“The dibley poisoner does her rounds” 😂😂😂 gets me everytime!! Although I adore Mrs Cropply!! ❤❤❤
Mrs Cropley's look of endless, verging on disdainful, pride after announcing the usual ghastly ingredient absolutely kills me
I think her recipes would as well!
@@NeidalRuekk
I'll have a hard time with the "tarassamalata" chocolate spread, has to be said
Thank you Brit Box! I've been searching for a compilation of Mrs. Cropley's recipes for at least 10 years. TOO HILARIOUS - laughter, laughter, laughter...
The delivery and facial expressions from this woman are excellent. The way she keeps a friendly smiling face after revealing an unpalatable ingredient is hilarious.
The late great Liz Smith...
To this day I can't hear the word _marmite_ without thinking of Mrs Cropley's cake... 😆
FangBanger
Her intonation when saying it is just perfect. With just the right amount of smear.
A true dear and wonderful heart! There was an enormous amount of love in this series - and humor too!
The Dibley poisoner 😂😂
RIP Liz Smith, fantastic actress
RIP to John Bluthal (Frank), Roger Lloyd Pack (Owen) and Emma Chambers (Alice) as well!
@@missprimproper1022 I recently heard about that. Let's hope they don't bring the vicar of Dibley back on TV by which I mean I hope the BBC doesn't make any new episodes, series of specials, as it wouldn't be the same without Jim, Frank, Owen and Alice. The programme survived without Letitia, but Jim, Alice, Frank and Owen were HILARIOUS, but that's not to say that Letitia, Geraldine, David and Hugo weren't HILARIOUS as well. If they did bring it back I personally think it wouldn't work with just Geraldine, her husband Harry, his sister Rosie, Hugo and David, as Jim, Frank, Owen, Alice and Letitia added so much humour to the show as well!
@@missprimproper1022 Thank you. Each of the actors brought something to the table in this show. I mean how else can you laugh at a man who has sex with farm animals (the Owen Newitt character played by Roger Lloyd Pack who also played Trigger in only fools and horses). In real life humans having sex with animals is WRONG and completely illegal and isn't remotely funny AT ALL! But when Owen mentioned himself having sex with animals I couldn't help but LOL (laugh out loud), which just goes to show how talented Roger was as an actor to make something so WRONG in real life HILARIOUS in the programme. Emma Chambers (Alice), Trevor Peacock (Jim), John Blutual (Frank) and Liz Smith (Letitia) also brought their talents to the show as Letitia's recipes were like women's pregnancy cravings, Jim couldn't say yes or no instead saying "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO YES", Frank was extremely BORING, and Alice had such a innocence and childlike perception of the world which made her come across as a really thick stupid person. With just Dawn French (Geraldine), Gary Waldhorn (David), James Fleet (Hugo), Richard Armitage (Harry) and Keeley Hawes (Rosie) the programme would be missing a LOT of its humour!
"Well, I put in a bit of taramosalata as well."🤣
Is that a well known ingredient in the UK? Where I live only the local Greek diaspora have ever heard of it!
That's Carp eggs!!
Fish eggs
Letitia Cropley genius of the culinary world , a true icon as was Liz Smith a truly original woman. So sad to think how many of that wonderful cast are no longer with us.
Only two of them still are - Dawn French and James Fleet. The rest are all gone :(
I always liked the Easter Bunny surprise!
Really miss the series, loved it!
I never understood why croply got nixed fro the show.... she lived until the series ended, and she was hysterical. What a shame.
I always thought Liz Smith must have wanted to leave, I don't see why they'd kill her off otherwise?
She left to go into The Royle Family.
She left because her agent wanted her to get more money in series 2 but the producers of the show declined so she left in the first episode of series 2 which was the Easter special.
I think she was tired.
She was a crazy but lovable character, I missed her when she was gone.
She was hilarious!!! Love this show, so underrated!
Another one of the underrated comments. So tired of seeing these things on different videos. Famous bands, famous musicians, wonderful films, great actors, there's always some twit who writes how they are very "underrated" . The show is famous. Everybody knows it everybody loved it. It is absolutely not underrated
Such a sweet old lady. She is so dear to make all those delectable goodies for everyone.
"You are one of the greats." So true, so true.
She was hilarious! Her recipes, her lines, her facial expressions, she was sooo fun!!! ❤️❤️❤️ such a shame she was made die in the series. She was priceless
I suppose she was the character with the least potential of developping in an new direction. Think of the twist when Frank Pickle announces he is gay.
@@harunrathore I don’t know about that. As the oldest character she certainly had a lot of wisdom and experiences to share with the others. Frank announced that he was gay, but they didn’t really develop that beyond that one episode. For example they never showed him having any lovers.
I missed her so much from the series, she was amazingly funny! So she was in Royal Family.
I heard it was something to do with Liz Smith's agent. I heard he was trying to bargain with the producers (of his own volition) to get the actress more pay for the episodes after series 1. She was then killed off the first episode after series 1. She found out by a junior producer as the scripts were being sent out. Liz actually wanted to continue with the character so because of this, she fired her agent.
She knew her cooking was bad she was just happy to torture everyone else lol
Raspberry and roast potatoes kinda sounds good 🤔🤔🤔
Actually, that's probably the least toxic of her flavor combos.
"Chocolate?" "Yeah" "You promise?" "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah." The look on Mrs. Cropley's face makes me giggle so hard.
It must have been laxative chocolate
@@Inkyminkyzizwoz with mrs cropply wouldn't surprise me
The Queen of cordon bluuuuuuuuuuh!!!!
Wish they had kept her on longer. I missed her when she left.
I love watching this show
Perfect delivery by Liz Smith. Every time.
Roast potato and raspberry doesn't actually sound too bad. It would depend if it was fresh raspberries or jam .
I’d be amazed if some wartime recipe didn’t use that exact combination. Yorkshire puddings become a delicious dessert with raspberry jam and icing sugar, so I’m sure potatoes do too!
Pork crackling and lemon curd instead of Apple sauce
I suppose it's not that different to having cranberry sauce with Christmas dinner!
With just a hint of liver.
109 seconds is the best one
Mrs Cropley’s ‘recipes’. Cheese and Lemon Curd Sandwiches, Turnip Biscuits, Orange Cake with Branston Pickle icing, Raspberry and Roast Potato Brownies, Tripe Salad, Fruit Cake with Tomato Ketchup topping and sprinkled with 100s and 1000s, Coconut Crumble with Anchovies, Lard and Fish Paste or Liver Pancackes, Chocolate Spread and Cod Roe Sandwiches, Bread and Butter Pudding with Snail extracts, Marmite Cake. Washed down with home made Orange Juice containing Oranges, Yeast, Balsamic Vinegar and urine!
Last one was a tryhard attempt.
Raspberry and Roast Potato Brownies, doesn't sound nearly as bad as all the others.
Gene Black Not that different to cranberry sauce with Christmas dinner!
A pioneer the stuff of legends in the new millennium RIP Mrs Cropley
God bless the incomparable Liz Smith. She gave pleasure to so many and was wonderful in this
I’m HOWLING! 🤣🤣🤣
How unique! Send me the recipes!! Or.. in the words of Jim: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO!! DO NOT! lol.
Bread and butter pudding surprise with snails?! I’m sure that will be a surprise! 😆
I always feel Mrs Cropley could have gone further than she did, and it's a shame they killed off her character.
When Letisha died in the series I cried my god damn eyes out
Same.
Same!!!
Bread and Butter Pudding Surprise 😂😂😂😂
I can’t…! Just can’t! 😂😂😂
Dear Mrs Cropley, hilarious character and wonderful actress 🙏👏
lol Mrs Cropley always makes me think of a brilliant family story. The first time my Mum met my Dad’s parents, she went round for Sunday lunch, and my Nan had prepared a “matrimonial tart” for pudding. She’d read eggs in the recipe (I’m guessing for a custard), and had prepared a tart filled with jam and sliced boiled eggs (with ice cream on top)! I don’t think anybody ate it. Bless my Nan, she only admitted she wasn’t a natural cook when she was on her deathbed. I do miss her x
Sad they didnt keep her in the show, BUT she was terrific in the Royle Family which she went into after Dibley!!
Raspberry and roast potato doesn’t sound too bad, compared to those other creations
From Liz' obituary in The Guardian:
"When the popular character was **killed off by the writer Richard Curtis,** the first Smith heard of it was when a motorcycle messenger came to her door with next week’s script, accompanied by a note reading, “Here is a script for the next episode, which contains your death.” She confessed to being hurt and bewildered."
How very sad and disappointing. For some reason I'd always assumed that the actress was in poor health or wanted to retire and so that's why they got rid of the character. We could have done with a lot more of Mrs. Cropley!
@@AuntK68 She was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005
Fabulous character, fabulous actress.
They missed the one that had the vicar and David being fooled into taking a big piece of cake and taking a bite to have them both discover it had anchovies inside.
She also stared as a house keeper in Lark rise to candleford. She was a very good actress .
My aunt's food is getting more and more like this lol
Oh god help you if she cook a marmite cake ew just ew
Marmite is like road tar in a jar. Lemon curd is good tho.
I was feeling all warm and nostalgic, then the end theme started playing and I got all teary-eyed! I always felt that if every minister, priest and other 'servant of god' behaved like Geraldine Granger, I might still be a religious person.
And that's where the problem lies. Church of England molds itself to Society. The Holy Catholic Church will not conform to Society's bullshark. *YOU* conform and fix yourself. Best remember that next time you say such nonsense.
@@Barbe fuck you
Barbe I second what Dave said.
I love Geraldine Granger!!! ❤❤❤
Holy sanctimonious fuckwad, Batman! Seriously, though. Piss off. Leave the arrogance and hypocrisy at home, and go do something productive, rather than being an ass to people online who don't particularly like the fact that there are an awful lot of "men of god" who do some VERY un-Christian things. Such as the various child sex abuse cases that your "Holy Christian Church" has had a hand in.
Vicar Geraldine: Very unusual sandwiches. What’s this with the ham?
Mrs. Cropley: Lemon curd.
Vicar Geraldine: *Laughs awkwardly* Gooooood Lord!!
Mind you, if ham can be roasted with honey or marmalade then lemon curd probably isn't that much of a stretch!
@@InkyminkyzizwozI’m w/ you on that one. It’s probably the most innocuous of her recipes. Geraldine’s “GOOD LORD” reaction just took me out!
🤣😂🤣
@@timrob87 I actually made myself a ham and lemon curd sandwich once and it wasn't that bad!
So funny Mrs. Crouply!
Loved her 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Raspberry and roast potato is really nice
I wouldn't mind trying the Marmite cake. :)
Reminds me of a sweet old lady when I was a little girl who would allways offer me really stale biscuits and I felt bad not accepting one so I would be forced to try and eat it...yucky
Is just me but ham and lemon curd sandwiches sounds nice.
I was going to say, at least she uses things that are actually edible, it's only the combinations that are weird! Baldrick on the other hand...
What a sweet Character.....
Love Mrs Cropley. 🤣🤣🤣
Of course, using up leftovers was in fact the original purpose of Shrove Tuesday - quite ironic that people now buy the ingredients specially for it!
I would have loved some of her recipes 💖
Mrs. Cropley is my fave character from this series! Too bad she didn't last very long.
Every Saint that is worthy of the title knows how to stretch the truth a little when a miracle is needed.
Did she by any chance make those sandwiches with laxative chocolate? Because that would certainly explain Geraldine running out so quickly!
That would have been funnier than the taramasalata.
The taramasalata was just another version of the same joke they did every time. It would have been brilliant for Geraldine to take a very tentative bite, then smile and take another big handful and wolf them down (we know of Geraldine's chocolate craze.)
Then Mrs Cropley says, 'Do you like them, vicar? I thought I'd give laxative chocolate a try.' Cue Geraldine's look of absolute horror!
Liz Smith passed away on Christmas Eve 2016
By coincidence, as a family tradition we often watched A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott - in which she acted as the charwoman
Ohhh Mrs Cropley
Would love a Letitia Cropley cookbook, perhaps as some kind of little bonus tidbit in a future edition or release!
Thanks, 🙏
Is it wrong that I am feeling hungry after watching this ???
Only if you're feeling hungry for her actual cooking
Dibley poisoner 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cross my palm with silver!
I can't cross your palm with, I've just had my wallet nicked. You're a physic, you should know that.
Ham and lemon curd sounds quite nice actually!
Put it this way, if ham can be roasted with honey or marmalade then lemon curd probably isn't that much of a stretch!
Love it!
I MISS HER SO MUCH. :((
This is me if I ever reach such age. I once baked a cake so bad my friend moved out of the country.
She's still a better cook than Baldrick - at least her ingredients individually are actually edible!
Liz Smith what an actress she was
Fish paste and lard pancakes
Ham and Lemon curd sandwich
Chocolate cake ? No marmite 🤣
And something with taramasalata 😳
Did we ever see Mrs. Cropley eat her own concoctions?
YUMMY!
Not going to lie, I would eat the marmite cake and the liver pancakes
Iconic
What was in the chocolate spread sandwich?
Taramasalata, except she couldn't pronounce it properly, bless her.😄
@@veronicaelsegood5175 What exactly is Taramasalata ?
Sandra wise:
It's a Greek recipe made up of fish roe and olive oil.
@@maggiesmith856 Cod eggs/caviar with olive oil.
Im from Greece and taramosalata is one of my favourite its like a pate ,we put bread or potatoes in the blender with onions the fish roe lot of lemon juice and olive oil , when its made good is excellent starter !!! But I'm sure doesn't goes well with chocolate
Lard and fish paste 🤮
In pancakes 🤢
Didn’t someone call her an old lush? That term is never used anymore
Can anyone tell me. Did Liz smith play Bills mum in 2 point 4 children ? She was a wonderful actress. There is a grate seen of her in an early episode of last of the summer wine on a date with compo eating a plate of pees in the café. 🇬🇧 8/11/20
*great
*scene
She died a real heartfelt gutwrenching death of old age in two completely different seperate sitcoms playing two completely different perfectly rounded beloved characters.
Was it she who had a lovely cat, briefly seen on the table in one episode? I wish we'd seen more of that; s/he was a much more "beauteous" creature than that equine-faced Kylie, whom everyone was fawning over!
👍🏻😜😂😅🤣😆🤭😁
😂🤣
Oh lovley chocolate
No marmite
So funny
As it wasnt sarcasm it was marmite ew
