I've returned several times to enjoy this, Mike Selden was my very favorite D.J. while we had those wonderful days of AM radio. I started listening to him when he was on KXOL, and gladly followed him to KLIF before I had to move away too far to hear DFW stations. The day Elvis died, I was listening to him, and when he said please stop calling, his voice was so sad, it broke me up so much.
I'm a little surprised that KLIF still played 45's at that time. Many stations had started putting all the music on carts. Thanks for sharing this wonderful blast from the past.
Many regional or larger stations played Currents and Re-Currents on carts. "Gold" or "Oldies" hits, were pulled and played on 45's and sometimes LP, but mostly 45's. The Top rated Top-40 & MOR stations I grew up listening to did it that way in the early 1970's.
In the early 90's I left the Philadelphia area to go to college in Dallas and learned about KLIF through personal research on "Boss radio". I walked past the old station trying to imagine what it was like and the great times they had like others during that time besides "my" WFIL. Oh man...that shot of him in the Triangle Point Building with those cars passing by @1:46...I'm very grateful for this snippet to see "life" happening. But, knowing the "shell" it had later become and how most peeps born from 1980 onwards don't have a clue what took place there...sad man, just sad. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, this guy is top notch smooth!👍
Back then, you could call in and actually talk to the DJs and request a song. I’d walk in my apartment, turn on the radio, and not turn it off until I walked out the next morning. I asked Mike Selden why he was on both KLIF and KNUS, and he said KLIF paid more, but he could be more creative and free on KNUS. Ken Dowe, Cousin Lenny, Dick Heatherton, Jim Hilty (Mother)…all of them were such a part of my life.
One of the great 1970's Presenters/DJ's! A golden voice plus educated awareness. The golden wheatfields of Alberta Canada. Imagine any US Jock having this awareness today?
Checking on when a couple of songs Selden played was released.. IT appears this was around Oct-Nov of 1971.. Randy A Carlisle 🎙🎤 (KSGV-955fm/Seagoville Tx) .. The Real & (the now) Retro Oldie Shows
Excellent on air work. Good sounding jock.

I WORKED WITH MICHAEL SELDEN AT KNUS IN DALLAS 1978-1979. I WAS SAD TO HEAR HE PASSED AWAY A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO.
I love this!! Selden, one my biggest local influences for sure!! R.I.P. Michael Seldon.. Sorely missed.
Thanx for sharing this !!
Selden was one of the best DJ’s!

Judging with the way he threw a cart across the room those studio machines and cartridges weren't too reliable at that station...lol

Surely, there's gotta be more of this from Michael Selden.. This was great!!
Randy A Carlisle 🎙🎤 (KSGV-955fm/Seagoville Tx) .. The Real Oldies Show
Good Jock, very solid at communicating more than the basics, great timing.
THAT guy knows how to work that microphone. He's not just bouncing his head around for no reason.

I am thinking this is the week of October 17th as he mentioned the Cowboys and Saints game. I looked it up and they played that week.

I like his voice
Thanks for sharing. Was this recorded on film? Great stuff!
A shoutout to “Cowboy Weaver”, lol!!
RCA 77DX......did not hurt his voice either....ribbon mics are just amazing
Very interesting video. Wonder what voice processor they're using?
Johnny Sunshine ( Fever)?
Johnny Fever wishes/wished he could have been Mike Selden. 😉
Tired. Had physical therapy twice today, arms and hands and then hips & legs and I am beat up.
October Or November 1971.
I heard drug abuse was his undoing.
Why is he wearing sunglasses inside? (wink)
DJs are notoriously insecure.
Trim Dependible Headphones.
Now DJs are as extinct as Milk Men
That's a good analogy...sad to say though...
Hey, we love our Milk Men here in beautiful,Herefordshire and Gloucestershire,England! Now, on the other hand, good DJs are hard to find! 😉👍
@@bradleymccreary2223 Spot on mate, spot on!👍🏻
He's good but way too laid back for afternoon drive. Sounds like a 9-midnight jock.
HE WORKED AOR KNUS TOP 4O DAYS SUPER LAID BACK
This was Dallas AM radio back then. Latter-day jocks sound like they're either trying to be Ron (Ralph) Chapman (RIP), or are jacked on amphetamines.
It was all like that and supposed to be. That's the 70s.
Selden's ratings would beg to differ with you.
He sounds large and in charge.
