    WOW! Ford engineering really dropped the ball on this transmission tail housing! I mean who ever is in charge of signing -off on this engineering design/flaw needs to have some knowledge of metallurgy and the stresses involved here! Good work my man!

    THANK YOU ! AAMCO "diagnosed" the problem as a bad pan gasket and wanted the low, low price of $880 US Dollars to take 14 bolts out and put them back in. I didn't think it was the pan gasket so I started investigating and found this video. You might as well have filmed in on our E-350. It looks exactly the same. My wife said "It looks just like the video!" The only issue I'm having is the link you have leads me to a part that has the same number on it the picture that is shown (RF-F3LP-7A040-AA) that is different than what is in the description (F4TZ-7A039-C). Need to find out if that fits mine. But again, thanks for your help!!.

    I just noticed a leak in that area on my '07 E-250. I was wondering if it was the gasket but this makes so much more sense. Now I have to do a good cleaning of the area to make sure this is definitely the problem before going any further.

    Those of us who own and have modded our Crown Vics know these tailshafts all too well. There's a long and short version for us (or police/civilian). One is stronger than the other. If you ever plan to change the final drive ratio in your Crown Vic it would be wise of you to do research before jumping in.

    Crazy late to this comment feed. I’ve seen multiple sizes listed for the part 10.25”, 10.5” and 11.25”…. Which would be correct for a ‘06 F-150 with a 4.6L?

    • @jacobemerson4799
      @jacobemerson4799 2 роки тому

      It would be 10.25 or 11.25 there isn't a 10.5. This is measured from top to bottom without the tailshaft seal installed. Hope this helps.

    Good evening had a question about the 4r75e. I have a 06 roush F150 I’m working on the customer said the transmission was recently rebuilt it shifts great but once it gusts 4th gear tcc locked there is a huge vibration. I removed the drive shaft last night and noticed the output shaft on the transmission have a good amount of movement up down and side to side. how much (end play) movement should the output shaft have?

    There is also an o-ring on the output shaft, that would be a good idea to replace while you have the housing out. I've only done this on this on Crown Victoria's, so I don't know if the trucks have it also.

    Kudo's for doing this like most shadetree mechanics would be doing it - up on jack stands! I find myself in the position to be doing this exact replacement, the only thing I can mention is I am finding that there's 2 different lenght tail housings ( 10 1/2" & 11 1/4") so I hope people check and measure well before ordering parts. I also laugh at the immense amount of rust thats on the bottom of this Chicago area vehicle ( just like mine since I live here also)

      Look up the Jmod. The procedure is named after one of the designers of the trans (Jerry) and he came up with it. It's the only good way to firm up your shifts. Whatever you do NEVER get one of those shift kits for these transmissions. According to Jerry they fool with stuff the computer should be doing, and things get screwed up.

      maybe its not leaking through the crack in mount leg but maybe just through the gasket due to tailshaft being tilted up from the rust pressure, have you examined the inside of a cracked tailshaft?

    • @DickTickles
      @DickTickles 5 років тому

      Yeah, I'm not sure where the actual leak is coming from either, the crack doesn't seem to go fully through to the inside of the housing. I was thinking it could be from the gasket too, but it's possible during use the movement of the vehicle and heat opens up the crack more.

    Wouldn't a thin rubber pad be better than anises that will wash away?

      Its bolted down so tight it would be hard to wash it away that why they call it never leaves but a thin dielectric pad could work also but would likely break down faster.

    one that boggles me is the vertical play some of these have in the railshaft due to bushing or whatever . the way it changes due to the angle of the shaft is also weird

    Anyone know of a decent Ford repair shop near glendale CA, I have a 05 F150 with a P0174 bank 2 lean code on top of that it can't accelerate over 35. Popping sound when floored and no power. I have exhausted my patience with this truck.
    New plugs new coils, new fuel pump. I have ruled out O2 sensors, MAF, Fuel Inj Press Sensor, Swapped injectors bank to bank. R&R intake manifold w new gaskets and brake booster hose. Cats read less that 1/2 psi at 2500 rpm. No change at all. Long term fuel trims are 24+ at 2000 RPM. Bank 1 runs slightly rich bank 2 runs very lean.
    I just needs shop that knows what it is doing.

    Did that driveline come from a salvage from the Titanic? That rust is scary.

      The counties spray sodium chloride and salt the hell out of the northern roads. Normal for the vehicles, especially if parked in a garage overnight.

    I just recently dropped my driveshaft from the front on the highway an apparently the shop tells me that housing is cracked.. All could have been worse, but new ujoints, new driveshaft an then the tail of the transmission repair. Already at about 400 bucks an now needs to get towed to another shop to do the trans work.. The depression is real. 02 f150 xl

      They say when the shaft broke free it whacked the heck out of it. But everything else looks good so far regarding the rear end/differential so yea, happy for that at least, could have been worse for sure
