I don't think people really understand or appreciate Garp and his character. The man is LITERALLY haki, hands, determination and commitment. He could've EASILY been an Admiral whenever he wanted, at any point but he CHOOSES not to be. He doesn't use nor have DF powers and even in his "older" stage, he's STILL one of the strongest OP characters to ever exist. Oh and he's mf Luffy's GRANDPA.

Garp was feared and respected around the world. He was considered an anomaly by both the pirates and marines alike. It isnt that aokiji is mid or not strong, aokiji is still among the strongest in the world, however garp is an anomaly , garp in his prime was unbeatable, he could barge in and attack any pirate crew and always make it out fine, thats why despite in old age, we see a flash of the man garp was, no fear, no big grand strategies, just got his fists and barges in and destroys half the island.

Luffy is very much like garp in alot of the ways, its just that he is way more goofy.
