In this video taken from a Dutch TV series, Steve Nallon goes in search of the Thatcher SPITTING IMAGE puppet to re-examine the Thatcher 1980 conference speech.
SPITTING IMAGE was an award winning British television satirical puppet show which was hugely popular during the Thatcher era of the 1980s. The puppets, caricaturing public figures, were designed by Peter Fluck and Roger Law (Fluck and Law), two illustrators and sculptors who had previously worked mostly for print. John Lloyd, producer of NOT THE NINE O'CLOCK NEWS and BLACKADDER, was the show's founding comedy producer. The show ran from 1984 to 1994 for over 18 series and was nominated during its run for 10 BAFTA Television Awards, and won two Emmy Awards in 1985 and 1986 in the Popular Arts Category.
The main long serving voice actors were Chris Barrie, Jon Glover, Steve Nallon, John Thomson, Harry Enfield, Alistair McGowan, Hugh Dennis, Enn Reitel, Kate Robbins and Steve Coogan. The puppeteers included Anthony Asbury, Nigel Plaskitt, Simon Buckley, Don Austen, Michael Bayliss, Richard Coombs, Kevin Bradshaw (Kaefan Shaw), Alistair Fullarton, Louise Gold, Barnaby Harrison, Brian Herring, Patrick Comerford, Sue Dacre, Phil Eason, Mark Jefferis, William Todd Jones, Terry Lee Wright, Gillie Robic, Martin P. Robinson, Richard Robinson, Tim Rose, John Thirtle, Robert Tygner, Francis Wright and Steve Nallon.
The voices Steve provided for SPITTING IMAGE include in this selection Robert Runcie (Archbishop of Canterbury), David Attenborough, Bruce Forsyth, Shirley Williams, Enoch Powell, Clive Jenkins (union leader), Harold Wilson (former prime minister), Alan Bennett, Denis Healey (former chancellor), The Queen Mum, Margaret Thatcher, Edward Heath (former prime minister), David Frost and the Polish speaking Pope John Paul the Second. Other voices not included in this selection that Steve provided include Malcolm Rifkind, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Leonard Rossiter. - Ігри

Oh wow very nice to see those who did voice acting for 2 of the numerous puppets. And I'm quite impressed Maggie and her husband puppets are in very good condition despite they're made of latex. I have been foolish enough to stick at a job for 40 years which involves working inside the homes of far too many Thatcher Worshippers. Unless one has an extremely thick skin , The Self Importance of these folk makes the work 100 times more difficult than it should be. I blame myself but customers of this ilk have contributed to the depression I’ve had to be treated for . 😮😁❤️

Is the closed-caption text (teletext) at 11:51 correct?... "It is sweet isnt it? - to know that they are together." - photentically a 'q...' sounded word is heard near to 'sweet'. Steve maybe you can clarify if you actually said or meant 'sweet'? :-)
