I installed a CB 560 HDX at my son’s house last October(2021). So this is the start of the 2nd year’s usage. Love the app, and the ability to monitor what the furnace is doing! We burn a mix of pine & hardwoods. The gasicafication process is very interesting to watch. The only problem I would mention is the loading of the firebox. The wood needs to be split smaller than a regular updraft burner. We have experienced issues where the wood will will “ burn out” around the secondary air- charge tube, leaving a space, and the wood/ charcoal above doesn’t fall down & fill that space! It’s all about the finesse of loading the wood. That was an issue today, went down because of a “ fire-out” notification, found 1/2 a load of wood/charcoal in the firebox. Moved things around, refired the wood/charcoal with a propane torch, things got back to normal….. Did clean the reaction chamber & heat exchanger for the first time this year, been burning for 2 weeks now. Less than a 5 gallon bucket of ashes……. Hi Bill...I couldn't agree more with your experience and tips. I had the exact same experience last week, so I decided to shut everything down and clean the 760 completely. The weather was mild so it gave me the window to do this maintenance. Going forward I am going to clean more often, I hope that solves the issue you mentioned. We have always split our wood so that won't be a change, our older boiler wood burn pretty much anything (& any size). We are burning red & white oak up here in Maple City, MI. Have you measured the moisture of the wood your burning. Cut a few pieces in half, measure the center and the outside and average. CB recommends no wetter than 20% but the dryer the better (up to a certain point). I tried 18 to 20% when I first got my 750 but it bridged like you guys. All the problems went away below 16%. Since then I've burnt ~25 cords with the fire going out only when I run it out of wood. The dryer you get it the bigger the pieces you can burn. At 12% I can burn 8 to 12" by 24" rounds with no bridging (dry standing dead poplar yard clean up, LOL).

We think our issue was software related, CB contacted us an had us update our Firestar, the last few weeks it has been running like a champ. Who would have thought a software update could be part of the issue ;-) Thanks!!
@@UpNorthNybergs glad it's working better for you. If you have space to season wood longer you can burn larger pieces. I notice longer burn times with larger pieces just like a conventional boiler, just takes longer to get the whole chunk dry. Lots of people use the IBC cages to store and move it around. The cages are expensive here due to this. I built pallets out of 2x4s to store my wood and bought an old forklift to move them. They hold just over 3/4 of a cord, double an IBC. Phase 2 will hold 1.5 and be steel, just need time.
@@yetilikesbeer I use the IBC’s too, mainly for emergency storage. I have a good sized carport that can handle the heavy snow load up here in N MI. I like seeing how others do it, I adopt the best ideas and try to share. Be safe, Ed
Hi Scott, my old Wood Doctor could handle any size that I could reasonably lift, this CB HDX760 is much different. The firebox capacity is 24 cubic ft. I am adding smaller split pieces (16"-18") per the experience of others that I researched. These smaller pieces help lower the moisture content and burn much better, thus I am using less wood than the Wood Doctor. If you are concerned on the size you can add, most recommend not going with a gasification (gasser) unit. I hope that helps...thanks for watching!
Hi Ken, I can't give you a drawing, but the boiler is approximately 150' down the hill from the house. So my closed loop system is around 300' (supply and return). The distance can me mitigated by a lot of things, the insulated tubing, pump sizes, pump locations (either at supply or return or both). My distance is probably on the higher end versus others, but I have seen many others work great at longer distances, especially if you are heating multiple buildings (house, garage, pole barn, etc.). I do use a larger pump to move water up the hill (located at boiler) and I may need to add a pump in the basement in the future, but right now everything is working really well. The BTU rating is 245,000 btu/hr for the Central Boiler 760, my old wood boiler's rating was 525,000 btu/hr. However, in order to get it to that btu rating you need to completely fill up the fire chamber (which is enormous) and keep it filled. This new unit has produced much hotter water temps with a lot less wood. This is mainly due to the advancement of the combustion controller which does a much better job regulating the water temperature plus having the combustion chamber (gasification process). Thus, after using it for a couple of weeks, we haven't experienced any loss of heat versus the replaced unit. I will do some more videos comparing the two types of wood boilers, I just need more experience with the Central Boiler 760. Thanks for watching!

What is the btu rating? Does it increase as a gasification unit compared to old style?
The BTU rating is 245,000 btu/hr for the Central Boiler 760, my old wood boiler's rating was 525,000 btu/hr. However, in order to get it to that btu rating you need to completely fill up the fire chamber (which is enormous) and keep it filled. This new unit has produced much hotter water temps with a lot less wood.
