    Depend on me
And I will let you down
    Repeatedly
You'd think you'd have learned by now
    In your hour of need
    I'm nowhere to be found
    And while you bleed
    I'm indifferent
God is a strangely absent father
    His back is turned perpetually
All the orphaned sons and daughters
    Abide in their suffering
    Cry out to me
    And I won't hear a thing
    My door is closed
    And I'm not listening
    When troubles come
    You'll be on your own
    Divided from
    Some saintly guidance
God is a strangely absent father
    His back is turned perpetually
All the orphaned sons and daughters
    Abide in their suffering

    Your Kingdom is

    Reap your reward
    Before its too late

Why do all these comments end up in an argument, cant we just enjoy a beautiful song from an awesome artist and leave it with a sense of ambiguity, true beauty is lost when the harsh light of reality falls on to it.

I've been thinking about the song, songs are usually like stories, within which the singer plays a role, like an actor, many hearbreak songs are sung by people in happy relationships, playing a role of someone heartbroken.
I think the character in this song is a believer who is upset with god's perceived absence, and is assessing how god is seeing this situation.
    Kind of like "dear god".

The first song I heard by Tom was The Last Mistake; it was and is amazing.
I'm now happy to see that Tom agrees with me ideologically as well.
Amazing music, I wish I possessed half the talent you did.

the first step epistemologically is to make the three basic provisional assumptions:
    1. That you exist.
    2. That reality exists in a consistent nature, and it can be learned about.
    3. That you have intrinsic means of experiencing reality, which are sometimes accurate, but not always.

The ideal method to judge the truth value of anything is to put it on a continuum of probability between 100% likelihood of being true, and 100% likelihood of being false, first you put the concept in the middle, where it has an equal likelihood of being true or being false, and use supporting evidence and logic to move it towards either direction.

  • @windsofabbadon
    @windsofabbadon 12 років тому

I am of the opinion that one has to work with God even as an equal, rather than be a dependent. If I was God(and we are) I wouldn't have much respect for those who are dependent on me as much as those who work in tandem with me.

  • @Paradoxical003
    @Paradoxical003 12 років тому

Objectively, everything is either absolutely true or false.
However, we cannot know for certain which option is correct for any cases.
Therefore, we can only assess the probability of either option being correct in every case. The way we calculate the probability of which option is correct, should be solely through the experience of evidence, since evidence is the sole valid justification for all beliefs. All the believers in the bible got it (physical miracles and manifestations), why cant we?

There are 2 versions of the story of Job, 1 is the familiar one where god makes a deal with satan.
the other is where a member of gods council convinces god that his followers faith needs to be tested.
sometimes Satan is an enemy of god, sometimes he is Gods servant.

Shit I hate having to remove punctuation, however, I do enjoy how YT automatically wraps my text so that it's readable.

Not trying to start a religious war or debate but god does not exist. I may follow Asatru and it's principals but I still believe that any form of Deity or god is what you are and what you can do. Do not put your dependence on anything else or anyone else but yourself and your own.

I notice your comments are always getting exactly two thumb-ups, and then are being ignored, why is that?
I don't think humans are that bad, you don't either, I can tell, you wouldn't be able to function the way you have otherwise.
Humans aren't all bastards, in fact, we aren't all anything, our unique nature among our planet's life is our individuality, most animals behaviors could be described with universals, but we are very different not only in different locations, but in different times.

if your holy books have been so corrupted, and we are unable to tell what is or isn't corrupt, AND we have no ability to make independent judgements of the issues.
If all this is true, then we are unable to know anything.
let's say you think a passage is uncorrupted b/c it seems moral, how could you know that? with your own unreliable independent sense of morality? with the rest of the corrupted book?
if your sense of morality is reliable, then why the need for the corrupted book?

God makes sanity though, his bible defines what is right and wrong... then he shows how you can defy his rules by breaking them himself... also i dont get what he did with Job... God let The Devil ruin one of gods most devoted worshippers life in anyway The Devil can... as a test? a sign of something?... God had to Prove to a rouge angel he lets live and actually do good by punishing the bad in hell... he proves to lucifer what exactly?... i could be wrong, its been a while since i read that bit

    Day 3:
"My" holy books?! As I already said: I don't go by those books.
I agree: we know nada, only can have faith (google "NASA scientist Parsons: 'objectively we know nothing' ". Now you're getting deep into epistemology, Plato's 2nd vs 3rd Academy, etc. ;) ).
But us "knowing nothing" isn't DUE TO books being corrupted; use your head, not the books!! (obvs u arent "using" head's full potential: google Einstein's "Reading after a certain age..."; even HE says don't rely 100% on BOOKS... (cont'd)

  • @EVERYVERSER

The whole "free will" counterargument to the problem of evil is kinda stupid, since all human crimes come from flaws in god's created world.
Murder, Theft, etc. is all due to the needs of the actor requiring them to act immorally, wars are fought mainly over land and resources, because there isn't enough of either for all of us.
As for lust, if that is so evil, then why do we have such urges? god made us, and thus made our minds, to give us instincts and then punish us for them is evil.

  • @Paradoxical003
    @Paradoxical003 12 років тому

Your default beliefs of any concept which you have no evidence for should be the intellectually honest default: Initial disbelief, pending supporting evidence, while investigating to find supporting evidence for it, and entertaining the possibility of it being true.
I call this approach "honest curiousity".

So we should ignore the ideological statement of a song likely intended as an ideological statement?
If it gets the unpleasantness that comes with ideological discourse (on the internet, no less) than I guess it's a good idea.
Believe me, if the song was about how carrots were tasty, the comments would likely still get nasty.
Sturgeon's law applies to internet activity, I'm sure most of what I say is shit, it's the 1 to 10 percent of the quality stuff I put out that justifies my comments.

Some ppl just don't get your logical conclusion. ;) Can't see that ppl have autonomy & their own judgment, and w/that ability comes responsibility...&HARD work.
They want everything handed to em instead (Cure cancer for us!) & can't accept deities aside from "God" could make cancer etc; it's "I'M the victim, God, u abused meeeeee! Me me me" LOL:
Failing to think about how they might've "abused" God first...or how humans abused God's sentient beasts since forever(rather than only offending "God")

Why are you so intent on blaming yourself for all that is wrong in the world in order to absolve god from any responsibilities whatsoever?
As for my "abuse" if he was indeed hurt by what I've been saying, then why hasn't he done anything yet? he doesn't care what I think of him he'd rather be lazy then earn my love
Also, my "abuse" doesn't justify the suffering God is causing to the entire world, I make snarky comments on the internet God watches children starve to death who is the abuser here?

  • @Paradoxical003

That wasn't nice, his loved one is suffering and dying from cancer, it doesn't matter if his healing technique works or not, coldly insulting his situation like that is inhuman.

    PART 2:
    ...let alone those 3000yr-old books.
"How I function" means I have high regard for humans? LOL, you know nothing about me. I'm already a mass-killer who got amnesty after a Latina civil war--so you make a TON of WRONG ASSumptions to say I love humans, but "God" MUST hate em: I have higher regard for bonobos & rabbits than most humans; they're stupid in different ways from ppl yes--but the objective bioengineer in me says many species are less EVIL than humans.
    As CXS Rogue says:

Nothing worse than being involved with the atheist/skeptic communities, saying a well-thought-out opinion, and being labelled "not atheistic/skeptical enough", circle-jerking sucks, even among the best of people, there's a reason 4chan considers it the cancer that killed their site.
This "atheism +" shit is more circle-jerking groupthink, ideological orthodoxy, funny, the movement wants to make us look better by killing our individuality.

It's often said that doubters, those who demand observational evidence for claims, those who refuse to assume needlessly, are closed minded, but let's look at some basic pseudo-logic.
A believer can only represent one concept, that which (s)he believes, it is in the nature of belief to exclude other possibilities, you cannot believe a friend is both a bachelor, and single.
As for the doubter, they represent every other, non-specific possibility, so from definitions: it's always one v. infinity.

These atrocities are agonizing for us, in essence god is torturing us, if things are as you describe, then it is us who are pure, and god who is corrupt, that is, by our standards, which are sane.
What kind of maniac loves their torturer no matter what and considers complaints about it to be evil? That is what theodicies are, either through shifting the blame to the victims (us), or proposing that god is crazier then we can imagine, they tell us it is good and sane to love your abuser.
