Totally agree about the strap mounting method. The smallrig baseplate has a slot at the bottom that works for this, and it's so nice. Vertical strap all the way.
I didn’t realize that! Still waiting for my Smallrig baseplate to come in. Been on back order for a couple weeks
@@DylanBlackburn really! I pre-ordered mine with the camera (absolutely need arca swiss) so I got it looks two weeks before the cam lol
Great video as always Dylan! Thanks for inspiring us 😊
Thanks for watching!
In my opinion, all Sony cameras are very compact. When I was in London this year with just my a7IV and the 35mm 1.4 GM and I saw a lot of people with an old DSLR camera and zoom lens, you could see a very clear difference, everything fits in a small shoulder bag.
Agreed! Picking up a DSLR now feels quite weird.
I actually bought the 24mm because of your channel a couple of months back haha. Great video!
Love that man! Thanks for watching!
Love it !
Good!!
@@DylanBlackburn 🤪
I feel the same… I’ve got the 24, 35, 45, and 75 rokinons. I prefer to carry a few of those around rather than a zoom.
Just curious why?
Thoughts on a 90mm prime to fill in your kit? I'm looking a the Sigma 90mm f/2.8 DG DN. 85mm. It's a focal length i enjoy shooting....mostly for street here in chicago. I like the compression you get.
I like the 24 and 50 also. I’m thinking of adding the sigma 90mm 2.8. It tiny not much bigger than the 50. I think it would make a great addition to the 24 and 50.
That Sigma 90mm is pretty incredible! With 24,50, & 90 you have everything covered!
I have the 24mm, f1.4, GM; the 50mm, f2.5, G; and the Sigma 90mm, f2.8, DN, contemporary. Love it. I bought it for all the reason you described: size for. Factor, razor sharp images, clicky aperture ring, zippy auto focus, and value at the price. I previously had the Sony 90mm, f2.8, G, macro lens and it was a spectacularly sharp lens with no distortion whatsoever ever. The macro capability was also something to behold! But…it was expensive at $1000, the auto focus was a little slow to acquire subjects, the images were very contrasty which I had to be careful of in low light, and my biggest gripe was it was much bigger and heavier than any lens I was accustomed to shooting with. The size and weight really made me think twice about using it and I left it at home many times. I didn’t think it was the best use of my $1000 seeing that I had to really build myself up to using it many times. I ultimately returned the Sony, 90mm, f2.8, G, macro for the smaller and lighter Sigma, 90mm, f2.8, DN, contemporary which I am overall much happier with. I knew I’d be giving up the macro capability, and the sigma 90 mm does come with some pin cushion distortion that I don’t like, but it is correctable with the in camera distortion compensation features. It fits in my bag with my other 2 lenses and is available for me to use. Its nice having 90mm in such a small form factor and is fun to shoot with.
Is there any chance you'd review the 35mm 2.5 vs the 35mm 1.8? I initially followed your recommendation for the 35mm 1.8 but the 2.5 felt way handier for travel. I wonder what your thoughts are as someone who values your feedback based on your previous videos!
Thanks sir!
Assuming you mean the 40mm 2.5, I’ve received a lot of comments about it on this video alone and I’ve haven’t shot with it yet. Maybe it’s a sign I need to pick it up so I can make a comparison video!
I have both the 35 1.8 and the 40 2.5.
The 35 1.8 is still very small and very easy to travel with. The 40G is smaller but not by a lot.
IMO, the reason to use the 40G over the 35 1.8 would be the better image quality. If I don't need the extra Bokeh or lowlight performance then I'll throw the 40G on.
How are you attaching the PD connector to the bottom of your camera with the Sony grip on there?
With this! Came with the PD wrist strap I got a longgg time ago. Finally came in handy!

@@DylanBlackburn Ah, ok. I'm using the same thing. I was hoping you had figured a way to do it without adding a bump to the flat bottom. I have the small rig grip too, and it has an accommodation to attach the connector without affecting the flat bottom. Oh well. It's all about trade offs, isn't it?
4:03 when I heard 28 1.8 i thought you showed us an unreleased 28mm by sony. I was like, NO WAAYYYY. Turns out it was the 20 lol
In our dreams hahaha
How come you are not using a lens hood with your 35mm F1.8?
Just to keep the profile smaller. The lens by itself is about the same size as the other lenses with the lens hoods. I keep the lens hood for the 35mm in my bag... sometimes
Have you ever compared 35mm f1.8 with 40mm f2.5?
Haven’t tried the 40mm before! Lots of people keep on asking about it and I’ve been curious myself… future video idea?
@@DylanBlackburn great idea. 40mm has similar price with 35mm f1.8 but much smaller form factor. I wonder if it is worth it.
if you don’t have the 35f1.8, will you consider the 40f2.5 instead? (i’m confused to get the 35f1.8 or the compact 40f2.5)
I’ve been considering picking up the 40mm 2.5! Just hard to justify ATM since it’s similar to the 35mm in terms of focal length. If you don’t care about f/1.8 then I would say go for the 40mm
@@DylanBlackburn that’s the point i’m confused myself, should i go for f1.8 or f2.5 is good enough 🤣🤣🤣
