- SURFING CODE RED BARRELS IN SAN DIEGO. The golden state of California lit up this week with a large South Swell. The Code Red II swell started in Tahiti at Teahupoo, then made its way to freight trains in Maalaea on Maui, and finally to Southern California. Our team scored barrels in San Diego and the locals got the best waves!

WOW some of the best 🌊🌊🌊 I've seen from videos of this swell...looks like south county was definitely the place to be. Absolutely bonkers rides that would make your entire year. Too bad we don't have these swells more consistently like Bali.

These are the most beautiful waves I have ever seen roll through SD, or most any place for that matter. And the driver of the jetski punching through the barrel at 5:36 deserves an award.

April 27 of this year got whiplash. Missed every swell so far. Life is like that sometimes. These wipeouts look whiplash worthy for sure. Be careful. Thanks for sharing. Best barrels in San Diego county I’ve seen in awhile. Looking to miss the next batch as well. Water 70 in Oceanside. Killing me slowly. Great job filming
I got hit in 2000 from behind and my neck has never fully recovered. If you got hit don't sign anything from the other guy's insurance for at least a year.

Very nice guys as when I lived out in SD 1987-'89 as I used to run along Coronado beach regularly I never noticed the surf like this- have fun!
I’m with you, I lived in PB at the same time. Hospital point was my favorite spot to surf. Just around the corner from wind and sea.

Nice video. I like the sound of the surf more than music, so thanks. I wouldn't say Maalaea is on the North Shore of Maui though. Looking at the map, it's more like west, which makes sense being it breaks with a south swell.

god damn primo conditions here. has to be an all time swell for this spot. Never seen people chip into the barrel from the outside
you need the step up to do it. have that extra buoyancy to paddle in and then get enough initial speed to connect through

There’s several clips of lots of surfers out there on a wave but they aren’t standing surfing…. The guy who actually is able to stand and surf, seems like it could be dangerous with other people out in the water with boards. Makes me wonder how common surfer accidents happen involving a surfer riding over someone accidentally. I also wonder how big of a pain in the butt it is to retrieve your board after a wave wiped you out. When I was a kid I had a boogie board but i had a cord that attached me to it.
When you ride a barrel w your back to the wave it’s pretty standard to squat very low w your back knee nearly on the board and grab the rail w your hand. And they do have leashes that tether them to the board.

100% NOT Big Rock. But I’ll give you a hint…if the cameraman pointed his camera a little north versus a little south or straight out, then he’d be filming Big Rock.
