    If you have 20 tools left and only 10 spots than give us some honorable mention tools that didn't quite make the list.

    You never cease to amaze me. In a different video of yours you broke out the Dont's for Husbands book and I loved how you spoke of your wife and the relationship you have with her. It's so similar to my wife and I. We relate to you guys a lot. I absolutely love it. You give us hope that it's still possible in this day in age to find true love and happiness. Thank you so much. Also, I'm glad you stood fast at the beginning of this video and said, hey, it's ok for men to have some of their own stuff. Haha. Thank you for all you do. God bless.

    I really look forward to these videos. I have a Word document list of each tool you showcase. I'm closing on my first home at the end of the month, and while I have eighty percent of these tools, it's good to realize I'm lacking a couple of the basics. Now to cross off the entire checklist! Keep up the great work!

    Cody, thank you for not folding at the start of the video regarding "common man". Thank you for not catering to an overly sensitive minority but rather stating the obvious and moving on. Its sad how pointing to the obvious now has to be a kind of stance but thats how it is nowadays. Thank you for your integrity.

    • @gustikrof189
      @gustikrof189 6 років тому +2

      i guess i understand where you are coming from. but dont you think including minoritys can make a positive difference?

      We should be very wary to not underestimate the power and influence of language.

    • @Rorschach313
      @Rorschach313 6 років тому +6

      Gusti Krof Well heres the thing, all he was saying was "common man". Its a term that essentially means "unskilled person" in relation to trades; it can also mean "regular person" or "everyday people". The problem i have with bowing down to overly sensitive people in general is that 1. People need to have a thicker skin when it comes to INTENT with language since thats where problems lie usually. And 2. Its never enough for overly sensitive people. For instance: lets say he corrected himself from saying "common man" to "common person". Then someone will say something to the effect of "why did you have to use the word common? That seems like a negative use of the word!" Or "why did you use the word person, I identify as a non-binary demi-person, half elf, broni-kin! Im offended! Its never enough with people so use the common word, understand its a word that wasnt meant for exclusivity as to only men because that would be silly.

    • @Rorschach313
      @Rorschach313 6 років тому

      Andrew Hughes Intent with language is more important then specific words in my opinion. Especially since people can easily get caught up with the finer minutia of "what did he REALLY mean?" Its pretty easy to sus out what a person mean by how theynsay something rather then whats said. Just look up Louie C.K.s "Jews" bit: "Jew is the correct word for talking about someone Jewish, but if you put a little stank on it it becomes a negative term." Its all about how someone says something rather then what they say usually.

    • @gustikrof189
      @gustikrof189 6 років тому +3

      i totally agree with your first point. and if he would have said something along the lines like "i use common man to refer to all people, its just the term i use for it" it would have been totally ok with me. but he is saying that men are the majority among his subscribers, so he doesnt care about the 5 percent of women who watch him because they arent as important. i think it is true when he says that there is nothing sexist behind it. because in my opinion it just seems unpolite.
      to the second point... i guess you can assume that. but youll never know for sure until it happens. in my opinion it would be dumb too yeah, but at the moment we arent talking about a non-binary demi-person, half elf, broni-kin. we are talking about women who enjoy his content and would like to be included in the group he is refering to when talking about his audience or the people using the suggested tools.

    The Harbor freight larger floor jacks like the 3 ton one are pretty damn solid jacks. I've had mine for years now and installed a few lift kits, over 20 leveling kits, changed ball joints, etc and, rotated my tires many times and the jack is still working perfectly fine. No leaks, only greased the pivot a few times a year. Great jack for the money for the DIY person.

      Yes you are right. They have a box end and an open end so that makes them a combination wrench. The box end wrenches have a box end wrench on both ends and an open end wrench has an open end on both ends. The combination wrench has taken over in popularity.

    I'm really enjoying these videos. I understand how difficult it must be to whittle down to a list like this. I'm in complete agreement so far. One thing I'd like to add though is that anyone looking for socket sets for heavy work should look at the 3/4" drive sets at Harbor Freight. You can get a SAE and Metric for $60 each and have extra ratchet/extension in case one breaks. I never though I'd need a 3/4 drive set for anything short of a tractor or truck over 1 ton but my little S-10 required a 3/4 drive set for the axle nuts (I broke several 1/2 drive sockets and ratchets).

  • @drewcarey13
    @drewcarey13 6 років тому +2

    I love watching all of your videos and enjoy your content! I disagree on only getting 1/2 inch socket set if you can only get one. 1/2 inch is really heavy and cant fit in some places you may need tighter clearances. The 3/8 set is in the middle of 1/4 and 1/2 for a reason :) i think that is the perfect set if only getting one.

    In regards to the breaker bar, my dad showed me that in a pinch(Which is really my go to method.) you can use a steel pipe slid over a ratchet hand to extend the length and essentially turn it into a breaker bar. I know that's not ideal but especially with a cheap ratchet but it has worked for me on many a car project.

    Thanks for doing this series, it is really fun to watch. I have to diss agree on your jack recommendation though. I do auto body work for a living, and have been using a harbor freight floor jack for 2 years now without a problem. It has been a great tool, at probably 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of a tool truck jack, that will more than likely will be Chinese made anyway. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to the next video in the series.

    The big boy silky has serrated teeth, and for a small hand saw, it makes large branches no problem! I had not bought a chain saw for the fact that these serrated tooth hand saws are so good!

    In the UK we use imperial (standard) measurements more than you may think. We buy beer in pints, measure height in feet, distance in miles and yards, weight in stone and pounds and ounces and speed in mph!

    Hey cody, i’ve been a huge fan of you for god knows how long and am a huge fan of what you do on this channel. I had a question about homesteading, mainly about getting into it and what to do and such? I’ve been thinking about it for a while since im very soon graduating highschool. If you could answer back that’d be much appreciated :)

    The Little Giant ladder one of the best all around ladders made. American made. So good most fire departments have one and they make one just for the fire service.

    Speaking as a (Canadian) landscaper but not on behalf of all landscapers, I'd say (1) Garant makes a really good quality commercial grade dirt/bow/hard rake; and (2) if you're trying to replace a chainsaw with a handsaw I'd argue the merits of silky's pistol grip fixed blade saws over their folding ones all day. That would be something like the Zubat or Sugoi. Not that the folders aren't good, they're great, but from a production standpoint I'd put them second place.
    Great vids, I love this series. Cheers.

    I straight up broken a 1/2 breaker bar without a pipe it was trying to get a crankshaft pully bolt off. I also have used Pittsburgh (Harbor Freight) floor jack and it's served me well working on cars. However, I recommend going the next grade up and get the Daytona low profile jack.

    Used a 20 ton bottle jack and my house as a hydraulic press. I was rehandling a Peavey and I had to press the point into the handle to lock the head in place, so I went into my basement put the handle under the center 2x12's of my house, bottle jack on the floor and presto.

    Funny thing is I broke a 1/2 snap on breaker bar yesterday at work. I work in a industrial metal fab shop and had to release a crushed cross threaded 3/4 bolt in a docking cylinder.

    There are special sockets for spark plugs, they prevent breaking and gently grip the spark plug with a rubber ring, so you can pull it out with the socket

    I have to say a good torque wrench is an important tool. I hate stripping bolts, and having mower blades to pop off. I bought an older snap on torque wrench 16 years ago, and still use it every time I can.

    Dremel/ Rotary tool. I haven't really seen you use one, but they can do everything (albeit on the small scale). I've stripped off cerakote, I've carved steel, I've sharpened larger tools (like a hoe), polished and buffed surfaces, cut glass, deburred, rounded wood, and so much more with mine. They really are the most versatile tool for small scale work, and can work ANY material

    Love your Videos! Swedish Bow Saw, instead of the big Boy. Even better, a Reciprocating (cordless or corded) saw will replace your big-boy, bow saw and hacksaw. PS (You had three hammers, remember the sledge hammer. :)

    So far I´m missing a standard mora knife and a carpenters/small forest axe.
    Thank you for doing this, not only do I find this series useful, but I´m considering putting together such a kit, if you could call it a kit, for my stepdaughter, tool by tool and year by year, she´s six and a half now but I want to raise her to be strong, confident and independent... God jul och Gott nytt år, with regards from Sweden
