I've been thinking about the song, songs are usually like stories, within which the singer plays a role, like an actor, many hearbreak songs are sung by people in happy relationships, playing a role of someone heartbroken. I think the character in this song is a believer who is upset with god's perceived absence, and is assessing how god is seeing this situation. Kind of like "dear god".
