Thanks for checking out the podcast! Things are about to get CRAZY, we can tell! Also just want to apologize for the short delay in videos the past couple days. The delay was because it took me extra time to edit the podcast, but even when I finished editing it (at 5am 2 days ago), I accidentally scheduled it for the 7th instead of the 6th 🤦♂ And we slept in that day so we couldn't just post it in the middle of the day or it would ruin the video's potential. So it had to wait til now. We also know that this is not the first delay. We've been slipping more and more with youtube. Not just here either. On the main channel, we normally post about 20-25 videos a month. In December we only posted a total of 8... This is not good. Its actually embarrassing, and we're sick of it. We're trying to turn things around, and we intend to turn 2025 into our biggest year yet. We hope you'll be there with us for it!
Thank you! That's all people really need, just some small post showing that you're aware the delays aren't cool and want it to happen less. Now people can start looking forward to improvements. Good luck with the channel!
Haki, we forgot your updated thoughts on Haki, we saw Raleigh knocked people out seemingly directed at everyone not a straw hat. We saw Sentomarou block Luffys rubber ability, then The snake sister do the same thing. Thinking about it we saw Raleigh stop Kizaru with a kick and a sword from using his Light powers. Luffy awakening some Conquerers Spirit in Amazon lily and with Duval's Bull Metabalo, maybe Zoro against those random guys on Sabaody, and thinking about Zoros intimidated ppl before with fighting Spirit like Kaku with his Asura Aura, even in the courthouse he had like a death reaper aura, and on Sabaody the other Supernovas talked about an aura he released when he was about to cut down the celestial. Randomly too, did we notice the sisters were predicting Luffys moves in the ring, did that make you think of any other group of villains.
When Arlong arrives in Coco village one of the first things a villager shouts is "The rumors are true! The Fish-Man pirates of the Grand Line have split up and a band of them are here!". I think this does a really good job at showing that Oda always had in mind that there is a lot more to the story of the Fishmen than what we see during Arlong Park.
Exacly! And also the fact that jinbe was mentioned early on, even before we met the first fishmen (And at that time, Oda planned to make the shichibukai the main villains of the show) So it is obvious that he had a backstory in mind. Nami's tattoo was not a coincidence.
@cypressxsg4815 definitely not the worst. I've seen much worse who just reacts to make a few dollars. But these guys defo try theorizing. Its just that he doesn't give Goda enough credit.
@@otaviolacerda7790 its not a bait. This channel is the bait its self. Its disappointing. There is nothing wrong in theorizing and getting it ‘wrong’. But this channel kept disparaging every story telling triumph that an author can make. They should just stop its very irritating hearing this obviously very biased views/thoughts and pretending to be very good at analyzing stories when most of the time its wrong
Kokoro’s not half-mermaid half-human, she already explained (you just forgot) that every mermaid once they’re 30 yo their tailfin splits in two so they could live on land.
One Piece will always have lots of comedy, that's what Oda likes in his story. Sabaody is just the first time where he actually committed to telling a more darker side of the world which is pretty cool.
yeha i wouldn't say he falls onto comedy as a crutch or just because he got bored or couldn';t think of anything, he jsut does the comedy cause that's what he finds fun in the story c: Hell, even DBZ had comedy
23:53 thats what makes the the series so rewatchable. Every few hundred episodes gives all new meaning and realizations to the previous. I enjoy the story more each time
Oda had it all planned. One thing you didn't notice is that Arlong's base is unusually called Arlong Park and looks like a circus/theme park in the middle of the sea. Very unusual for a pirate. Why? Is it just his quirk? You won't be able to tell. Until you learn from hachi that every young fishman and mermaid's frustration as they grow up is that they cannot enter the famous Sabaody Theme Park..they can only watch it's lights and sounds from a safe distance, wishing they are like humans who can freely get inside
Oda has confirmed that the One Piece is something physical (doesn't have to be money/treasure), so not just the friends we made along the way, the enjoyment of the adventure or something like that.
its also because as a kid a show he liked ended with the reveal that the treasure at the core of the plot was something along those lines, and Oda was Like "fuck you I want my gold" and so decided the One Piece wouldn't be that XP
the morality of characters has way more layers than its given credit here. its clear from episode 1 that luffy isnt a typical good guy that helps anyone in need. Alvida is robbing a whole ship and Luffy says its not his problem. During Syrup Village he tells Usopp the crew will help him not bc of sympathy but bc he's honorable. luffy's whole worldview is based on friendship and companionship. In Alabasta he defeated Crocodile not bc he wanted to help Alabasta, during the fight he states multiple times its ab his friend Vivi. Same in Skypea, same in Water 7, same Thriller Bark and thats just luffy, othet strawhats have other moral codes that differ from Luffy
Like name one other classic shonen MC who would walk into a slavehouse looking for a friend and would not even bat an eye about all the slaves there & walk out again unbothered... Luffy does not give an f about anybody at all unless he fw them, and if he does, he does not care about hurting 10 random innocent ppl just to help 1 of his friend Just because this moral greyness isn't explicitly discussed in the narrative, that does not mean it's not there
@@NmplolFriends 100% agreed. and thats just luffy, then theres characters like sanji who will feed absolutely anyone in need which is almost the complete opposite to luffy. th4e morality of the characters has a lot of discussion worthy material than whats talked ab here
@@NmplolFriends by morals HxH close. But they only care about mission targets. Other shonen mcs wouldn't become pirates in the first place, they'd choose to become marines soldiers like ninjas, shinigamis, state alchemists. Maybe not all anime watchers get that difference without straight confirmations, luckily in next arcs there are conversations about piracy is evil path no matter how good you are, and moments when they literally discuss should they help others or not
THIS Carson thinks a lot about the ins and outs when he doesnt have all the pieces yet, but the characters, morality, and intentions behind characters that are already there, he keeps ignoring them saying "is not deep just straight up he's a good guy" ignoring all the little details that Oda has been leaving
yeah, luffy will not save a kindgom because its the right thing to do, he will save a kindom because the princess is his friend and the bad guy trying to blow it up made her cry so luffy's gonna punch him. Luffy's morality is "if you're my friend, I will do anything to help you be happy, if you're not my friend at best i won't care about you and at worst i will punjch you in the face" fortunately Luffy's definition of friend is so loose and he's otherwise quite agreeable and friendlky enough that even simply being able to give him nice food is enough for him to decide you're his friend. He won'[t save a woman being punched by a bad guy, but he will save that same woman if earlier she did something fun with him like give him some meat. It's VERY subtle since noone directly calls it out but it's what makes luffy stand out as a hero and its odd that carson just writes it off as something less complex.
The reason of gol. d roger saying hes not dying is meant in a way because he inspired a whole new era of pirates in search of their dreams. His dreams and spirit still lives to this day. He solidified his greatness in history because of this spark that ignited this madness. He passed the stick to the next generation.
when does a man die? only when he is forgotten, with him introducing the GREAT PIRATE ERA, his name and will will continue to be remembered for ERAS to come
The talk about the language/cultural barriers actually reminded me of a small, yet very interesting detail from the Sabaody arc that was lost in translation (which has nothing to do with the comedy, BTW). When Kizaru faces Rayleigh, he actually speaks to him in a manner that suggests he's _wary_ of fighting him one-on-one. He even addresses him in a tone that displays respect to one's elders, possibly signaling that he holds some degree of reverence for his pirate enemy. Now personally, I never would have found this out if this wasn't pointed out to me long ago by a Japanese fan at a message board I frequently visit. I think it really goes to show just how fearsome a crew Roger had, and the impact they had on the marines.... Oh, and on a somewhat related note, Rayleigh's epithet is officially translated as the "Dark King". And while that's technically not wrong, his title in the original Japanese is "Meiou", which literally means something more like "King of the Underworld", or "Hades". Dunno about anyone else, but I think "King of Hades" sounds a lot more badass than "Dark King", but that's just me. 😉
I think the biggest revelation of Rayleigh's story is Roger turned himself in basically to stay 'alive'. anw, that prediction about Akainu personality is interesting, tho we already met the marine who's always wanted to do the right, right thing: good sir ship cutter cap'n T Bone.
Easy map explanation: North Blue is in the north, East blue in the east and so on. Paradise is between East and South Blues, New World is between North and West Blues. Oda doesn't normally stick to the convention of orienting maps to put north at the top. So, while the Grand Line looks like the equator, it's actually tilted.
i think the racial thing was also in the anime and manga, it was just more obvious in the live action because they dont know how far they will go. But if/when you guys read/rewatch arlong park, you can see that arlong is projecting A LOT, One piece is amazing on reread
Regarding Hachi and Live Action ... The showrunner Matt Owens said on a stream that Hachi was initially cut because of budget reasons. IF they get this far in the live action, they would just explain that Hachi had left the Arlong pirates earlier because of their brutality etc., which would actually make sense for the character.
21:53 when Oda was in East Blue the while story was planned out to the end imagine it all storyboarded out and as he draws "The Story GROWS with the Telling". seeds planted in East blue Definatly give fruit through out the series. also yes Oda is a Savant.
I'm not much of a reaction watcher, but yours caught my attention because you have some really good ideas and opinions about the series you react to. In fact, I'm watching your review of the episode more than the reaction itself. So this podcast episode looks promising!
At the end of Water 7, Garp told Luffy who his father is. It's not Roger. Multiple characters you've already met were at Roger's execution. He's dead. Hiriluk didn't mention a lot about Roger but Kureha did. The One Piece is a physical thing. Oda is not a fan of the typical shonen trope. Is it likely to be something with immense financial value? Probably not. But it is a thing. Amazon Lily - the only person who's in love with Luffy is Hancock. Everyone else may respect him, but they're not in love with him.
1:09:57 as you said, it all makes sense, sooner or later. Also, after 400 episodes nobody is thinking one piece is a monetory treasure, they've already been to a city of gold before 20% of the story was completed. Also, it wouldn't fit with Luffy's character.
yeah sorry about the lateness, we're making a big effort behind the scenes to prioritize things properly in our live and for the channel, I know we've been super inconsistent, but we're ready to turn things up to 11 this year. New content, consistent content, positive attitude. Its all coming up this year!
Oda puts a lot of breadcrumbs he can pull up later, you should know since you guys were the first i saw looking into architecture so much, like noticing the sand bags in enies lobby and the building patterns of jaya and other historical places, they are clearly links oda is hinting at, yes he drops some of those as red herrings, but most of them are incredibly consistent, pointing to him having at least some forethinking of the wider details
About your take on LA early revelations. My big problem with LA is that they blew their load way too early because of fear of cancellation. For example, Garp grandpa reveal doesn't hit nearly as hard in LA as it does when you're actually supposed to learn it in W7/EL & falls completely flat for me. Same for racism/Jinbe reveal & how it's subtly foreshadowed in manga/anime from the start (Arlong projecting HEAVILY & being insecure about what he is) & expands on it more & more as story goes forward. Especially when Oda himself says that LA producers & writers were the ones who talked him into including these early, even though he was completely against it at first. In a way you were robbed of a better experience of fishman plot/Baratie & Garp because of LA, but you get it now, why people felt that way back when you were reacting to East Blue anime. And now that discrimination plot's been revealed in anime, we can finally say that it was the LA writers who talked Oda into including these things early. Same for Garp being at Roger's execution... Which also contradicts some future stuff for me. Also Kid revealed why he hurt civilians. When they mocked his & his crew's dreams! That's why he's notorious. Though from his point of view as a pirate, it seems understandable to do that. Also we lost Going Merry in W7/EL, so it certainly wasn't only Zoro's sword in the end, let alone what Luffy, Usopp & Robin went through changing them forever. (I still cry every time watching 312) *pain* And another thing to point out. Akainu/Sakazuki is the one who blew up the civilian evacuation ship in Ohara flashback. So you've already seen him, albeit briefly. Last thing, Boa's face to me doesn't really look like Robin at all. Especially in manga. Face lines, nose and eyes are all different. Not only hair. Never saw the resemblance. All that said, great discussion as always! Loved it!
not every piece of media has 2 decades to slowly tell their story though. especially with LA and how bad the reputation of LAs was before one piece, they had to pack as many story points as possible into the few episodes while still somewhat staying true to the story. The pace and story telling style of manga and anime doesn't really translate well into a LA show.
@@sarangtamirisa5090don't get me wrong. I understand their reasoning, I just don't think it really achieved what they wanted. And honestly, I don't think LA would've lost anything sufficient if they didn't include racism or Garp especially.
@@PetarBladeStrok The problem for me is that including someone like Garp as a major character so early on, and revealing who he is makes the world seem so incredibly small. I loved seeing way more of Koby/Helmeppo, but Garp being revealed to be who he is so soon is just a mistake IMO. That plus he isn't even really the same character.
@@PetarBladeStrok Racism was a pretty small aspect in the first season and I think it gave more depth to Arlong instead of just being a bad dude(works for anime but not really for mainstream Live action shows). And adding Garp and coby story line made the plot engaging. They did it pretty well on how they connected the warlord system to the garp storyline(instead of being a random floating swordsman). You could argue that they should have left the warlord stuff for alabasta but again, they don't have as much time as the anime does so a little foreshadowing is good.
of course there were consequences, they were clearly struggling with a pacifista, so when kizaru and the other one in red, showed up, they were clearly in despair. If the Straw Hats managed to get out of it it was only thanks to Kuma, without him it would have been over. they suffered a horrible defeat against an admiral, and it would not have been the first.
For the thousandth time, the one piece is not something like "the friends we made along the way", not only oda has confirmed it by his own mouth, but also, stuff happens that i am not gonna spoil, but makes very clear that the one piece is something physical and that is actually important, i dont think is gold and treasure, but something else I know you want to feel like everyone who watches is just dumb and gullible and doesnt think deeply about stuff like you do, but most of the one piece community is made of people who overanalyze anything, we are know for going a bit to far with theories and making meaning of stuff that maybe was not intended, there is hours and hours of video essays about various topics in one piece and what different stuff means, and how stuff connects to the real world or myths, if most people who watched a lot more of the series than you are telling you they know one piece is something real and not an ideia, that is because we know it You both are smart people tho, so i think as you see as things unfold, you will understand how we are so sure, but either way, great video
41:24 I HATE this from the live action. Luffy would actually NEVER say "Im a different kind of pirate" like hes Mickey Mouse incarnated Dont get me wrong, one piece IS ABOUT good pirates, but theres a reason why Luffy never says it, because claiming it defeats the purpose of them being good pirates in the first place, they are not claiming righteousness, they do the righteousness without expecting praise for it, wich makes them truly righteous I was very dissapointed in the live action in that dialogue, and some others Luffy saying hes a different kind of pirate is cringe
*i don't think so but reply to me if any one think this a spoiler* : you guys already met akainu once. his full name is sakazuki akainu. the vice admeral who blow up civilian ship in robin flash back.
39:33 "A character like Blackbeard... in the lens of the whole story so far, I don't think we were supposed to see him as 'evil'. He is selfish, but that doesn't make him evil" 1- Kills a crewmate 2- Has an ugly, barbaric, grotesque appearance with 'manly' features 3- Destroys Chopper's home 4- Beats the protagonist's brother and gets him captured (to later be executed) 5- Has a crewmember who always looks 'sick' 6- Has a crewmember who beats people in town for fun 7- Has an entire crew with a 'serious and dark' theme 8- Intended to capture the protagonist 9- Makes Shanks worried about his "evil plans" Well... if you don't consider this 'evil' in the lens of One Piece, a charismatic and colorful show... I don't know what is."
1:05:30 We also get the confirmation that by looking for the One Piece you will get the real history of the world It was vagely hinted at but thats something important since we dont know what the one piece is but at least now we know that th real history of the world is part of the treasure, wich also sets a tone for what could it really be
Luffy’s morality was the only issue I had with the live action. He is quite a gray character in the anime but the live action really tried to paint that Disney- esque image on our boy Luffy. “I’m a different kind of pirate” and Shanks saying “Be good” were really pushing them into the traditional heroic image. I really want Luffy to say something like “Friend or Enemy? You decide for yourself” in the live action so bad!
Regarding the tattoo. Yes,it’s crazy right? I still remember how you guys talk about it in arlong park arc and now we can see how important and impactful tattoo is in the one piece world
Exactly that’s what I’m saying It’s just nice finding a case of CLEAR planning with little room for retconning. Obviously if you’re further into the series and look at Oda interviews, there are more examples of such. But as a first time watcher, it’s fun to see something that, without outside influence or confirmation, is without a doubt a planned thing. It’s not the first but it’s a really really good example
Not everything physical in terms of "treasure" has to corelate to money, Carlson. The One Piece could be Roger's stick that he left for someone that understands the true joy of walking around with a stick (like Luffy did in Skypiea ) and it would still count as a physical treasure even tho it has an emotional side to it. Idk why u are so stuck on the one piece being money and it wouldnt make sense for what we experienced so far or u just rly like the headcanon of being "the friends we made along the way" narrative.
@@BOLDcastOnePiece By definition headcanon is still an opinion. It doesnt have to be true or false. And its not that u're the only one having that train of thought. Im just curious how anything physical seems out of place or impossible to make sense. (again, it doesnt have to be money or a precious jewel or the like, money doesnt have to be all, end all, when someone thinks of treasure in a physical form). I love a lot of the ideas u had so far about a lot of things(that i might add, no one that ive seen, thought about) and it just feels with this one in particular u locked urself into this limited bubble. Idk, i just feel money/friend along the way feels too boring for a build up that is probably gonna be 30 years+ maybe more.
@@BOLDcastOnePiece it being something physical is horribly spread misinformation. he meant it more broad as something tangible, but also including things like the wisdom someone could get from a book
Before I even start watching, I gotta ask, man what is that filter/settings/effects that's on your camera/footage. It's just so damn pleasing to look at. I've always wanted to ask this. The review videos always look phenomenal.
We don’t put any filters on, I think the reason it looks good is because the room is dark and there’s light from one area. So there is less reflection off the walls and it makes things look very dramatic
@BOLDcastOnePiece I still can't believe it, but lowkey it gives the setting such a unique, chill and magical vibe. I absolutely love the lighting and stuff on these long review videos
Didn't you guys say you were gonna check out the Dragons OVA after Thriller Bark btw? What happened to that? Would love to have seen your reaction to it in close proximity... Also did you give up on (good) filler episodes entirely now? There was a really good introductory filler episode for Brook after he joined where we see him interact with every Strawhat on the Sunny. Kinda a shame you skipped that one.
We just fell behind But you’re right we should make time before we get too far away from it And we still want to watch good filler. The problem is since we’re getting to some crazy episodes, it’s harder to tell without spoiling ourselves which fillers are worth watching cause everyone just wants us to get to canon stuff and downplays the filler
@@BOLDcastOnePiece Thanks for the reply! Nice to hear you are still interested in that stuff. It's a bit of a shame since the imo best time to watch that OVA and that Brook filler was directly after Thriller Bark but if you are too busy atm then maybe get back to it after this current saga you guys are on is over? Just a suggestion. Although for the OVA you maybe could now also just wait until you guys get to the arc before the one the Anime is at atm.
One of the common misconception is that the grand line moves along the equator which is wrong it goes diagonally from northwest to south east kind of the north pole is not on the red line it is in the north blue the grandline and red line make an x on the globe not a cross
@34:00 mins in you guys talk about the joke with brook and chopper relaxing and this joke, I feel like, comes from the prospective of making fun of people who are critical of the straw hats for not waiting around for the crew to show up. The joke often revolves around luffy or someone else causing a ruckus or trouble, but this time its the opposite with trying to stay in one place and wait for everyone to show up before moving on. I also think you will start to see Oda give meta story telling. He does this often because someone guessed a future event or because someone made a good theory online. I think he is a lurker of the one piece community and tries to make sure they can't foretell too much of the story before it's penned down in the manga. This often leads to him changing the story bits around in an attempt to throw people off the trail.
We want to get serious with the one piece movies We want to start watching 1 every 2 weeks or month or so. But they will probably only be patreon exclusive
Sometimes, when I'm in crowded places, I see people of so many different shapes and sizes that it makes me appreciate Oda drawing so many different body types in his manga fr
Yoo Carson and Lindsay my man I love your reactions so much hope you respond to it but you need to know i eagerly wait for your One Piece reactions. Just enjoy the journey as much cause when you reach to latest episodes you will be weekly and you will feel empty.😊
I really hate the decision to introduce racism against fishmen right away. Before we get Nami's perspective. A village that had never seen a fishman before but never had anything against them until a bunch of fishmen show up at their doorstep, kill people, enslave Nami and claim the island as territory shaking down villages for money monthly, while preaching fishmen superiority. It to some extent instills in the audience a level of prejudice against fishmen. Racism is there as a theme, but we(humans) are the victims of prejudice. That is very slowly and subtly broken down such that when Tom is experiencing prejudice not just for helping Gold Roger but for being a fishman the audience might not even notice because they also find fishmen to be threatening. Having the audience examine the prejudice the author intentionally built in them and recontextualizing it later on is much more interesting to me and frankly more effective at possibly making people reflect on real world prejudice than simply saying from the start that Arlong is part of a racist cycle from the very beginning. It is one of the core appeals of One Piece how things very slowly unfold but feel as if they were planned from the beginning. You cheapen it when you reveal certain things early instead of letting them unfold naturally. Plus I think it's better world building. Racism is something the average person considers to be far in the past and the world government controlled media does not report on the prejudice that the other races are experiencing. That said, the change where they make Arlong Park more explicitly a theme park is just a flat improvement on the original story that will make this tie together much better over all.
in regards to the morality question, I think it's jsut trying to highlight that unlike other shonen the protagonist isn't a bastion of goodness and heroism and this story isn't strictly about everyone being 'good'. Like you bring up the axe hand morgan stuff, but when you think about, Luffy didn';t give a fuck about what morgan was doing. He was trying to kill Luffy's new crewmate and upset Koby, so Luffy's gonna punch him in the face. Luffy didn't save the slaves but he didn't act like they deserved it, they just weren't important to him cause he didn't know them. The strawhats aren't exactly friends with duval, but as long as he's not doing anything in front of them they will tolerate him (it helps he quit the slaver trade upon his...transformation), but they don't hate him on a moral level, they just dislike him cause he's a douche and annoying. basically, Luffy and by extension most of his crew aren't so much 'good guys' as they are 'nice' and don't really care about people they haven't met or don't know. Luffy's not gonna punch a bad guy for bullying kids, but he will punch the bad guy if the kids are people he LIKES. THat's the crux of the morality in One Piece, it's honestly really selfish but it works fine c:
I know this is off-topic, but with the morality section of this Q and A. I was wondering if Lindsay had watched or read Berserk, and I am very interested to see a reaction with both of you guys for the 1997 adaptation of Berserk or a manga readalong/review. It is one of my favourite series, and I think Carson is a big fan of it as well, judging by the Dark Horse Editions. Thanks, I would love to hear your thoughts. I think you guys would be the perfect reactors for the series.
While the leader of the island of amazons falling in love with the MC is cliche, i challenge you to name a single island we've been to where the residents didn't love Luffy by the time he left. That's kinda his thing. Boa's love just happens to be romantic, but that ties into her specific trauma.
I think it was her destiny and inevitable as well. First men she encountered were Celestial dragons who were in her own words "figures of horrors". Every men she encountered (even after being free from Celestial dragons) in the story saw her fall for her body and saw her sex thing. Luffy was the first man who did not fall for her physical beauty (She was very surprised when the love-love beam didn't work on Luffy which suggests that Luffy was the first person who did not get attracted to her body.) He was the first man who looked past her body and understood her heart and feelings. Who else will she fall in love with. People see it as typical cliche "most beautiful woman in world falling in love with MC" but for me, it was a perfect match. There could not be anyone else she would love. She loves one man who likes her because of who she is, not because of how hot she is.
Let dissect Hacchi precense important in removing him ... let see for one you access to intro to Silver Ray, but then again hachi could be introduce before reaching saboti in a rescue format. Only thing i could think of is making Nami face her drama again the extra would be that hachi being part of aarlong crew which would intensify facing Nami
about hachi: I actually think that hachi was in the live acion, but he wasn't obvious an octopos, I truly believe that the fishman Nami was playing poker with in the live action was hachi.
Fingers crossed the live action won't end before the Going Merry's death. They built her, so they had better make me cry about her, too. Delusional me, who lives in a cotton candy castle, is holding out for Hachi getting replaced by Kuroobi because it ultimately doesn't matter which one of Arlong's lackeys plays that role in the narrative. Kuroobi would also be far easier on the CGI budget, than all of Hachi's extra arms. But that's a cotton candy dream for the 2030s lmao.
Like and comment because I will always support the one piece podcast. I love the discussion and curious to know when’s the next podcast. If you guys been sent an episode for the podcast ??
55:00 It’s so cool that you mentioned how the crew were always moving WEST. I kind of knew that but just realized why(probably). Oda used some elements of the novel _The Journey to The West_ which was one of the so called “four greatest novels in Chinese history.” So it’s Journey to the “WEST” 🤣🤣 This could be why but I’m not 100% sure. Other example of Oda referring to this novel is why Luffy’s name being “Monkey” because the MC of this novel is a terrifying strong monkey. Also known to have seemingly infinite vitality and energy. (Tis the same monkey that appeared in the game Black Myth last year)
They’re actually always moving east as a matter of fact I THOUGHT they were moving west, for the reasons you said and a bunch of other ones but, confusingly, they are moving east
The world government making Jinbe (a Fishman) a warlord is talked about by Johnny after Baratie before we even see Arlong. The fishmen's relationship with world gov and the politics of the governing force behind the marines and warlords are being set up from early on but it's not in focus because it's not luffy's focus. The further you get into the story the more clear it gets that the major beats of the story were structured before it started. Also you guys are missing a bunch of connective stuff without the cover stories, because the anime doesn't adapt them. Hope the remake doesn't omit them.
I was so hoping for a 4h installment for the end of this saga ... not ... so good that you did this!!! and yes, we really need a decent map of the world of OP, even if it is without any labels/names... one aspect you don't seem to be aware of yet is that the grandline (and redline for that matter) is at an angle to the "equator" (about 45° afaik) so the Strawhats move south-east ish through the grandline
CARLSON is right, we are moving from West to East. Also, the 1st half of the grandline (A.K.A. Paradise) is between the East Blue and North Blue and with this logic the 2nd half (A.K.A. New World) would be between West and South Blue.
1:37 have faint in the crew the one piece live action will probably continue until the one piece ends so it'll probably have 20 season at the end or something
Oda has stated over and over again that the One Piece will be an actual thing. Cause Oda actually watch this show i don't know what it is but he said that the ending piss him off. He didn't like the ending of this show he watch because it was revealed that friendship is the treasure Oda says that Luffy deserve an actual treasure when he gets the One Piece. Whatever it is, even if it's a simple treasure thing, Luffy deserve something. It could be anything BUT of course, it's not gonna be money treasure that is for sure like we always think about with a pirate shonen That's what Oda stated, he basically confirm it. One piece is gonna be an actual treasure
Quick help: Being what oda (say so) has wanted to do with the story since the beggining. The sun pirates were ALWAYS a thing. Now, were they always fishmen? > we dont know.
I'm Surprise you didn't Question What other Roger's Pirates members have done since Learning "The Truth about the World" & The Death of Roger 24 years ago?
Idk if anyone thinks the one piece is just a bunch if treasure lol people shut down the idea that it's not a physical thing cause oda has always said it's not "the friends you made along the way or whatever 😂
Thanks for checking out the podcast! Things are about to get CRAZY, we can tell!
Also just want to apologize for the short delay in videos the past couple days. The delay was because it took me extra time to edit the podcast, but even when I finished editing it (at 5am 2 days ago), I accidentally scheduled it for the 7th instead of the 6th 🤦♂
And we slept in that day so we couldn't just post it in the middle of the day or it would ruin the video's potential.
Good luck with that!!
@@BOLDcastOnePiece your content is always worth the wait. Love you guys!!

Yes. That’s why this channel is one of the worst.
@cypressxsg4815 definitely not the worst. I've seen much worse who just reacts to make a few dollars. But these guys defo try theorizing. Its just that he doesn't give Goda enough credit.
@@SirCrocodial I think it's a bait... This is one of the best React channels. (Even though he definitely doesn't give Oda enough credit rsss)

Kokoro’s not half-mermaid half-human, she already explained (you just forgot) that every mermaid once they’re 30 yo their tailfin splits in two so they could live on land.
Prolly just confused it with the fact, many were bringing up, that Chimney is part-Mermaid
What? That's not how mermaids works. Oda, your stories are unrealistic! >:(

21:00 for clarity, Arlong pirates had two markings on them, not one, the Arlong tattoo and the Sun brand.
One Piece will always have lots of comedy, that's what Oda likes in his story. Sabaody is just the first time where he actually committed to telling a more darker side of the world which is pretty cool.
Peak comedy
yeha i wouldn't say he falls onto comedy as a crutch or just because he got bored or couldn';t think of anything, he jsut does the comedy cause that's what he finds fun in the story c:
Hell, even DBZ had comedy

i mean he's not wrong
he's passionate and does what he beleives is right in the moment c:

W dude
I hope they can do a video on SBS
23:53 thats what makes the the series so rewatchable. Every few hundred episodes gives all new meaning and realizations to the previous. I enjoy the story more each time
Oda had it all planned. One thing you didn't notice is that Arlong's base is unusually called Arlong Park and looks like a circus/theme park in the middle of the sea. Very unusual for a pirate. Why? Is it just his quirk? You won't be able to tell. Until you learn from hachi that every young fishman and mermaid's frustration as they grow up is that they cannot enter the famous Sabaody Theme Park..they can only watch it's lights and sounds from a safe distance, wishing they are like humans who can freely get inside
from the start arlong was just trying to emulate the humans he hated all along
Oda has confirmed that the One Piece is something physical (doesn't have to be money/treasure), so not just the friends we made along the way, the enjoyment of the adventure or something like that.
right
its also because as a kid a show he liked ended with the reveal that the treasure at the core of the plot was something along those lines, and Oda was Like "fuck you I want my gold" and so decided the One Piece wouldn't be that XP
the morality of characters has way more layers than its given credit here. its clear from episode 1 that luffy isnt a typical good guy that helps anyone in need.
Same in Skypea, same in Water 7, same Thriller Bark
and thats just luffy, othet strawhats have other moral codes that differ from Luffy
Like name one other classic shonen MC who would walk into a slavehouse looking for a friend and would not even bat an eye about all the slaves there & walk out again unbothered...
Luffy does not give an f about anybody at all unless he fw them, and if he does, he does not care about hurting 10 random innocent ppl just to help 1 of his friend
Just because this moral greyness isn't explicitly discussed in the narrative, that does not mean it's not there
@@NmplolFriends 100% agreed. and thats just luffy, then theres characters like sanji who will feed absolutely anyone in need which is almost the complete opposite to luffy. th4e morality of the characters has a lot of discussion worthy material than whats talked ab here
@@NmplolFriends by morals HxH close.
Luffy's morality is "if you're my friend, I will do anything to help you be happy, if you're not my friend at best i won't care about you and at worst i will punjch you in the face"
fortunately Luffy's definition of friend is so loose and he's otherwise quite agreeable and friendlky enough that even simply being able to give him nice food is enough for him to decide you're his friend.
He passed the stick to the next generation.
when does a man die? only when he is forgotten, with him introducing the GREAT PIRATE ERA, his name and will will continue to be remembered for ERAS to come
@@TooMuchCarbs
One other foreshadowing for kukoro is that she understood what Yokozuna was saying .
46:52 Consequences as in the response to harming a celestial dragon is always the very disproportionate “send an admiral”
1:07:25 Roger was executed 22 years ago, Luffy is 17.
Ye
i think the racial thing was also in the anime and manga, it was just more obvious in the live action because they dont know how far they will go.

Antagonists getting taller?!?! Man Carson is absolutely cooking
I'm not much of a reaction watcher, but yours caught my attention because you have some really good ideas and opinions about the series you react to. In fact, I'm watching your review of the episode more than the reaction itself. So this podcast episode looks promising!
Thanks so much!
What are we thinking right now?
Another review after Impel Down?

(I still cry every time watching 312) *pain*
And another thing to point out.
That plus he isn't even really the same character.
on the other hand I personally think its actually pretty genius to have Garp attending the execution, knowing what we know about him later
You could argue that they should have left the warlord stuff for alabasta but again, they don't have as much time as the anime does so a little foreshadowing is good.
in the manga nami originally has a scar from the tattoo removal iirc
of course there were consequences, they were clearly struggling with a pacifista, so when kizaru and the other one in red, showed up, they were clearly in despair. If the Straw Hats managed to get out of it it was only thanks to Kuma, without him it would have been over. they suffered a horrible defeat against an admiral, and it would not have been the first.
For the thousandth time, the one piece is not something like "the friends we made along the way", not only oda has confirmed it by his own mouth, but also, stuff happens that i am not gonna spoil, but makes very clear that the one piece is something physical and that is actually important, i dont think is gold and treasure, but something else
I know you want to feel like everyone who watches is just dumb and gullible and doesnt think deeply about stuff like you do, but most of the one piece community is made of people who overanalyze anything, we are know for going a bit to far with theories and making meaning of stuff that maybe was not intended, there is hours and hours of video essays about various topics in one piece and what different stuff means, and how stuff connects to the real world or myths, if most people who watched a lot more of the series than you are telling you they know one piece is something real and not an ideia, that is because we know it
You both are smart people tho, so i think as you see as things unfold, you will understand how we are so sure, but either way, great video

41:24 I HATE this from the live action. Luffy would actually NEVER say "Im a different kind of pirate" like hes Mickey Mouse incarnated
Dont get me wrong, one piece IS ABOUT good pirates, but theres a reason why Luffy never says it, because claiming it defeats the purpose of them being good pirates in the first place, they are not claiming righteousness, they do the righteousness without expecting praise for it, wich makes them truly righteous
I was very dissapointed in the live action in that dialogue, and some others
Luffy saying hes a different kind of pirate is cringe

2- Has an ugly, barbaric, grotesque appearance with 'manly' features
3- Destroys Chopper's home
4- Beats the protagonist's brother and gets him captured (to later be executed)

Luffy’s morality was the only issue I had with the live action. He is quite a gray character in the anime but the live action really tried to paint that Disney- esque image on our boy Luffy. “I’m a different kind of pirate” and Shanks saying “Be good” were really pushing them into the traditional heroic image. I really want Luffy to say something like “Friend or Enemy? You decide for yourself” in the live action so bad!
Yeah this saga shows u as well
Many of the Arlong pirates had Arlong's tattoo too. They had both.
Yup. (Some might not have originally been Sun Pirates but they definitely all had the Arlong Pirates mark.)
Regarding the tattoo. Yes,it’s crazy right? I still remember how you guys talk about it in arlong park arc and now we can see how important and impactful tattoo is in the one piece world
Exactly that’s what I’m saying
It’s just nice finding a case of CLEAR planning with little room for retconning. Obviously if you’re further into the series and look at Oda interviews, there are more examples of such. But as a first time watcher, it’s fun to see something that, without outside influence or confirmation, is without a doubt a planned thing. It’s not the first but it’s a really really good example
Dude as manga reader recently we started to notice a lot of thematic stuff from thriller back been foreshadowing for was going on right now.
Fr
It’s not headcannon it’s just my opinion
Why does it become ‘Carson’s crazy headcannon’ when it’s just a theory people don’t like?

We just fell behind
But you’re right we should make time before we get too far away from it
And we still want to watch good filler.
One of the common misconception is that the grand line moves along the equator which is wrong it goes diagonally from northwest to south east kind of the north pole is not on the red line it is in the north blue the grandline and red line make an x on the globe not a cross
The show doesn't talk abt it

Yeah
Crew was about to be defeated, got separated, send all over the world and it’s nothing?
Peakcast's back!!!❤
to summarize Carson’s rant: he is blown away
oda said he hates the treasure being the journey he said the op is a physical object
Great discussion. Really loved the morality section in particular.
Another takeaway from the talk with Rayleigh is him saying "we were too soon" and "If it told you about it... there is nothing you can do".
Yay my question was picked
Blue chicken 😂 it's Blue Pheasant. *Edit* Ah, you corrected it, lol.
21:00 All of Arlong Pirates and Arlong himself has 2 tattoos. A Sun and his own Arlong Mark. Check it again.
18:58 yeah, she did get it removed. Lindsey jokes about her saying she skinned it, but she kinda did. She stabbed her tatto repeatedly.
Nah Kuroobi is diff
Hachi is the only one
Hatchi is present in the LA, he is the guy who play cards with nami, look at the credits at the end of the episodes
1:05 I would be shocked if the live action even reached water 7.
Arlong didn't give anyone the sun brand, that was Fisher Tiger, the ones in Arlongs crew who had the sun brand used to be part of Fisher Tigers crew.
That’s not what I was trying to say
@@BOLDcastOnePiece Fair, no problem. Just sounded like that.
Like and comment because I will always support the one piece podcast. I love the discussion and curious to know when’s the next podcast. If you guys been sent an episode for the podcast ??
After this saga
55:00 It’s so cool that you mentioned how the crew were always moving WEST. I kind of knew that but just realized why(probably).
Oda used some elements of the novel _The Journey to The West_ which was one of the so called “four greatest novels in Chinese history.” So it’s Journey to the “WEST” 🤣🤣
This could be why but I’m not 100% sure.
Other example of Oda referring to this novel is why Luffy’s name being “Monkey” because the MC of this novel is a terrifying strong monkey. Also known to have seemingly infinite vitality and energy.
(Tis the same monkey that appeared in the game Black Myth last year)
Ofc
They’re actually always moving east as a matter of fact
I THOUGHT they were moving west, for the reasons you said and a bunch of other ones but, confusingly, they are moving east
@ Wow that's fascinating!
Zoro is filler
Paradise is actually between East and South; the Red Line is between the East and North
@@LevTheLurker ok! West and North*
1:37 have faint in the crew the one piece live action will probably continue until the one piece ends so it'll probably have 20 season at the end or something
Can’t wait for you guys to see Kim’s backstory
Thriller bark is a ship that has an island, it's moving
Regarding morality
There is a difference between doing bad things and being evil
We should also look at the intention
Oda has stated over and over again that the One Piece will be an actual thing. Cause Oda actually watch this show i don't know what it is but he said that the ending piss him off. He didn't like the ending of this show he watch because it was revealed that friendship is the treasure
Oda says that Luffy deserve an actual treasure when he gets the One Piece. Whatever it is, even if it's a simple treasure thing, Luffy deserve something. It could be anything BUT of course, it's not gonna be money treasure that is for sure like we always think about with a pirate shonen
That's what Oda stated, he basically confirm it. One piece is gonna be an actual treasure
Hacchi was simply not added because of the lack of budget not because the writers didn't know ehat they were doing
Quick help:
Being what oda (say so) has wanted to do with the story since the beggining. The sun pirates were ALWAYS a thing. Now, were they always fishmen? > we dont know.
I'm Surprise you didn't Question What other Roger's Pirates members have done since Learning "The Truth about the World" & The Death of Roger 24 years ago?
Idk if anyone thinks the one piece is just a bunch if treasure lol people shut down the idea that it's not a physical thing cause oda has always said it's not "the friends you made along the way or whatever 😂
what not that far? they already finish recoding season2 and started recording season 3 I do believe there gonna get there.
2 years per season
