Pink Floyd is ALWAYS a journey of the mind!

For a song all about communication I love the end with the voice box. Gilmour is famous for how he can wring so much emotion from his guitar, it’s how he truly expresses himself, so to end the song with his voice and guitar becoming one is utterly beautiful and emotional for me. For me, the lyrics refer to a personal inability to express yourself, in my case it speaks of my own social anxiety. I would rather “sit in a corner, so no one will bother me” than put myself front and centre in social situations.

The talk box was primarily brought to public attention by Peter Frampton in the 70s. Songs like Do You Feel Like We Do and Show Me The Way are prime examples.

That tube David uses is called Talk Box.
It is a device that has a piezoelectric capsule that is inserted into the mouth (I advise each guitar player to have his own. It is very unhygienic), which is connected to a pedal or amplifier, and by which the sound of a guitar is modulated and distorted by the voice.
It is not David Gilmour's voice itself, but the sound of his guitar being modulated by his voice.

Hawking was a great example of the accomplishments of the left brain as Gilmour is to the accomplishments of the right brain. Perhaps when two such men collaborate we should pay attention to their message.

Glad you enjoy Pink Floyd as much as I do........David Gilmore has such a clean sound

So the sound from his guitar is playing through that plastic tube, where it echoes inside the player’s mouth, then the sound is picked up by the vocal mic... so not only can Dave play a note and bend the string with his left hand(to change the pitch), but he can then also “bend” the note with his mouth to give it even more emotion. IMO nobody can squeeze more emotion out of a single note or chord then David Gilmour can.

Gilmore used a thing called a B box in Keep Talking
It is a tube that he puts in his mouth and uses it as an extension to the guitar. Wonderfull

If I'm repeating someone else, I apologise but the actual video footage from the 'Pulse' show is available on youtube, worth watching. Once again a great reaction , thank you. May I suggest 'Learning to Fly or On the Turning Away' studio versions, two of Pink Floyds finest but underrated tracks.

A truly prophetic song. Nearly all of the problems in this world could be solved, if people just acted like adults and talked. Oh, and a sad thing about this video, one of the three female vocalists, Claudia Fontaine, died March 13th 2018........one day before Stephen Hawking, also featured in this song :(
And the 'mouth machine' is a Talk Box. I'll quote Wiki
"A talk box is an effects unit that allows musicians to modify the sound of a musical instrument by shaping the frequency content of the sound and to apply speech sounds (in the same way as singing) onto the sounds of the instrument. Typically, a talk box directs sound from the instrument into the musician's mouth by means of a plastic tube adjacent to their vocal microphone. The musician controls the modification of the instrument's sound by changing the shape of the mouth, "vocalizing" the instrument's output into a microphone"
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_box

The talk box use the single from the guitar. Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton use this well.

Wow! Thank you both so much! Haha, I loved your attempts at creating 'that' sound haha.
This is a special song. The meaning behind it is very close to me.... I feel it's about never letting yourself be alone, even when life is hard, never give up and keep talking when you can. Without communication, we are losing what makes us human.
Stephen Hawking actually provided the vocal parts.

Keep Talking and Wearing The Inside Out are songs from The Division Bell; the central theme of that album is (lack of) communication. Please react to more songs from Pulse, all of them are amazing. My favourite is High Hopes, it's magical. But make sure you react to a 60 fps version (so search for "High Hopes Live Pulse 60fps"), because all the regular uploads have poor audio quality.

@@swinetrek It's my second favourite version, after Pulse. Yes, it's great. Gdansk is a close third.

P.U.L.S.E. is the best album ever. But mine needs new battery. I don't find my way to living room in the dark without that pulsing red led.

It wasn't allowed for reactions in India. We did watch the LIVE performance but were forced to post only the audio of it. CHEERS.
