumps or he kicks his legs up in the air, or his cutout! Especially improving the cutout takes TIME... a lot of time. Kicking your legs straight high up into the air takes a lot of strength from your leg- and core-muscles (more or less the muscles around your stomach) I'm now practicing the Beginners reel for almost a year now (I started taking classes) and I still have to improve so much, though I'm stretching almost every evening. Really you can do it to!
Why can't I do that? I tried it. Now have 2 broken legs, a dislocated shoulder and 2 black eyes. All injuries accured when I tried to freeze in mid air. Expect an action via Brian Morgan, my solicitor in Clones.
@RinneEireann That was the first thing I thought too when my teacher showed this... The hardest thing to get used to for me was the fact that when practicing, after a 1-2-3, and let's say your right foot is in front, you don't continue with your left foot (as in walking) but you continue with right... I already managed to dance this in a more or less circle... and that afer 1 lesson (and a try-out lesson which was more like watching) still beginning, but I'm not thinking about bailing out...
I got it my 2nd try! It is not the best but I got it! I had to take it slow, If needed count it out like " 5 6 7 8 1and 2 then pause the 3 and 4 then pause then 5 and 6 than pause then 7 and 8.
Im an Irish dancer and in drill class to hold longer over 2,3's and birdies we do leg lifts. It really helps to strengthen your quads so you can hold your jump for longer and lift your front leg higher in mid air! Hope this helped !!

I'm just looking for the basic traditional dance steps, the way that people used to dance at house céilís 100 years ago, give or take, which anyone could (and did) do. I watched this as an experienced Irish dancer cause I watched a contemporary dance tutorial and I couldn’t do it.. I was like... I need to watch a video for beginners and be like “That shit’s easy” just to make me feel better after failing at contemporary 😂
What is that song called? I hear it all the time when I am practicing at the studio but I can't seem to find it. I have another reel tune but I don't like it as much as I like this one. Somebody, please, help me out! ;)
It looks so simple, and yet it's so hard.
it's the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. when Niall does it it seems so much easier
I thought I was the only one who came here just to dance like that in act my age
@@m0na_m0hmd nope , its me too

I've been dying to learn these kind of dances! Thankyou! Haha.
Love how you show the step from different views. Great form, too! :)
Just sent my pair of flip flops in the air! Let's face it: better not attempt this if you're above 50!
baby steps, friend
John Vega haha 😂
No, don't try to do this in flip flops. You need tie on sturdy shoes.
Haha I’m only 30 and I’m thinking twice
@@Yourbosskid I'm only 25 and its just about in the "oh hell no" territory... then again I have the rythm of a 2 legged horse...

Almost everyone (including me) is here because of Niall...THATS CUTE!🧡😅
What kind of exercises should one do to improve at this?
