    How to know when spider and bell are worn & need replacing? Is it merely the top ends? or what if signs of catching up the spider? Original worth keeping?

    • @kickbackgarage
      @kickbackgarage  2 роки тому +1

      If the spider has groves in it then the plates won't slide up and down. The same with the clutch bell. Replacing will be necessary.

    Can I ask why you have not used chain guides as they have in sticky's i always follow the book as i,m watching your shows thanks

    • @kickbackgarage
      @kickbackgarage  2 роки тому

      Original type lower chain guides have a tendency to fail. They let go and wrap themselves round the sprockets.

      i know it’s 2 years since the question was asked about the lower chain guide but hopefully be of some use to someone…
      as rob says , they fail and jam between the chain / sprocket as i’ve just experienced… totally locked my crank thankfully at low speed on a roundabout but i still came off …. just like a heat seizure but no warning so never got a chance to pull clutch in .. back wheel totally locked .. pic attached .

    What clutch plates was used Rob ?
    My setup was 5 plate Bgm red with dogears turned up for the bottom, bottom steel was 2.0 followed by 1.2/1.2 then 1.0 and top clutch plate with dogeears turned down with final top plate 2.5. Works very well with no slip or drag, mb springs so has a very light lever action

    Can you offer advice relating too cranks on small block engines when updating cylinder kits , which then means so many upgrade ie crank , exhaust , carb , clutch bearings seals it’s a nightmare , especially when your told by shops don’t waste time on some of the big names are not worth it ,
    I’ve chosen the RT195 after finding another kit failed too impress possibly because of said advice from certain shops .

    I have very low compression on my GP200, I took out and replaced the cylinder base and head gaskets, re set the kickstart, but still poor compression - obviously a leak somewhere but is there anything else I may have missed

      I think I would do a leak down test and if it's air tight then check your ring gap.

    Hi Rob, have just done some of this work and found that when only a fairly light amount of torque is put on to tighten the main nut the spider wont run freely on the clutch bell. There is one shim behind the bell which I haven't measured. Would you suggest a thicker shim to lift the tightened spider off the bell? Any other suggestions? Thanks

    • @kickbackgarage
      @kickbackgarage  3 роки тому

      Hmm.. 🤔 That's a problem I actually haven't had to deal with. I know that mb make different thickness of shim to fit behind the spider to enable the spider to sit taller. This is a question for a grown up and I would suggest that you read the mb tech page on setting up the clutch or giving them a call. I'm simply not qualified to answer, I'm afraid. Would love to hear what they say though.

      @@kickbackgarage I did get over this problem with a bit thicker shim beneath the clutch basket. Just noticed when watching this again that you tightened the clutch centre bell nut to 22-25ft lbs as you read it from Sticky's but the front sprocket is 22-25 but the clutch centre nut is 48.5-50.5, apolgies if anyone else has already spotted this and commented

    Hi Rob, another great video. I'm just fitting a new clutch to my Li and referring to Sticky's as well as watching your video. Looking at the torque setting for the clutch bell nut in Sticky's. 6.7-7.5 KG-M 48.5- 50.5LBS-FT. I think you only set it to 22-25

    • @kickbackgarage
      @kickbackgarage  3 роки тому

      Maybe. I hate hearing my own voice, so can't re watch 😂 I'm not worried though. Once the gear cluster is through, there is very little movement from low to high torque. I don't really use torque on anything but the head tbh, but don't encourage others to neglect it. It won't loosen because of the tab washer. I think it's more to make sure the spider and gear cluster are fully home. If it's true that I got it wrong then good spot! It's also different values from the Spanish, Italian and Indian factorys. Which is a bit weird 🤷‍♂️
