  • In this video, I'll give my review after a month of using the HP Omen 27K. For the specs, this is a budget 4k 144Hz monitor even though it can be under $500 depending on sales. MSRP is $549 at the time I recorded this video.

    Happy New Year! Wanted to start it off with a tech video. Forgot to mention it but you can also rotate the monitor. You can raise it up and down slightly easily which is also a nice touch. Let me know if you have any questions about this if you are using a similar monitor.

    Hi Matt, thanks for the video, I'm finally switching to my first gaming monitor, and going through all the different reviews, i don't have a budget, as long as its good, just want to find the best monitor for my series X playing warzone, do you have a monitor that jumps out that would be your go to for my setup? Thanks in advance

      I think the 1440p version of this monitor might be a good pick-up if you were looking for a budget option. The only downside is IPS which might be an issue with shadows at 1440p but the colors will pop like this one. IPS = Better colors/brighter/better viewing angles/less contrast. VA panels like the Asus I looked at on the channel have good contrast but don't get bright. This particular 4K one showed some backlight in a game like Remnant but I think on performance mode it runs at a lower res so that makes sense. Backlight bleed is a tradeoff with any monitor but you could see it more on IPS panels. 4K 120hz on Warzone or Zombies looks great though in MW3. Pretty much anything 4K does to be honest.

    Please can you help me? Is better this monitor or Samsung Odissey G7 (S28BG702)? For me is necessary 4k (min 120hz), speakers and VESA compatibility. I’ll use it with ps5 and Mac mini M2.

      @Matt_the_TechRanger  18 днів тому +1

      I can’t speak on the Samsung as I haven’t used it. This one does have speakers and a VESA mount included. 100x100mm. The specs are about the same so I don’t think the picture would be much different between the two. I think the Samsung comes with smart apps.
      I’m also not a fan of most Samsung things, personally 😂 This has been great for work and gaming for me but the price was also really good when I got it.

    I bought this recently. It seems like such a great all around purchase. What do you think the longevity of it is? I don't know the reputation of Omen products.

    • @Matt_the_TechRanger
      @Matt_the_TechRanger  5 місяців тому +1

      I’d imagine it’ll last for a good while. It’s not an OLED which is good for longevity. The Omen line has been around for a while so that’s also a good sign. The only HP monitor I had before was a 1080p one I bought about a decade ago and that still works great. Also an IPS but just the regular HP line.

    I was wondering if you could share more about your settings with MacOS? I have been trying for weeks to find the perfect settings for it, but there are so many things I don't understand! Why did you choose that color space and not the omen default? Have you noticed the color washing out with HDR? Does adaptive sync need to be turned on in the monitor if you already have it enabled on the mac?

    • @Matt_the_TechRanger
      @Matt_the_TechRanger  5 місяців тому +1

      I wouldn’t recommend using HDR since most monitors don’t get bright enough to use it so the picture dims and colors get washed out.
      I use the REC 709 color space for work and UA-cam since that’s best for video but it’s essentially like a more colorful Apple RGB. I’d recommend sticking with Apple RGB and just making sure the color on the monitor is set to ‘Native’ so it takes on the color space of what is displayed.
      I leave Adaptive Sync on as well.

    • @carpyet9507
      @carpyet9507 5 місяців тому +1

      @@Matt_the_TechRanger awesome thanks again! I was just using the native element color profile, but I will definitely check out Apple RGB, and see if I notice a difference. I did turn off HDR, because the edge lit dimming was actually really noticeable and washing out the other colors.

      One more question@@Matt_the_TechRanger. Do you have the dynamic contrast setting on the monitor turned on?

    • @Matt_the_TechRanger
      @Matt_the_TechRanger  5 місяців тому +1

      @@carpyet9507 No I stay away from that on everything. It's usually never great and it's annoying when you notice constant brightness/contrast changes.

    Matt - is there any backlight bleed?

    • @Matt_the_TechRanger
      @Matt_the_TechRanger  5 місяців тому

      Only on black screens do I see the backlight. It’s unavoidable on an IPS display but in terms of bleed, if it’s there, I don’t really notice it. Turning up the Black Stretch option might give that impression though but that just raises black levels. To get deep blacks then an OLED is the way to go. I ain’t got that kind of cash, though 😜

    • @rjperry0
      @rjperry0 5 місяців тому

      @@Matt_the_TechRanger I actually have a preorder of the Dough Spectrum OLED lol. Yeah, the backlight bleed kills the experience for me, but I didn’t know how this would be since it’s less pricey than the one I preordered

    • @Matt_the_TechRanger
      @Matt_the_TechRanger  5 місяців тому

      @@rjperry0 Yeah it's really good for what it is but I knew the limitation. I think it's better in the backlight than the ASUS I looked at on the channel though. I may get lucky in the panel lottery. It's tricky unless you end up having a monitor with something like Mini-LED like I have I my TV. Even then, I'm not sure how that really compares.
      You'll have to share your experience with that OLED. First time hearing about that one but looks dope and the price is right. Not that I'll probably have a laptop that needs up to 100W charging but the 100W USB C is also a nice touch on the Dough. I think it's a 67W USB C on the HP.

    • @Matt_the_TechRanger

      Yea, there's an 'Off' option on the menu for 'External Lighting.' Sometimes mine turns on randomly if I don't turn the monitor off but I'm on a Mac and that does happen with other monitors too so 🤷‍♂ I just really like the blue option lately.

      @@LiveWhale546 No. Turning Brightness down will dim it but not to the point of turning it off, otherwise you wouldn't see anything. Only OLEDs have pixels that light themselves. It's done well on this one, though. The iPhone video I took actually picked up more of the backlight then it actually looks. I'd say its on par with the local dimming on my TV (TCL 6 series (2021)).
