A lot of the trails at Snowshoe are named from their logging and Appalachian history. Hootenanny was used to name something which name couldn't be remembered, like "whatchamacallit". Ballhooter is a logger who rolls logs down steep slopes. Nice video!

Also a tip. The ballhooter lift is the most popular on the mountain so it’s always packed! There’s lifts that can save you time besides standing in that line forever
